LtCol William T. Russell – FOB Midway, Ad-Daluyah Provence – Fall 2004
“I am a conservative. I believe in the sovereignty and security of this one nation, under God. I believe in the sanctity of life and that life begins at conception. I believe in marriage between one man and one woman. I believe that all children in our school systems should be educated in English and taught the civic duties and responsibilities of citizenship and patriotism. I believe that we have the responsibility and obligation to control our borders and determine who is allowed to live and work in our country. I believe in private property rights and that the death tax should be killed. I believe government economic policies should reward those who build business or save and invest their money. I believe in the right to bear arms and the right of self defense. I believe in rugged individualism and that no one owes me anything just because I live and breathe. I believe we should all practice charity in some form or fashion, especially to those who are suffering and least fortunate. But charity must be voluntary and spring from a spirit of altruism and love for your neighbor. I believe that imposed systems of wealth redistribution destroy families, produce a culture of dependence and hurt everyone. Finally, I believe there is room to acknowledge the role of our Creator in public life as stated in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.” —Bill Russell in his own words

United States Congress – Pennsylvania – 12th Congressional District
814-254-4475Location:
P.O. Box 630
Johnstown, PA
Lt. Col Bill Russell had the courage to run for the seat occupied by Jack Murtha, while the man was alive and had the power of the incumbency to fight back. Murtha supervised any number of dirty tricks against Russell and not only did Russell survive, but as an unknown upstart without party support, came within striking distance of winning.
The son of a career military officer, Bill Russell’s “home” addresses spanned some eleven states and seven countries, before settling his own family in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. A fifth generation soldier, he began his military career as an Enlisted man, attended West Point, graduated from Louisiana State University, and earned his commission through Officer Candidate’s School at Fort Benning, Georgia.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Bill and his wife Kasia, pregnant with their second child, were at work at The Pentagon during the terrorist attack. After confirming Kasia’s safety, he joined hundreds of survivors in an unprecedented rescue and recovery operation. Their son was born three months after the attack, becoming the youngest Pentagon survivor of 9-11.
William Russell is endorsed by the Combat Veterans For Congress Pac, which in turn is endorsed by Sarah Palin.
“A staunch conservative, a true American patriot, and he (Bill Russell) deserves your support. If there were ever a time for the grass-roots to come together and help an underdog Republican candidate make a difference, this is it.”
– Syndicated Columnist Michelle Malkin on Bill Russell.

And this is Timi Burns also running for the same seat in Congress and the same District.
Candidate Tim Burns on Hannity show
.
Tim Burns for Congress website
And this is Tim Burns page at Facebook.
Tim Burns is running in a special election for the Congressional Seat previously held by liberal John Murtha in Pennsylvania’s 12th district. Tim has a slight lead in the polls, and can win this May 18 special election.
Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of their liberal brigade are working hard to replace Murtha with their handpicked anti-liberty candidate.
Tim is a solid conservative who will work tirelessly to stop the government takeover of healthcare, cut wasteful spending, cut taxes and create jobs.
.
Healthcare
Speaker Pelosi and the liberals in Congress just passed an almost trillion dollar healthcare bill that raises taxes, kills jobs, and buries our children in debt. In Congress, I’ll vote to repeal the healthcare bill, and work to pass common sense reforms that lower healthcare costs and improve access to care without hurting the economy.
Energy
Southwestern Pennsylvania contains the solution to the nation’s energy needs. Our coal and natural gas resources will power America and create jobs for the region. In Congress, I’ll work to create jobs in Pennsylvania’s energy industry, fight-off harmful legislation like cap-and-trade, and stop the EPA from killing coal jobs through over regulation.
Government Spending
The current rate of government spending is unsustainable and Washington is doing nothing to address it. The endless government bailouts and handouts need to end and Congress needs to get its fiscal house in order. In Congress, I’ll work to produce a budget that protects the future well-being of our children and grandchildren.
National Defense
America must be vigilant against our enemies. In Congress, I’ll never stop working to keep America safe from terrorists, and will always work to protect and fund our servicemen and women
Transportation and Infrastructure
The transportation needs of Southwestern Pennsylvania have long been neglected. In Congress, I’ll work to reauthorize the expired Surface Transportation Act to fund highway and bridge construction, investing In infrastructure that creates real jobs and grows the economy.
Social Conservative
I am pro-life and believe there is no question that life begins at conception. But, I don’t think saying you are pro-life is good enough. I think we need to provide and encourage viable alternatives to abortion and work to decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies in the first place. I believe that Marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman.
Gun Rights
As a lifelong gun owner and member of the NRA, I believe in the 2nd Amendment and Americans right to defend themselves.

Washington Wire
Sarah Palin is wading in to the upcoming House special election to fill the seat of the late Rep. John Murtha with an endorsement of Republican Tim Burns.
In a posting on her Facebook page the former Alaska governor cites Burns’s affinity for the tea party and their mutual love of a certain sport.
“In his spare time, he’s a ‘hockey dad’ coaching his sons’ team. Last year, he attended a local tea party and spoke passionately about the danger that the policies coming out of Washington pose for small business owners like him,” Palin writes.
The Democrat is Mark Critz, a former Murtha aide. Palin casts the race as one that epitomizes the “problem and solution” this election year in voters’ frustration towards Washington. “It’s a race between a career Washington bureaucrat and a small business entrepreneur,” she writes.
The May 18 special election is expected to be close. Vice President Joe Biden campaigned for Critz on Friday.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
If you live in this District I hope this helps.
Both of these men have a lot of the same things they agree on. I noticed a question at the Facebook page of Russell that said that as well and asked him the question. Below is the question by a man on facebook and Russell’s reply:
Richard Lee: “looking at the issues between Tim Burns and William Russell on their respective websites, their issues are very similar (though I really enjoy your support of the FairTax). Why should I pick you, Mr. Russell, instead of Mr. Burns?”
Reply:
Bill Russell The main issue facing the voters in the district is leadership & vision in these tough times and which candidate is the proven conservative leader in the race. Yes, my opponent agrees with me on most issues. But the people of this district need to know their Congressman will stand tough and independent against the corruption and special interests … See Morein Washington. Although I was not born & raised here, I am the only candidate in this race who stood up to an entrenched 34 year incumbent who falsely accused a local hero (a Haditha Marine from Cannonsburg) of cold blooded murder. I am the only candidate in this race who has been threatened by that same incumbent (specifically to use the power of his office to have me recalled to active duty) and has stayed in the race. I am the only candidate in the race who has consistently stood against the established party machine to represent the people. I will continue to fight for this country and our values just as I have though out my military career and the last three years of campaigning. I hope this will convince you to vote for me. V/R Bill

Looks like either way, Republicans will have a good strong Conservative running. Myself, I would go with Russell. We need good strong Conservatives like him and Allan West in Congress. Men with strong military combat experience.
Wow, that is a tough choice. Like BobF, I would consider military service the deciding factor and go with Russell. Either way, a strong conservative will be running against Biden’s boy.
I am from Louisiana and have been supporting Bill since he entered the first race against Murtha.
I was very disappointed the other night on Hannity when Tucker Carlson didn’t even acknowledge that there was another Republican in the race.
Thus the reason that no one should contribute to the National Republican Party. They are going to choose the canidates they can control.
A similar situation is happening in Nevada with the race against Harry Reid. Tarkanian and Angle have both been side lined by the National Republican Party in favor of some hack that I never heard of.
Remember the Republicans tried to out spend the Democrats under George Bush. We need people elected that are going to be staunch conservatives both fiscally and socially.
Tommy, I got a call the other night from the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee. I listen to their presentation and when they asked for a contribution, I told them I’m donating directly to Allan West. She suggested again that I contribute to stop Nancy Pelosi and I told her I will only contribute directly to candidates who I believe worthy to be in Congress. She hurriedly said “thank you” and hung up.
Great come back to the RNC BobF. Maybe this time they will get the message.
It is a tough choice. but the answer Bill Russel gave regarding Taxes is not the answer I wanted to hear. We are ‘taxed enough already’. Anybody bringing taxes up NOW is a killer for the campaign. And besides the “Fair Tax” aint gonna happen as long as Obimbo is in charge. The Health Care Taxes are going to go higher and higher, Cap and Tax is next on the list, “energy prices will Skyrocket”, may as well be a tax, the ever burgeoning National debt, then when they make all 25 Million Illegals Legal via Mass Amnesty, we won’t have enough money to buy a nickle candy bar…for dinner.
So my choice would have to be Tim Burns.
Thank everyone sooo much. I am really happy they have two to pick from. They are similar but also different too in some things.
Mark yes it is a tough choice but I can see what you mean too.
I am getting worried about the one here in Florida. They say if Crist goes Independent that Marco Rubio might have a tougher battle to win.
