Clinton Aide Wanted Iraq to Shoot Down US Plane
Gen. Hugh Shelton’s new memoir contains this odd nugget, notes Justin Elliott at Salon: In 1997, one of Bill Clinton’s Cabinet members suggested that Shelton order a US plane to fly low over Baghdad so Saddam would shoot it down and, ta da, give America instant justification for war.
“I was so mad I was about to explode,” recounts Shelton, thinking about the sacrificial pilot.
“Why, of course we can,” he responded. “Just as soon as we get your ass qualified to fly it, I will have it flown just as low and slow as you want to go.”
The memoir doesn’t name the Cabinet member, but Elliott notes that the way the passage is written leaves Madeleine Albright as a distinct possibility.
.
Wild Thing’s comment………
“The memoir doesn’t name the Cabinet member, but Elliott notes that the way the passage is written leaves Madeleine Albright as a distinct possibility.”
Whoever did say such a thing is despicable .
Saddam shot at our Pilots for 8 years under Clinton, America already had justification for war.

And the left talks about GW conjuring up a war for oil. Everyone should know and understand that ANYTHING the left accuses conservative of doing/saying is a reflection of their own behavior.
I love the General’s response…priceless.
What concerns me is that there are some officers that would have ordered a pilot to do that. Those rank seeking career REMF’s who would sacrifice whatever number of GI’s in order to get promoted.
I would have been OK with that suggestion if they were talking about Air Force One.
Yeah, Air Force One that would be key. Good Idea.
But that comeing from Madaline Half-bright is about par for the course.
Bob, heh heh me too. I agree Bob.
Tom, I agree with your suggestion.
Mark, your right, it is typical of her.
