This is a joint statement by Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and Gen. George Casey on the transfer of security responsibility in the Muthanna Province of Iraq.
BAGHDAD – Iraq witnessed a historic event today with the transfer of security responsibility in Muthanna Province from the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) to the Provincial Governor and civilian-controlled Iraqi Security Forces. The handover represents a milestone in the successful development of Iraq’s capability to govern and protect itself as a sovereign and democratic nation. Muthanna is the first of Iraq’s 18 provinces to be designated for such a transition.
This turnover to local security forces is a sign of success.
We were well on the way to a similar success in Vietnam, when a cowardly Congress and a weak President(Ford) pulled US funding for South Vietnamese forces , and Russia and China poured support in for Communist forces. I might also mention that a dishonest cease-fire was negotiated by a dishonest Henry Kissinger to open the door for America to abandon South Vietnam.
My point being that election results in ’08 could reverse our success in the WOT if either Liberals or RINOs win office.
It sure will Tom, 08′ has me very concerned. If we get a RHINO we are lost unless he is NOT a RHINO when it comes to our troops. Heck a RHINO is nothing but a glorified Dem. ugh!
