Daschle and Nancy Killefer Bows Out Due To Not Paying Taxes

Former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle withdraws his nomination as Obama’s health and human services secretary.

“But if 30 years of exposure to the challenges inherent in our system has taught me anything, it has taught me that this work will require a leader who can operate with the full faith of Congress and the American people, and without distraction,” he said.

“Right now, I am not that leader, and will not be a distraction. The focus of Congress should be on the urgent business of moving the president’s economic agenda forward, including affordable health care for every American.”

Obama pick, Nancy Killefer, withdraws as tax problems take their toll on nominees

President Obama’s promise to set a new ethical standard in politics took another knock today when his budget enforcer was forced to withdraw amid revelations that she did not pay her taxes on time.
Nancy Killefer, a director of the McKinsey management consultancy firm whose brief was to cut waste and improve government efficiency, is the third member of the White House team to encounter trouble over her personal finances. Reports said that she failed for over a a year and a half to pay employment taxes on her domestic help.
Ms Killefer’s decision to withdraw her nomination follows similar controversies with Tim Geithner and Tom Daschle over their failure to pay back taxes.
Mr Geithner was confirmed as Treasury Secretary only after he apologised for his belated payment of tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes which he owed from his time working for the International Monetary Fund.
Mr Daschle’s prospects of receiving Senate confirmation for the position as Health Secretary are hanging in the balance after he admitted that he was “deeply embarrassed and disappointed” by his failure to pay $128,000 (£89,000) in taxes for a car and driver provided to him by a wealthy Democratic donor.

Wild Thing’s comment………
SahWEET!
Two down ( Richardson and Daschle ) and the rest of the administration to go. Obama not only has a problem with how he was vetted but he also has a problem in vetting his picks.
Geithner needs to step down now, as well.
Is Obama trying to say something by continually picking people with tax problems?

The whole bunch are crooks. It’s good riddance to Tom ‘the Malchomb’ Dashle. Another first class dunce who doesn’t belong within 1000 miles of a governmnet office, unless arrested by the IRS for back Taxes.

Let’s see here, $128000 in unpaid taxes over the past three years, plus the total omission of one month’s salary, some $83000 – one twelfth of his annual salary, forgotten???? He pays the $128000 and the SS taxes due on that gift driver and car. Infidels would like to know first, where did that $128000 to pay off the IRS come from in the pay to play scheme and who is the benefactor furnishing that car and driver? Is that gift donor double dipping the system too? Bet on it!!! Any use of company owned equipment for my personal gain while working for that company was deemed an asset, therefore I wasn’t allowed to drive the company rigs to and from home, restricted to company business only, I also had to keep an expense account and expense log on the equipment, reportable biweekly and or monthly.
Please let me know how and I’ll gladly file for several years of travel expenses against the bread and water budget of my former employer where I had to be acutely aware of what was deductible and what was not, not for what it actually cost but for what it should have been. It’s only fair under the rules of the Democrats. I too want compensation for many lost hours during travel to and from my many former assignments including all that unpaid ass time in those wonderful portals known as airports and in flight.
Obama’s claim for Daschle’s dropping out. That “it’s beginning to look like there are two sets of rules”. Damned right, it not only looks that way, it is that way. Charlie Rangel is living proof of preferential treatment as are Eric Holder, Tim Geitner and now Tom Daschle, no penalties or fines ever!!!

Dennis says:

I think every member of the Senate, House, and Obama’s cabinet should be audited by the IRS and the results be made public to try to restore some faith to he citizens

I got to a cached page through a back door. Could only see titles. But it was enough.
If someone were to ask who in Washington doesn’t have some sort of tax problem, very few hands would be raised. Conversely – if you or I didn’t pay “our fair share” we’d be fighting the system for eons at the cost of thousands for attorneys, etc. In the words of Leona Helmsley, “taxes are for little people.” Yep. They sure are.

Joe Biden said a few months ago to Katie Couric that is was patriotic to pay taxes. Yeah – for the ones that actually PAID their taxes!

Taxes owed by Obama’s associates and other big time Democrats would probably pay for a lot of that horrendous stimulus package.
