Scalia Likens Reading Obamacare to Cruel and Unusual Punishment
The Washington Free Beacon
Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia humorously invoked the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution, which forbids cruel and unusual punishments, when discussing the Obamacare legislation during oral argument today at the Supreme Court.
JUSTICE SCALIA: Mr. Kneedler, what happened to the Eighth Amendment? You really want us to go through these 2,700 pages?
(Laughter.)
JUSTICE SCALIA: And do you really expect the Court to do that? Or do you expect us to — to give this function to our law clerks?
Is this not totally unrealistic? That we are going to go through this enormous bill item by item and decide each one?
MR. KNEEDLER: Well –
Wild Thing’s comment………
LOL I LOVE how Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia put it.
I think it was last year, on 60 Minutes the tv show, they did a segment on Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia and it was really interesting. He is a really good man and he talked about how he was past his retirement time, but did not want to retire because he loved what he does too much. I think I posted about it last year.
There is hope. Maybe the SCOTUS will strike obamacare down. It may be that Scalia did read some of those 2700 pages and saw that much(most) of the bill is not about health. It is about federal govt. regulating every aspect of our lives. Fingers crossed here.
Tom, I pray and hope so. You are so right Tom that is exactly what it is about. I am terrified about it.
