Sharpton Wants NFL to Block Limbaugh’s Rams Bid

Sharpton wants NFL to block Limbaugh’s Rams bid
FOX Sports
The Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson attacked the bid by Rush Limbaugh to buy the St. Louis Rams on Monday, saying the conservative radio host’s track record on race should exclude him from owning an NFL team.
Sharpton sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, arguing that Limbaugh has been divisive and “anti-NFL” in some of his comments.

Jackson said in a telephone interview that Limbaugh had made his wealth “appealing to the fears of whites” with an unending line of insults against blacks and other minorities.

“The National Football League has set high standards for racial justice and inclusion,” Jackson said. “He should not have the privilege of owning an NFL franchise – and it is a privilege.” The civil rights leader said he’s had contact with numerous players and ex-players concerned about the bid.

Limbaugh shot back at Sharpton on his radio show.

“Now, this saddens me as well this disappoints me,” he said. “I know Rev. Sharpton. Sharpton is better than this. He knows better than this. You know, I didn’t judge Al Sharpton’s fitness to be in radio when he wanted to earn an honest living for once, given his well-documented past as the author of the Tawana Brawley hoax. I believe in freedom and I also don’t discriminate.”

Transcripts posted on the radio host’s Web site also say that on a January 2007 show, Limbaugh commented: “The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”

Asked about Limbaugh’s bid to purchase the winless Rams, McNabb said: “If he’s rewarded to buy them, congratulations to him. But I won’t be in St. Louis any time soon.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is aware of the concerns voiced by Sharpton and Jackson.

“It is very early in the process and no transfer of ownership of the Rams has been presented to the league for review,” Aiello said.

The latest complaints came a day after executive director of the NFL Players Association, DeMaurice Smith, urged players to speak out against Limbaugh’s bid.

“I have asked our players to embrace their roles not only in the game of football but also as players and partners in the business of the NFL,” Smith said in a statement Sunday. “They risk everything to play this game, they understand that risk and they live with that risk and its consequences for the rest of their life.

“We also know that there is an ugly part of history and we will not risk going backwards, giving up giving in or lying down to it.”

Dear Mr. Goodell:
I was disturbed to learn that there is a potential bid by Rush Limbaugh to buy the St. Louis Rams and I would like to request a meeting with you to discuss the myriad of reasons as to why he should not be given an opportunity to do so. Rush Limbaugh been divisive and anti-NFL on several occasions with comments about NFL Players including Michael Vick and Donovan Mcnabb and his recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons, was disturbing .
I commend the executive director of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith for publicly asking that the League seek to unify not divide in a letter to the executive committee.
Mr. Smith courageously implored that the league reject divisiveness, and we, at National Action Network, and countless people across the country, strongly echo his sentiments. I look forward to hearing from you to set up a meeting in the near future.
In Progress,
Reverend Al SharptonPresident,

Wild Thing’s comment……….
Al Sharpton, race baiter commenting on this just makes me laugh. He is so full ot it. Sharpton and Jackson are treading on thin ice.
LIMBAUGH has been divisive???? That’s rich. I would say something about pot, kettle and black, but it would be probably be construed as racissssssss.
Rush’s third hour monologue covered the topic. Rush makes fun of those who still cry out “victim” rather than encouraging them to be the best that they can be. He explains that he doesn’t care if the person is black, white, yellow, gay, straight, etc. as long as they strive to do their best and encourages others to do the same. He said the sadness is that the black and minority communities are wasting the potential of individuals by the continual victim mentality.
As far as the accusations in the press that he wants to bring back slavery, he talks again about the individual and how they need to be free to achieve and how he knows of no one that thinks that way. He concludes by saying that it is the media, for whatever reason, is hyping Rush as racist because he doesn’t toe the PC line and uses satire and comedy in his program to make his points.
I took this poll at the link for the article and this is what it shows.

Last night on O’reilly, there was a semi-black Detroit Reporter who totally condemned Rush and didn’t want him anyway near the NFL.
O’rielly asked him three times ‘what do you know’, he stated two items, and O’rielly, to his credit, told him those are lies, Fox has the best research in the business and we couldn’t find any reference to what the man said.
Then O’reilly brought up the McNabb issue, which I don’t think is a big deal. Rush stated an opinion, he thought McNabb was over rated. Which I do too. So because Rush had the nerve to say McNabb was over rated this makes him a racist. And that the sports media was trying to promote this guy and lump him in with the NFL greats. It can’t be done. If that was the case, compare McNabb to Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana or a Y.A. Tittle,( they called him,YA, because his real name was, Yelberton Abraham Tittle) it can’t be done and they know it.
Hopefully, this pc crap and the Black reverse descriminationists will get their heads handed to them.
There only way to deal with this is to call Rush a racist and try to keep him out of the NFL.

Two things will be a LOCK when Majarushy owns the St. Louis Rams:
1. Donovan McNabb will not be his Quarterback.
2. Sic ‘Em Michael Vick won’t be McNabb’s back-up either!
Fact: After 43 NFL Super Bowls, Filthadelphia has NEVER won one Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy!
Dallas has 5, Washington has 3, and the NY Giants have 3! GO RUSH GO and how about if we send him some DONATION$ so this deal goes through? We’ll be MINORITY owners too, eh? Nick, go get ’em DODGERS!

BobF says:

It’s crap like this that’s making people stand back and take a good look at race relations in America. To say Rush is racist is absurd when he has given unwavering support to Clarance Thomas, Thomas Sowell, JC Watts, Condi, and hundreds of other minorities that have worked their way to being the best they can. The problem with Sharpton and Jackson is those that Rush supports made it on their own abilities, not on government handouts, quotas, and support from Sharpton and Jackson.

Mark says:

Darth you forgot, the Squelers have 6 Lombardi Trophies.

I live two hours from St. Louis…I will go to a Rams game if he buys. I will even watch football before the playoffs and Super Bowl.
Al Sharpton probably squeed his pants at the thought he might be relevent in this discussion.

Wild Thing says:

Carrie, thank you I would love to help
in any way I can.

darthcrUSAderworldtour07 says:

Sorry Mark, but I don’t try to remember Barack Hussein Obama’s FAVORITE teams, like Chicago and Pittsburg! The 49ers have FIVE and are PERFECT in the Super Bowl at 5-0! ABP – Anybody But Philly!
I do like their cheese steaks, Mummers and canolies however.
