A memorial to North County service members who died in the Vietnam War was dedicated Saturday at Maffucci Field in Carlsbad, across from the Army and Navy Academy.
The brainchild of Jack Frazier, a world history teacher at Carlsbad High School since 1989, the dedication marked the end of a personal journey that lasted five years.
Frazier said his inspiration for the project came in 2003, when he attended a conference in Washington D.C., sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund to help educators teach about Vietnam in the classroom. Frazier was encouraged to find creative ways to engage students and motivate them to honor the memory of veterans in their home town.
At first, his students started out researching the names of veterans from Carlsbad High School, Frazier said. They found the names of 133 men from all over North County.
So impressive was the project that it won the 2003-04 North County Educators Project of the Year Award.
More than 800 students from Carlsbad High including members of the community, business owners, family members of those honored and local civic organizations have helped by donating time and resources to bringing this project to fruition. Frazier said that people from as far north as Orange County have come down to help with the project.
Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Stephen Bliss of the Army and Navy Academy, a highly decorated veteran of the war himself, said that after being presented the idea of having the memorial placed on the grounds of the academy, he immediately took the idea to the board of trustees and got their approval. A location was found that everyone agreed was an ideal spot.
Five Army and Navy Academy graduates are among the 133 names on the memorial.
Jan Scruggs, founder of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington D.C., said the memorial will help to keep history alive and honor those who have served as well as those now serving in the armed services.
“Jack Frazier is a great patriot who wasn’t afraid to take action,” Scruggs said. “He epitomizes the spirit of the veteran to sacrifice for others.”
Frazier said many obstacles were overcome to complete the project. He said that at times he encountered resistance from local leaders, politicians, anti-war groups and individuals still angry about the conflict in Vietnam.
For many of the Vietnam veterans at the dedication, the monument represents an opportunity to heal. Having received less than a hero’s welcome upon returning home, veterans of the conflict felt ashamed and as a result, buried the memory of their military past.
Norm Ream of Encinitas said, “The day I got back, I was headed to have my first legal drink in the United States, and I was spat upon.”
Other veterans recalled being called baby killers and having been asked how many villages they burned down.
Frazier said his healing didn’t begin until the final day of his trip to Washington D.C. in 2003.
After being urged by a friend to visit the wall, he found the name of a cousin who was killed in the conflict. He said that when he touched the name of his cousin, he nearly had a nervous breakdown. So moved was he by the experience that he cried for nearly an hour and had to be helped to his feet.
Now that the memorial has been dedicated, he said, “everything is going to be alright.”
Some at the ceremony said the monument gives those who lost loved ones in the conflict an opportunity to honor their memory without having to travel all the way to Washington D.C.
Organizers said they expect the memorial to become a destination for people who wish to pay their respects to the those who gave their lives in Vietnam.

Wild Thing’s comment…….
“At first, his students started out researching the names of veterans from Carlsbad High School,”
I love how they had the students do this. To get them involved, they will remember those who served more by the fact they did research to learn about them.
This would be great if this could happen across our land instead of how so many teachers want to re-write history and lie about the Vietnam War.

Matthis Chiroux US soldier refuses to serve in ‘illegal Iraq war’

Breitbart ….for complete article
“I was from a poor, white family from the south, and I did badly in school,” the now 24-year-old told AFP.
“I was ‘filet mignon’ for recruiters. They started phoning me when I was in 10th grade,” or around 16 years old, he added.
Chiroux joined the US army straight out of high school nearly six years ago, and worked his way up from private to sergeant.
He served in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines and was due to be deployed next month in Iraq.
On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war.
“I stand before you today with the strength and clarity and resolve to declare to the military, my government and the world that this soldier will not be deploying to Iraq,” Chiroux said in the sun-filled rotunda of a congressional building in Washington.
“My decision is based on my desire to no longer continue violating my core values to support an illegal and unconstitutional occupation… I refuse to participate in the Iraq occupation,” he said, as a dozen veterans of the five-year-old Iraq war looked on.
Minutes earlier, Chiroux had cried openly as he listened to former comrades-in-arms testify before members of Congress about the failings of the Iraq war.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
This crap is John Kerry revisited!!!
Six years down the road after promotions and reenlistments, he’s blaming it on the recruiters????
What a hypocritical jerk!!!!!
He volunteered, then he reenlisted and I’m sure got a big reup bonus out of it too. He has been cashing those paychecks for many years and now the cowardly bastard wants to quit because he is afraid to go to Iraq.!!!!!!
Patriotic dissent my arse…The enemy supporting propaganda from the left is working.
“My decision is based on my desire to no longer continue violating my core values to support an illegal and unconstitutional occupation…”
From a bad high school student to an expert on constitutional law in a few short years. Guess that will be his claim to those teaching him the propaganda in to his mush brain.
Once a traitor…always a traitor!!
Patton knew what to do with someone like this:
Patton’s Speech to the Troops in England May 31, 1944

“Each man must not think only of himself, but also of his buddy fighting beside him. We don’t want yellow cowards in this Army. They should be killed off like rats. If not, they will go home after this war and breed more cowards. The brave men will breed more brave men. Kill off the G_ddamned cowards and we will have a nation of brave men.”

Smackdown Of Keith Olbermann By Mark Levin

Olbermann on Wednesday’s “Countdown” “accused the President of ‘panoramic and murderous deceit,’ and of ‘creating’ an America that ‘includes cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives.'”

Wild Thing’s comment……..
This scum Olbermann needs to be removed or forced to resign. Our guys are getting killed and this puke gets paid to say this stuff. I am sick of these anti-American creeps on the media defaming our country.

Laura Ingraham Blasts Olbermann for Calling US Troops “Cold Blooded Killers”!

Wild Thing’s comment……..
I agree with what the second to the last caller said……Olberman’s head on a platter! ”
This bashing our troops should never be ignored.
Someone said to me yesterday about what Olbermann said to just ignore it that he is just asking for attention.
Maybe so, but there is a danger in NOT pointing things like this out, because it is like saying it is OK to say such a thing and it is NOT!

Quran Pushers Coming To America’s Neighborhoods

Abdikarim Maye distributes English translations of the Quran on Thursday in Wheaton , ILLINOIS, on behalf of the Book of Signs Foundation.

Qurans given out for free
Chicago Tribune

Muslim group hopes people will find understanding in the holy book, ditch common misconceptions. ‘I’d read it just to see what it says,’ a recipient says

As Marcia Macy chatted with her dog walker in the driveway of her Wheaton home Thursday, a young Muslim man passed her and hooked a plastic bag containing a Quran on her doorknob.
Unlike most religious solicitors, the man didn’t try to speak with her or engage her in debate. He simply left her a 378-page paperback English translation of the holy book of Islam.

“I’d read it just to see what it says, but I believe in Jesus, not Allah,” said Macy, a longtime Christian. “They have a right to do it . . . but I feel pretty strong in my faith.”

If Macy reads the text, she will have fulfilled the goal of the Book of Signs Foundation. The Addison-based Muslim organization says that since July it has distributed more than 70,000 free English Qurans to homes in the Chicago area and another 30,000 around Houston.
The Christian stronghold of Wheaton is the group’s latest stop. The foundation spent the previous three weeks in Chicago’s Hyde Park and Jackson Park neighborhoods.
Organizers said their aim is to help people develop their own opinions about Islam instead of being misled by common misconceptions about the faith that have been especially egregious since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“We’re just trying to be honest brokers of information,” said Wajahat Sayeed, founder and director of Book of Signs, which also is known as the Al-Furqaan Foundation. “You make your own judgment.”

Distributing free scripture is not new, of course. Many Christian groups pass out Bibles; Gideons International distributed almost 450,000 in September in a weeklong ” New York Bible Blitz.” And other Muslim groups have given away free Qurans. Lake County’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Community reports distributing more than 1,000 since 2005, with a boom in requests for Spanish-translated Qurans in the last year.
But the Book of Signs’ long-term goal is particularly ambitious: that each household in the U.S. possess a Quran, even if the residents are not Muslims.
On Thursday, two teams—each with two walkers and one person driving a minivan full of books—crisscrossed the manicured neighborhoods of Wheaton.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
I sure hope they don’t bring that garbage here.

HYANNIS
Cape Cod Times
U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.
Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It’s unclear what Kennedy’s medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.
Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.
Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.
A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.
Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.
He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.
Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

America Responds To Michelle Obama

She said

America responds

It comes down to the fact that Michelle Obama is NOT proud of America and I will add even if her husband wins the Presidency she will not be truly proud. It will only be a win and nothing more.
Real pride in America comes from the souls and hearts of Americans that know how and why our country is like non other, why we have been able to live in the land of the free and it is NOT because of any politician.
So a HUGE thank you to our Veterans, our troops today to all of our military and every branch of the service we can never ever repay you for what you do and make possible for our entire country.

….Thank you Mark for the link.

Armed Forces Day

This is the day on which we have the welcome opportunity to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces … to all the individuals who are in the service of their country all over the world. Armed Forces Day won’t be a matter of parades and receptions for a good many of them. They will all be in line of duty and some of them may give their lives in that duty.

Sniveling Whiner B. Hussein Obama Complains About Fox News

Obama blames Fox News, e-mail for likely loss in Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, facing a likely defeat in next Tuesday’s primary election, won’t travel to Kentucky before the voting, but said he hopes to have much more time to win over Kentucky voters before the November general election.

He also blamed Fox News for disseminating “rumors” about him and said that that and e-mails filled with misinformation that have been “systematically” dispersed have hurt him in Kentucky.

“When we’re able to campaign in a place like Iowa for several months and I can visit and talk to people individually, I do very well. That’s harder to do at this stage in the campaign,” Obama said in a brief telephone interview Friday. “And once we get past the primary, we’ll ble to focus more on those states where we need to make sure people know my track record.”

In contrast, Obama’s rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, will make five stops in Kentucky over the weekend, including appearances at two university campuses.
Obama spoke to more than 8,000 supporters in Louisville Monday night — his first time in the state since August. He said he had hoped to spend more time in Kentucky earlier this week but was called back to Washington, D.C. for votes on Tuesday.
Since then, he’s stumped in Oregon, which will hold its primary by mail on Tuesday, and South Dakota, where Democrats vote June 3, as well as in states that have already held their primary elections, such as Michigan and Missouri.

“We’re having to campaign in a lot of different places,” Obama said. “Obviously we think Kentucky is important. People in Kentucky are concerned about the same things people are concerned about all across the country — declining wages and incomes combined with the rising costs of everything from gas to health care.”

Obama’s wife, Michelle, is slated to campaign in Kentucky on Monday.
Obama conceded that he has a steep challenge to get his message and background to voters in states such as Kentucky — where he trails Sen. Hillary Clinton by 27 points, according to a poll published earlier this week — and West Virginia, where voters chose Clinton over Obama by 40 points on Tuesday.

“What it says is that I’m not very well known in that part of the country,” Obama said. “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.”

Obama has been trying to introduce himself to Kentuckians using a series of biographical TV ads, as well as fliers, including one that shows him at a pulpit in front of a church’s cross and pipe organ.

He acknowledged that he’s trying to “reverse a lot of misconceptions” about his background. He is a Christian, although some e-mail chains have said he is a Muslim.

“Part of it is because there have been these e-mails that have been sent out very systematically, presumably by various political opponents, although I don’t know who,” he said. “And there are a lot of voters who get their news from Fox News. Fox has been pumping up rumors about my religious beliefs or my patriotism or what have you since the beginning of the campaign.”

As Clinton continues to argue that she is better suited to win in key, large swing states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio, Obama countered that he has performed better among independents.
And he said he and Clinton match up similarly against Republican nominee John McCain. Both trail McCain, the U.S. Senator from Arizona, by double digits in a Herald-Leader/WKYT poll of 600 likely general election voters. McCain leads Clinton by 12 points and Obama by 25 points.

“I think whoever the Democratic is we’re going to have some work to do in a state like Kentucky,” Obama said.

Ok Barry there are not 57 States and Illinois borders Kentucky while Arkansas does not. Geography is not Hussein’s strong point.
