THE world’s first “theme park” dedicated to sex and relationships is set to open in London’s bustling West End later this year, its promoters said today.
Amora: The Academy of Sex and Relationships, featuring “high-tech and interactive exhibits together with new media displays”, expects up to 600,000 visitors within its first year in the Trocadero Centre at Piccadilly Circus.
“Titillation is not the goal,” the promoters – who include sexologist and self-help book author Sarah Brewer – said in a statement, refuting comparisons with museums of erotica in Amsterdam, Barcelona and Paris.
“Our vision is to build a Kinsey-type institute in Europe for Generation X and Y to bring modern thinking around sexuality. … It truly is the world’s first theme park dedicated to sex and relationships.”

I think this seems weird. Say what??? What kind of rides would they have?
Heh… cool. That should be interesting, watching them try to find a balance between respectability and appeal.

You know, you don’t have to be a prude to wonder why this is necessary. Kinsey, in any case, was a liar (he distorted his data), he was an unfaithful, groping, polymorphous pervert who did more field work than real science, and composed a study that was both outlandish and untrue in the essentials. It also influenced a lot of people.
My kids spent some time at Trocadero Center a dozen years ago in some interactive nonsense (Star Wars, I think), and it occurred to me then that the old center of London had become about as charming as a ’60’s Bangkok whorehouse. I first walked around there in 1970, when the country was broke and cadging money from the World Bank, but at least still had fragments of self-respect.
Suricou seems to think that a balance can be struck between respectability and appeal in this place. What?
…and in any case. The Brits better have their fun while they can. Their new arrivals have other ideas for the place.
Rhod, I agree that is exactly how it is at the Trocadero Center. This gave me goosebumps when you said 1970 that was the first time I went to London. January of 1970. wow!
It was one of those deals where everyone was telling me oh you have to see this place and when I got there I felt very uncomfortable. I am not a prude at all, but there are some places I just would rather not be and that was one of them. When I left it we walked around in safer and happier places which London has and we all had a better time.
What you said about the Brits better have their fun now is so true.
January? I was there at the end of February, and the trip turned me into an Anglophile. I spent a couple weeks walking and hitching here and there, mainly because lots of transit workers were on strike, if I recall. Didn’t go back until ’95 with the kids for the V-J Day commemoration. Wonderful trip.
Then back there three years later, and it all seemed very shabby. Cool Brittania wasn’t so cool, but Suricou Raven might have another opinion.

I fell in love with it (England) too, of course like you said it has changed a lot. I love the thatched roof cottages in some of the towns I visited. OH so many things, lots of happy memories.
Wow…London has a “Sex Theme Park”…first??? Just about every American male at one time or another considers himself a sorta…”sex theme park” Most with free admission and short lines.
