Minn. lawmaker vows not to complete Census
Washington Times
Outspoken Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she’s so worried that information from next year’s national census will be abused that she will refuse to fill out anything more than the number of people in her household.

In an interview Wednesday morning with The Washington Times “America’s Morning News,” Mrs. Bachmann, Minnesota Republican, said the questions have become “very intricate, very personal” and she also fears ACORN, the community organizing group that came under fire for its voter registration efforts last year, will be part of the Census Bureau’s door-to-door information collection efforts.

“I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home,” she said. “We won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that.”

Shelly Lowe, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Census Bureau, said Mrs. Bachmann is “misreading” the law.
Mrs. Bachmann said she’s worried about the involvement of ACORN, the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, in next year’s census.

“They will be in charge of going door to door and collecting data from the American public,” she said. “This is very concerning.”

ACORN has applied to help recruit workers to help conduct the census. Republican lawmakers and some public interest groups have expressed concern over their involvement.
ACORN staffers have ben indicted in several states on charges of voter registration fraud stemming from the organization’s efforts to register voters last year.
Mrs. Bachmann, who is in her second term in the House, has become a lightning rod for criticism from Democrats and liberal talk show hosts for her unapologetic conservative views.

She said she considers that “a badge of honor.”

“It’s clear when a person speaks out against those policies they become a target, and that should be concerning to everyone,” she said.

Wild Thing’s comment…….
I really like Rep. Michele Bachmann she has always taken a stand on things and has never showed weakness against the left. She is very impressive, I wish she was my Rep. here in Florida. Thank the Lord He gives us people with visible profiles who are not afraid to take a stand.
This is so weird, I have never had anyone ask me about this, come to my door or send me anything in the mail. LOL
I was born in America, in Illinois, and lived in America all my life. haha I wonder how I missed this.
Here is a PDF file titled : Answers to Common Questions Submitted by Constituents
YIKES look at # 10 on the list in the PDF file:

10) What are the penalties if I do not respond to the survey?
Both Title 13 and Title 18, United States Code, provide for monetary penalties for failure
to respond. Title 18, U.S.C., Section 3551, et seq., the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984,
establishes uniform penalties for all federal crimes. Title 13 U.S.C., Section 221, makes
it a misdemeanor to refuse or willfully neglect to complete the questionnaire or answer
questions posed by census takers and imposes a fine of not more than $100. This fine is
changed by the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984 from $100 to not more than $5,000.
The Census Bureau is not a prosecuting agency. Failure to provide information is not
likely to result in a fine. The Census Bureau staff work to achieve cooperation and high
response rates by helping the public understand that responding to the ACS is a matter
of civic responsibility, and prefers to encourage participation in this manner rather than
prosecution.

Is the census mandatory now? I thought it was optional. My hubby chases them off the property. We have a no soliciting sign on the front door. Can’t they read english? I’m proud of Michelle Bachman.

Jim says:

The census dude came around a couple of months ago and got a GPS fix on my front porch. I have no idea what that’s about. The only info they’ll get from me is the usual names and date, place of birth. They don’t need to know any more than that.

Mark says:

The census is NOT optional, it is part of the Constitution. But they do not need your whole life history, how much you make, or do you own a gun, or whatever encroaching question they may have.
There’s going to be a lot of Misdeamenors committed by people considering this a breach of privacy. Then when they send their goons back to get more information, they will quickly learn who has guns.

Jack says:

Crap, I went through this BS last time, I have strong feeling and an intense hatred for the bastards. Name rank and serial number!!!
