The confrontation over Cuba continues. Michael Moore has challenged Fred Thompson to a health care debate. At issue — Moore’s trip to Cuba and Thompson’s criticism of that trip. Moore noted Thompson’s evident favor for Cuban cigars as a possible violation of the trade embargo. Now, Thompson responds. Cigar in hand.

Fred swivels around in a big leather chair, smoking a big cigar, and looking at papers with spectacles perched on his nose. The caption comes up: “Senator Fred Thompson.” He looks up from his papers, looks into the camera and starts to speak:
“You know, I’ve been looking at my schedule, Michael, and I don’t think I have time for you. But I may be the least of your problems.”
“The next time you’re down in Cuba visiting your buddy Castro, you might ask him about another documentary filmmaker — his name is Nicholas Gean (spelling?). He did something Castro didn’t like, and they put him in a mental institution for several years, giving him devastating electroshock treatments.”
-Pause-
“A mental institution, Michael. Might be something you oughta think about.”
Fred picks up his papers and swivels his chair away from the camera as it fades out.

This is absolutely fabulous! Game, set, and match! The derision in Fred’s voice and the superior mocking tone he conveys. It’s basically a “you’re effing with a far better man than you, fat boy” message.

US does not Deserve Hosting UN
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- A prominent Iranian lawmaker stressed that the Untied States is not a proper host for the United Nations Organization and called on all member states to demand a transfer of the UN headquarters from New York.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an open session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly here on Sunday, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaoddin Boroujerdi said:

“As the articles of association of the UN state that the United Nations’ permanent headquarters is located in New York, transfer of the headquarters requires rectification of the said articles of association.”

Considering that the UN is in charge of grave affairs, any transfer of the headquarters should be carried out through a consensus of the member states and rectification of the articles of association, he said.
The legislator said that the plan for the transfer of the UN permanent headquarters from the US should be viewed as a political position taken (by Iran) against the measures adopted by the White House leaders.

“The US has proved that it does not deserve to host the United Nations member states,” he underlined.

I agree- we don’t “deserve” the UN., or even saying it the other way works just as well….The UN does not deserve the U.S.! How about putting it in downtown Tehran!!!!!

5 U.S. Soldiers Dead, 3 Missing After Attack in Iraq’s ‘Triangle of Death’

BAGHDAD — U.S. and Iraqi troops searched house-to-house and combed fields with their bare hands Saturday after American troops and their Iraqi interpreter came under attack in the notorious “triangle of death” south of Baghdad, leaving five dead and three missing.
The military said the patrol was struck in a pre-dawn explosion near Mahmoudiya, about 20 miles south of Baghdad — an Al Qaeda area where two U.S. soldiers were found massacred after disappearing at a checkpoint nearly a year ago.
An emergency response unit arrived at the scene and found five members of the team dead and three others missing.

BAGHDAD – Thousands of U.S. soldiers searched Sunday for three Americans who were missing after their patrol came under attack in an explosion that killed four of their comrades and an Iraqi army translator.
The Islamic State in Iraq, an al-Qaida front group, said it had captured several soldiers in the attack, but offered no proof to back up its claim, posted on an Islamic Web site.
On Sunday, U.S. spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell confirmed that the Iraqi interpreter was among the dead _ and that all the missing were Americans. He said about 4,000 U.S. troops were involved in the search.

“Everybody is fully engaged, the commanders are intimately focused on this, every asset we have from national assets to tactical assets … are being used … to locate these three missing soldiers,” Caldwell said

Iraqi Terror Group Warns U.S. to Stop Search for Missing GIs
BAGHDAD — An Al Qaeda front group that claims it has captured American soldiers warned the United States on Monday to stop searching for them.
The U.S. military also said for the first time it believes the three missing soldiers were abducted by Al Qaeda-linked militants after an attack that included three roadside bombs.

“What you are doing in searching for your soldiers will lead to nothing but exhaustion and headaches. Your soldiers are in our hands. If you want their safety, do not look for them,” the Islamic State of Iraq said on a militant Web site.

Teen Hurt Whacking Bullets With Hammer
LAKE LUZERNE, N.Y.

A teenager who put bullets in a vise and whacked them with a hammer to empty the brass shell casings was wounded in the abdomen by approximately the 100th bullet he hit, according to Warren County deputies.
Damion M. Mosher, 18, had been discharging .223-caliber rounds, placing them in a steel vise, putting a screwdriver on the primer, and striking the screwdriver with the hammer, deputies said.
Deputies were called to his home in Lake Luzerne shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday when one bullet went about a half-inch into his abdomen. He was treated at Glens Falls Hospital and was released. No charges were filed.
Mosher told authorities he was trying to empty the rounds to collect the brass casings for scrap.
Sheriff Larry Cleveland said about 100 other rounds that Mosher hit had “fizzled,” but one was somehow sent with more force. It was unclear if the bullet ricocheted or hit him directly.
An employee of Capitol Scrap Co. in Albany said Monday the business pays $1.70 a pound for scrap brass shell casings.
Cleveland said Mosher’s shells amounted to just a few pounds.
Lake Luzerne, at the southeastern edge of the Adirondacks, is 45 miles north of Albany.

‘Fort Dix Six’ Father: My Pizzeria Is Ruined Since Son’s Arrest

COOKSTOWN, N.J. — The father of one of the six men described as radical Islamists and charged with plotting to massacre soldiers at Fort Dix says the business he’s nurtured for years is all but ruined since his son’s arrest.
Muslim Tatar, who has owned Super Mario’s Pizza for five years, says that his lunchtime crowd from nearby McGuire Air Force Base and Fort Dix has largely disappeared, replaced by empty tables and nasty words from passing motorists.

“Now I am a target,” the 52-year-old Tatar told The New York Times for Saturday newspapers, adding that his business is “99 percent dead.”

Tatar’s son, 23-year-old Serdar Tatar, was arrested Monday along with five others.
Since authorities announced the arrests on Tuesday, Tatar’s father has had a cook and two waitresses quit out of fear they would be targeted, said Warren Cline, another cook at the pizzeria.

“Normally we’d be almost full. People liked this place, and Tatar is a very friendly owner,” Cline told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Saturday’s newspapers. “But people drive by, they give us the finger.”

Cline said delivery business is also hurting since the restaurant can no longer bring food to Fort Dix, about three miles away, or McGuire.
Federal authorities say there is no evidence that the elder Tatar knew of his son’s plot, and Muslim Tatar said their relationship had waned in recent years, as his son had fallen in with what he described as a bad crowd.
Muslim Tatar came to Cherry Hill from Turkey in 1992, working his way up from a dishwasher and saving enough to buy Super Mario’s five years ago. A few years ago, Tatar says his son, who went to high school with several of his alleged coconspirators, fell in with the wrong people and soon moved to Philadelphia.

“I have no idea of this problem,” Tatar said of his son’s role in the alleged plot. “I’m shocked. I’m very shocked.”

After receiving death threats, Tatar decided he had to take some sort of action to protect his business. Outside the restaurant, he hung a sign reading: “Under New Management.”

Good grief, I am so sick of people like this. Who can blame the soldiers and their families for not wanting to eat there! If his business is in the toilet because his son is a terrorist, I don’t have any sympathies.

There is specific doctrine in the Koran that calls for lying to deceive “non-believers” in order to continue the Jihad. I don’t believe a thing this guy says. You know when your Son has gone crazy from religion. He chose not to do anything or try to stop it.
Loyalty is first and foremost to Islam, not to any Western host country whose shores these barbarians decide to darken. Islam is inassimilable and incompatible with the United States, period!

During fighting, Taliban radio would often report his presence on the front lines even when he was days away from the fighting, to unnerve the opposition fighters.
His terror ways remained as vicious as it was during the Taliban’s heydays. He showed no mercy to people suspected of spying for the US coalition forces.

“While coming back from Orlando after gathering with some friends for a few days, I was stuck in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. I saw what looks like a Army soldier.
Later I saw two more. After my gate was switched, I saw around 20, give or take, soldiers coming out of the gate. It felt like that Budweiser commercial honoring the troops. When I was on the flight going home,
I notice the two soldiers were in the same plane. I got to the lobby of the airport and saw balloons and cameras waiting. I knew it was for the two soldiers. I wanted to catch the couple hugging and kissing each other but the guy in yellow blocked my way. It was very moving and I’m glad I witnessed this. “

Edwards offers students anti-war advice
HENNIKER, N.H.
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards appealed to college graduates Saturday to join him in demanding an end to the war in Iraq.

“Congress’ real power to end this war is to use its funding power. But while that’s Congress’ only real power, it is not the only power in America,” Edwards said in a commencement speech at New England College. “The irresistible power of America lies in your hands, in the hands of the American people.”

Also Saturday, Edwards launched a Web site — http://www.supportthetroopsendthewar.com — that outlines his plan to end the unpopular, 4-year-old war.

“Each of us has a responsibility as an American, as a duty to our troops and to each other, to do every single thing we can to support those troops and end this war,” Edwards said.

He said young people helped to bring about civil rights, end the Vietnam war and promote anti-Apartheid causes.

“Today, we are at that place again. It is time for you — all of you — to take responsibility for your country, for your government, for your community,” Edwards said. “Help our nation break its silence, speak out.”

He said anything less is a failure.

“Silence is a betrayal,” Edwards said, borrowing from the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous anti-Vietnam sermon.

John Edwards also called on his supporters to turn this year’s Memorial Day into a day of antiwar activism, saying that the best way to honor the troops is to demand an end to the Iraq war.
Edwards, his party’s vice presidential nominee in 2004, was visiting the first-in-the-nation primary state this weekend seeking support for his second run. Trailing Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama in most polls, he has been criticizing them for not doing enough to end the war.

If you go to the website he advocates “showing your patriotism” by sending care packages and cards to the troops while undermining them politically. He then gives links to anysoldier.com and opgratitude.com, among others for folks to do so.
I’m sure these fine organizations want to have nothing to do with this. These are good people who have supported the troops from the beginning and to now have their names associated with his anti-war message.
