In Crystal Beach Park Arena in the small rural town of Woodward, Oklahoma, population 12,000, the Freedom Ring 2009 festival was held. 9,200 tickets were sold. The organizers said that 14,000 enthusiastic supporters attended the event, and it was standing room only for President Bush’s address to the crowd.

Former President George W. Bush spoke amid thunderous applause in a rural Oklahoma town to celebrate the Fourth of July, calling the U.S. the ”greatest nation on the face of the earth.”
Bush was given six standing ovations as he spoke Saturday inside a remodeled rodeo arena in Woodward, a town of about 12,000 residents in northwest Oklahoma. About 9,200 tickets were sold for the event, which would be the biggest crowd for Bush since he left office in January.

”Patriotism comes in all different kinds of forms,” he said. ”Freedom is beautiful, freedom is precious, freedom must always be defended.”

Bush spoke of the bravery of injured soldiers he’d met throughout his presidency, and thanked members of the military for their service. He also thanked spectators for giving ”a retired guy something to do.”

Wild Thing’s comment…….
calling the U.S. the ”greatest nation on the face of the earth.”
You couldn’t get his successor to say those eight words, ever. Unless he were talking about
Indonesia or Pocky-ston.

….Thank you Mark for sending this to me.

TomR says:

I like George Bush. He disappointed me as president. I don’t think he held true enough to conservative values. However, as a man I think he holds true to American values. I think Laura has been the best First Lady in my lifetime.

Jack says:

I echo Tom’s sentiment about GWB. Even though he was a progressive globalist, he put the nation and his military above self. I served at different times under 4 presidents, none of which were loved and respected by the military like Bush was as CIC. That a pretty good legacy in it’s self, both of the Bush first ladies had class with out the glitz. They’re approachable, real people doing real things.
Psst Numbnuts Ovomit!!! How to be a human being is not in your Telepromter.

BobF says:

Jack, I think Reagan is close to GWB in being loved by the troops. Ronald Reagan made us proud to be in the military; Carter years were rough on us. But you’re right about GWB and the military.

Wild Thing says:

Tom, I agree, on the personal level I
really like Bush, he is a good man and
means well. His big mistake for me was
trying to be a conservative on all things
when he was not, that is something that
stays consistent in a true conservative.
I love how he loves our troops and his
love for America shines through too.

Wild Thing says:

Jack, thanks for the link on Hugo.

Avitar says:

I do not know how history will judge George W. Bush but I can promise you that NBC, NYT and the other MSM opinions will be missing from that judgment. My father always said George W. Bush knew political hardball. I know that for better or worse he changed the world.
George W. Bush did amazing things and the MSM never noticed what he was doing them. He transformed China through trade. He kept the country and the economy going forward until the election of Democrats in 2006 started to role the country over. He backed the Surge in Iraq almost without political support or cover, Whatever is said about the WMD in Iraq, he took 550 Tons of Uranium out of Iraq. George Bush may also have set up the TARP program to encourage the liberals’ worst instincts to overreach, giving the US a short sharp recession rather than another long New Deal Great Depression!
Do you know how to determine the clueless in Washington? The clueless are are people who still think George Bush was clueless after the “red” Chinese laughed at Obama’s Treasury Secretary.
