Sarah Palin Speech Highlights

.

Wild Thing’s comment………
This is GREAT, they have taken some of the best things she said and put them all on one video. I am so glad they did this.

Sarah “Barracuda” Palin , you have rocked our world

One of the many highlights:

“But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot…when that happens, what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer, the answer is to make government bigger, and take more of your money, and give you more orders from Washington, and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world.”

On her experience as a public servant:

“I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities.”

On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:

“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”

On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:

“Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems – as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines…build more nuclear plants…create jobs with clean coal…and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers.”

On John McCain:

“Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.”

Piper, she is so adorable and loaded with personality.

Wild Thing’s comment………
Sarah is a seriously silky smooth stiletto assasin. Obama is bleeding and he doesn’t even know it yet. Warm. Charming. Composed. Witty. Bright. Personable. Real. All of those things, while at the same time landing body blows all over BHO. With a smile on her face she took Obama/Biden to the woodshed again, and again, and again.
Fred Thompson the night before was awesome, and then the others tlast night, Mitt Romney did a great job too and even Huckabee a none favorite of mine had a few swipes at Obama.
I haven’t seen anything like this since Reagan.
God once again has smiled down on America and blessed us with Sarah Palin. God is showing us He does does not want a Marxist elected either.
McCain is like a stealthy ninja, he has struck the Obama campaign a deadly blow with his choice of Sarah. The fawning Obama worshiping media looks completely flummoxed and frustrated that she brushed aside their character assassination attempts, and preceded to drop atomic elbows off the top rope on Obama during her speech.
Howard Wolfson commenting on Fox afterwards looked stunned, he had nothing but praise. He said she stuck a knife in Obama and twisted it with a smile on her face. The only thing he could say was he didn’t agree with her policies but that she was going to be real trouble for the dems.
Krauthammer said she didn’t just throw red meat out, she slaughtered a small cow at the podium.
Mort Kondracke: “brilliant”
Bill Kristol: “terrific”
Fred Barnes: “Look out Joe Biden!”
Chris Wallace: “A star was born tonight”
Laura Ingrham said on Fox that she thought it was one the best political speeches she has ever heard.
Obama has just been out phenomed. If she debates half this well, Biden is toast. Wolfson also noted Biden had better bring his A game or he’s lunch.
This was an historic night. I am mega excited about McCain/Palin and can’t wait to see them win the election!!

Howard Wolfson Reacts To Gov. Palin’s Speech At RNC

Chris Wallace questioning Howard Wolfson and how Howard Reacts To Gov. Palin’s Speech At the Republican National Convention.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
LOL I am enjoying this. We have waited for this for such a long time if you count the 8 years of the left attacking Bush and calling him a nazi and all the other attacks from the left.
Right about now, Obama and Biden probably feel like the dressed out moose.

Obama the Friend of Ayers and Rezko, to Appear on Egomaniac O’Reilly Factor Tonight

Barack Obama will appear on Fox News with conservative Bill O’Reilly on Thursday, the same night John McCain gives his acceptance speech at the Republican convention here. What a coincidence!
The first-time appearance by the Illinois senator on O’Reilly’s show will likely be a ratings draw, although it will not go head-to-head with McCain’s speech.
Obama’s interview will air at 8:00 p.m. EDT, while McCain’s speech will air after 9:00 p.m.
O’Reilly will sit down with Obama Thursday in York, Pa., where he plans to question Obama on his “political career, domestic issues and foreign policy in Iran and Iraq,” according to a statement by the network, which is owned by News Corp.,

Wild Thing’s comment…….
Light weight O’Reilly has no class nor shame. He brags about being an independent, fine. I could care less. But this interview he has literally been BEGGING for from Obama does not have to be the same night as the closing night of the Republican Convention. And O’Reilly the creep knows it.
More and more lately O’Reilly has been defending Obama, it really is sickening. I am sure it was his way of kissing up to Obama to try and get the interview. But good grief O’Reilly is so obvious about it. LOL
O’Reilly wants the left to like him. ah poor baby….NOT!
Rush ( my favorite) says he prefers when the left doesn’t like him, he always says it means he is doing his job. And there are an awful lot of people that don’t like Rush and most of them are on the left.
Palin squashed the cockroach and O’Reilly is throwing him a lifeline.
O’Reilly wants to be loved as a star, not respected as a journalist. He has lost a ton of respect from many conservatives with his kissing up to the left like he does in his interviews. The one he did with Michael Moore was totally disgusting.
Give him a mirror and he could preen and talk about looking out for himself….oops the people…. yeah the people.
O’Reilly’s interview is about O’Reilly. It is not to get the facts he says he wants for the American people–although this is what he tells himself and believes. However I know he will throw him many softballs and if he doesn’t and asks some hard questions he will let him off on his answers. Why? Because O’Reilly is more focused on his resume than realizing he is stepping all over the RNC’s final day.
O’Reilly has a badly inflated sense of his interviewing skills. He misses obvious follow-up questions and lets interviewees get away with vague non-answers. Not as bad as Larry King yet, but there’s time.
Rush Limbaugh is KING no one comes close, but there are many others that are really good too such as Laura, Mark Levin, and Glenn Beck. All these I named are ten times better then O’Reilly.
Sure I will tape it to watch later after the convention is over tonight, just to see if Obama says something about Palin’s speech…… oh wait….that would be…….Uh….Palin….I mean uh….er uh…..uh….uh…..uh…..Sarah uh….uh…..ah…..ah…..uh……. her speech.

She has been incensed over the Palin treatment by the MSM! They better watch out, because she is one tough attorney to boot!

Why Obama Can’t Close the Sale ~ He Wants To TAX you to Death!

Why Obama Can’t Close the Sale
The Wall Street Journal
By AL HUBBARD and NOAM NEUSNER
Even before John McCain shook up the presidential race by tapping Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, polls weren’t showing the late-August lead that Barack Obama (and many Republicans) expected. Why so?
It’s not because of the brilliance of the McCain campaign. Rather we believe that — despite the media’s best efforts to exempt Mr. Obama’s policies from critical examination — American voters aren’t sheep. They pay attention to the candidates and positions and make wise decisions about who should lead the country.
True, Mr. Obama enjoys several advantages. Republicans are struggling nationwide in head-to-head contests. Democrats lead in voter registration, and have a well-funded presidential candidate.
Yet Americans have not committed to Mr. Obama. Why?
Clearly, Mr. Obama’s weakness on foreign policy is a factor. He has a knee-jerk preference for diplomacy with China, Europe and Russia over the security of the American people and our closest allies. He hasn’t explained his shifting positions on Iraq and Iran, among other hot spots. And he felt compelled to make up for his experience gap with Mr. McCain by picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate.
But here’s the thing: It’s not that Mr. Obama hasn’t been specific enough in his governing plans. To the contrary, he has been very specific about his tax policy, health-care and energy proposals. It’s that voters are paying attention and appear not to like what Candidate Obama is saying.
Mr. Obama has proposed a massive tax increase on investors, business owners, and the “wealthy.” At a time when the American people rate the economy as the central issue of the campaign, a tax hike doesn’t make a lot of political sense. Voters know that a tax hike won’t help the economy.
Moreover, Mr. Obama’s tax plans would directly or indirectly harm U.S. investors by raising the capital gains and dividend taxes. More than half of U.S. households are equity owners, so Mr. Obama’s proposal risks alienating half the population.
Mr. Obama claims to offer a tax cut to moderate-income families, but a significant portion of Mr. Obama’s tax plan is a welfare giveaway costing more than $648 billion over 10 years, according to the Tax Policy Center.
How so? He would authorize a hodgepodge of refundable tax credits covering everything from education, mortgage payments, child care and other items for people who do not pay income taxes now.
About 38% of U.S. households pay no income tax today. Under a President Obama (whose policies would shave 15.3 million households off the tax rolls) that share would grow to nearly half of all American households.
We have been repeatedly told that everyone should pay their fair share. So this sounds grossly unfair and like a return of tax-and-spend liberal economics. No wonder there is a lot of doubt about the wisdom of the junior senator from Illinois.
Mr. Obama’s health-care proposal is not quite HillaryCare, but it comes close. A national health insurance, heavily subsidized by taxpayers, would be offered to the currently uninsured. Mr. Obama’s instincts on health care are always to move more people onto rolls of government-paid and government-mandated insurance, while depriving the marketplace the oxygen it needs for greater innovation, life-saving cures, and efficiency.
Americans have heard the refrain for government-provided health care before and know an expensive government giveaway when they see it.
Mr. Obama’s energy policy is to drill less, consume less, tax more, and spend more. With barely a nod to nuclear energy — the only meaningfully large, carbon-free source of domestic energy — he is promising a massive increase in domestic, noncarbon-based energy from sources that produce only a fraction of our energy now.
He has also proposed massive tax increases on U.S. oil and gas companies while continuing to cut off vast swaths of U.S. territory to drilling.
Again, Americans are wiser than they are given credit. They know that if you restrict supply and tax production, prices go up.
The economic wisdom of Americans should not be doubted. They can see through Mr. Obama’s proposals. They know that they will have to pick up the bill if Mr. Obama sends checks to people who already don’t pay taxes; they know a centralized government-controlled health-care system will be more expensive, less efficient, and less friendly to patients and doctors. They know that the most effective way to bring down energy prices is by keeping all our energy options open, including more drilling in the U.S.
And they know that if a candidate has spent his entire career taxing more and spending more, that’s what you’ll get — and more of it.
Mr. Obama is wondering why he can’t shake Mr. McCain. His problem isn’t his plans for the campaign. It’s his plans for governing the country. Americans just aren’t buying into them.

Wild Thing’s comment………
B. Hussein Obama = SOCIALISM
Whenever someone asks an Obama representative to explain ANY of Obama’s policies, they ALWAYS tell the questioner to go to the Obama website for the information. Obama nor his handlers can speak for themselves or explain any policy. It’s all smoke and mirrors.
Taxes on companies are also back door taxes on individuals. McCain should make this very point and challenge Obama to be a man about it and be upfront with the American people!
This will also effect charities too.
The Dems have nominated an amateur, and a not very talented amateur, at that.

Republican Convention 2008 Tuesday Night

Representative Michele Bachmann, has 23 Foster Children. She was one of the speakers.

Missouri delegate puts her hand over her heart on day two of the Republican National Convention (RNC) at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota

They played this music too with photos of our troops. I LOVE “Thunder” it is so perfect for showing our military. The audience LOVED it and every time it came to the part it says THUNDER, the audience would yell it out. OH yesssssssssss !

Boehner has a wonderful speaking vocie.
They had several prayers and even Bible verses were mentioned,. WOW What a difference in the two conventions. It is like one , the Democrats was held in Hell and this one, ours is held in our fantastic America.
After watching the Democrat convention last week, it felt like I was coming home to be able to see the Republican Convention last night ( Tuesday). Like a breath of fresh air.
Not living in la la land yes there were a couple of things I would have changed or left out like the Raza guy that is McCain’s friend had to speak. AUGH.
BUT all in all it was a wonderful , feel good evening with a lot of people that truly show they love America and our troops and our Veterans. The audience was packed with Veterans. Once during the night they were told would everyone that has served our country in the military please stand. YEOW! I loved that part, it had to be 75 to 80 percent of the audience.
Jon Voight was in the audience and Gary Sinese narrated the video of Medal of Honor winner NAVY MA2 MICHAEL A. MONSOOR . Video showing the SEAL’s put their tridents on the coffin. Wow! Also showing President Bush crying .

Sister of Michael Monsoor sitting with Cindy McCain. As the crowd was giving them a standing ovation you could just sense that the sister was saying to herself, “I’m gonna be strong, I’m not going to cry”.
Then they had the Congressional Medal of Honor recipients stand that were in the audience and more applause. Whew lots of kleenex needed by me.
Thank you God for making America the greatest country in the world

Newt Gingrich Nails It About Palin To MSNBC Jerk

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich stands up for Sarah Palin.

This happened last evening on the convention floor in St. Paul when MSNBC’s Ron Allen said to the former Speaker, “But to be fair, her resume is not something we’re familiar seeing with presidential candidates.”

This didn’t sit well with Gingrich who strongly replied :

It’s stronger than Barack Obama’s. I don’t know why you guys walk around saying this baloney. She has a stronger resume than Obama. She’s been a real mayor, he hasn’t. She has been a real governor, he hasn’t. She’s been in charge of the Alaskan National Guard, he hasn’t. She was a whistleblower who defeated an incumbent mayor. He has never once shown that kind of courage. She’s a whistleblower who turned in the chairman of her own party and got him fined $12,000. I’ve never seen Obama do one thing like that. She took on the incumbent governor of her own party and beat him, and then she beat a former Democratic governor in the general election. I don’t know of a single thing Obama’s done except talk and write.

Newt then challenged Allen:

I’d like you to tell me one thing Sen. Obama’s done.

With that, Allen retreated, and said:

Thanks very much, Mr. Speaker. I’m going to leave it there. I’m not going to argue the case. Thanks very much.

Wild Thing’s comment………..
LOL Gingrich took them to pieces, he was awesome! Obama is worthless!!
The best part of the video is watching the “reporter’s” grimace as Newt starts tearing him apart limb by limb. Absolutely smashing!

Nothing Less Then Awesome Speech by Fred Thompson at Convention 2008

Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson’s speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention.

.

RAW DATA: Fred Thompson’s Speech at GOP Convention
Fox News
FRED THOMPSON: Thank you.
Well, my friends, as — thank you very much. As has been mentioned, our thoughts are still with our friends and fellow citizens in the Gulf Coast. And our special thanks go to those who have worked so hard to keep them safe. There can be no more important work than that. But…
(APPLAUSE)
But what we’re doing at this convention is also important to our country, because we’re going to nominate the next president and vice president of the United States of America.
(APPLAUSE)
We do so while taking a different view of our country than that of the other party. Listening to them, you’d think that we were in the middle of a great depression, that we’re down, disrespected, incapable of prevailing against challenges that face us.
Now, we know that we have challenges, always have, always will.
But we also know that we live in the freest, strongest, most generous and prosperous nation in the history of the world, and we’re thankful for that.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, speaking of the vice-presidential nominee, what a breath of fresh air Governor Sarah Palin is.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, she’s from a small town with small-town values, but apparently that’s not good enough for some of the folks who are out there now attacking her and her family. Some Washington pundits and media big-shots are in a frenzy over the selection of a woman who has actually governed rather than just talked a good game on the Sunday talk shows and hit the Washington cocktail circuit.
(APPLAUSE)
I say — I say give me a tough Alaskan governor who has taken on the political establishment in the largest state of the union and won over the Beltway business-as-usual crowd any day of the week.
(APPLAUSE)
But it’s pretty clear the selection of Governor Palin has got the other side and their friends in the media in a state of panic. And no wonder: She’s a courageous, successful, reformer who’s not afraid to take on the establishment.
(APPLAUSE)
Sound like anybody else we know?
(APPLAUSE)
She has run a municipality, and she’s run a state. And I think I can say without fear of contradiction she’s the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose…
(APPLAUSE)
… with the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt. OK.
When she and John McCain get to Washington, they’re not going to care how much the alligators get irritated. They’re going to drain that swamp.
(APPLAUSE)
But tonight, my friends, I’d like to talk to you about the remarkable story of John McCain. It’s a story about character.
John McCain’s character has been tested like no other presidential candidate in the history of this nation. He comes from a military family whose service goes — to our country goes back to the time of the Revolutionary War. The tradition continues.
As I speak, John and Cindy McCain have one son who’s just finished his first tour in Iraq and another son…
(APPLAUSE)
… going back for his second one on Christmas Day, I understand. And another…
(APPLAUSE)
And another son who’s putting his country first in attending the Naval Academy.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, we have a number of the McCains in the audience tonight. And I just want you to know, I understand they’ve been introduced, but I understand — I want you to understand how proud we are of you and how much we thank you for what you’re doing for your country.
(APPLAUSE)
Cindy is here with all the children. All the children are here, I believe.
(APPLAUSE)
John is also — also here tonight is John’s 96-year-old mother Roberta.
(APPLAUSE)
THOMPSON: All I got to say is if — is if Ms. Roberta had been the McCain captured by the North Vietnamese, they would have surrendered.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, John’s father was a bit of a rebel, too. In his first two semesters at the Naval Academy, he managed to earn 333 demerits. Unfortunately, John later saw that as a record to be beaten.
(LAUGHTER)
A rebellious mother and a rebellious father, I guess you can see where this is going. In high school and the Naval Academy, John earned the reputation as a troublemaker. But as John points out, he wasn’t just a troublemaker; he was the leader of the troublemakers.
(APPLAUSE)
Although — although loaded with demerits like his father, John was principled even in rebellion. He never violated the honor code.
However, in flight school in Pensacola, he did drive a Corvette and date a girl who worked in a bar as an exotic dancer under the name of Marie, the Flame of Florida.
Now, the reason I’m telling you these things — the reason I’m telling you these things are that apparently this mixture of rebellion and honor helped John McCain survive the next chapter in his life.
John McCain was preparing to take off from the USS Forrestal for his sixth mission over Vietnam when a missile from another plane accidentally fired and hit his plane. The flight deck burst into a fireball of jet fuel, and John’s flight suit caught fire. He was hit by shrapnel.
It was a scene of horrible human devastation. Men sacrificed their lives to save others that day. One kid, who John couldn’t identify because he was burned beyond recognition, called out to John to ask if a certain pilot was OK. John replied, “Yes, he was.” The young sailor said, “Thank God,” and then he died.
These are the kind of men John McCain served with. These are the men and women John McCain knows and understands and loves. If you want to know who John McCain is, if you want to know what John McCain values, look at the men and women who wear America’s uniform today.
(APPLAUSE)
The fire on the Forrestal burned for two days. Twenty planes were destroyed; 134 sailors died. John himself barely dodged death in the inferno and could have returned to the states with the ship.
Instead, he volunteered for combat on another carrier that was undermanned from having lost so many pilots, stepping up, putting his country first.
Three months later, John McCain was a prisoner of war. On October 26, 1967, on his 23rd mission over North Vietnam, a surface- to-air missile slammed into John’s A-4 Skyhawk jet, blowing it out of the sky.
When John ejected, part of the plane hit him, breaking his right leg, his right knee, his left arm, and right arm in three places. An angry mob got to him when he fell to the ground. A rifle butt broke his shoulder. A bayonet pierced his ankle and his groin.
They took him to the Hanoi Hilton, where he lapsed in and out of consciousness for days. He was offered medical care for his injuries if he would give up military information in return. John McCain said no.
After days of neglect, covered in grime, laying in his own waste in a filthy room, a doctor attempted to set John’s right arm without success and without anesthesia. His other broken bones and injuries were not treated.
John developed a high fever and dysentery. He weighed barely 100 pounds. Expecting him to die, his captors placed him in a cell with two other POWs who also expected him to die. But with their help, John McCain fought on. He persevered.
So then they put him in solitary confinement for over two years, isolation, incredible heat, beating on a tin roof, a light bulb in his cell burning 24 hours a day, boarded up cell windows blocking any breath of fresh air.
The oppressive heat causing boils the size of baseballs under his arms. The outside world limited to what you could see through a crack in the door.
We hear a lot of talk about hope these days. John McCain knows about hope; that’s all he had. For propaganda purposes, his captors offered to let him go home. John McCain refused.
He refused to leave ahead of men who’d been there longer. He refused to abandon his conscience and his honor, even for his freedom. He refused, even though his captors warned him, “It will be very bad for you.” They were right; it was.
The guards cracked ribs, broke teeth off at the gums. They cinched a rope around his arms and painfully drew back his shoulders. Over four days, every two to three hours, the beatings resumed. During one especially fierce beating, he fell, again breaking his arm.
John was beaten for communicating with other prisoners. He was beating — beaten for not communicating with so-called peace delegations. He was beaten for not giving information during interrogations.
When his captors wanted to know the names of the other pilots in the squadron, John gave them the name of the offensive line of the Green Bay Packers.
(LAUGHTER)
Whenever John was returned to his cell — walking if he could, dragged if he couldn’t — as he passed his other fellow POWs, he would often call out to them. He’d smile, give them a thumbs-up.
For five-and-a-half years, this went on. John McCain’s bones may have been broken, but his spirit never was.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, being a POW doesn’t qualify anyone to be president, but it does reveal character. My friends…
(APPLAUSE)
… this is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of our history have sought in their leaders.
(APPLAUSE)
Strength, courage, humility, wisdom, duty, honor. It’s pretty clear there are two questions that we’ll never have to ask ourselves: Who is this man? And can we trust this man with the presidency?
(APPLAUSE)
He’s been to — he’s been to Iraq eight times since 2003. He went seeking truth, not publicity. When he travels abroad, he prefers quietly speaking…
(APPLAUSE)
… he prefers quietly speaking to the troops amidst the heat and hardships of their daily lives.
And the same character that marked John McCain’s military career has also marked his political career. This man, John McCain, is not intimidated by what the polls say or by what is politically safe or popular.
At a point in time when the war in Iraq was going badly and the public lost confidence, John stood up and called for more troops. And now we’re winning.
(APPLAUSE)
AUDIENCE: USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
THOMPSON: Ronald Reagan — Ronald Reagan was John McCain’s hero. And President Reagan admired John tremendously.
But when the president proposed putting U.S. troops in Beirut, John McCain, a freshman congressman, stood up and cast a vote against his hero because he thought the deployment was a mistake. My friends, that is character you can believe in.
(APPLAUSE)
For years, members of Congress, Republican and Democrat alike, have gouged the taxpayer with secret earmark spending. Well, he has never sought an earmark.
I’ve experienced John’s character…
(APPLAUSE)
I’ve experienced John’s character firsthand. In 1993, when I was thinking of running for the Senate, I went to John for advice. He convinced me I could help make a difference for our country. I managed to win that election. And with Republican control of Congress, we reformed welfare, we balanced the budget, and we began rebuilding our military. And what I remember…
(APPLAUSE)
And what I remember most about those days is sitting next to John on the Senate floor as he led battle after battle to change the acrimonious, pork-barreling, self-serving ways of Washington.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, the United States Senate has always had more than its share of smooth-talkers and big-talkers. And, obviously, it still has.
But while others were talking reform, John McCain led efforts to make reform happen, always pressing, always moving for what he believed was right and necessary to restore the people’s faith in their government. Confronting when necessary, reaching across the aisle when possible, John personified why we all came to Washington in the first place.
It didn’t always set too well with some of his colleagues. Some of those fights were losing efforts; some were not. But a man who never quits is never defeated.
(APPLAUSE)
Because John McCain stood up, his country is better off. The respect he’s given around the world is not because of a TelePrompTer speech designed to appeal to America’s critics abroad…
(APPLAUSE)
No, it’s not that. It’s not because of that, but because of decades of clearly demonstrated character and statesmanship.
There has never been a time in our nation’s history, since we first pledged allegiance to the American flag, when the character, judgment, and leadership of our president was more important.
(APPLAUSE)
Terrorists, rogue nations developing nuclear weapons, an increasingly belligerent Russia, intensifying competition from China, spending at home that threatens to bankrupt future generations, for decades, an expanding government, increasingly wasteful and too often incompetent, to deal with these challenges, the Democrats present a history-making nominee for president, history-making in that he’s the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for president.
(APPLAUSE)
THOMPSON: Apparently, apparently, they believe that he would match up well with the history-making Democrat-controlled Congress, history-making because it’s the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation’s history.
(APPLAUSE)
Together, they would take on these urgent challenges with protectionism, higher taxes, and an even bigger bureaucracy, and a Supreme Court that would be lost to liberalism for a generation.
This is not reform, and it’s certainly not change. It’s basically the same, old stuff they’ve been peddling for years.
(APPLAUSE)
America — America needs a president who understands the nature of the world we live in, a president who feels no need to apologize for the United States of America.
(APPLAUSE)
We need a president — we need a president who understands that you don’t make citizens prosperous by making Washington richer, and you don’t…
(APPLAUSE)
… and you don’t lift an economic downturn by imposing one of the largest tax increases in American history.
(APPLAUSE)
Now, our opponents tell us not to worry about their tax increases. They tell you they’re not going to tax your family. No, they’re just going to tax businesses. So unless you buy something from a business, like groceries or clothes or gasoline, or unless you get a paycheck from a business, a big business or a small business, don’t worry, it’s not going to affect you.
(APPLAUSE)
They say they’re not going to take any water out of your side of the bucket, just the other side of the bucket.
(LAUGHTER)
That’s their idea of tax reform. My friends, we need a leader who stands on principle. We need a president and vice president who will take the federal bureaucracy by the scruff of the neck and give it a good shaking.
(APPLAUSE)
And, my friends, we need a president who doesn’t think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade.
(APPLAUSE)
The man who will be that president is John McCain.
(APPLAUSE)
In the days ahead — in the days ahead at this convention, you’ll hear a lot more about what John will do as president, what he’ll do with regard to the economy, on energy, on health care and the environment. It’s not my role tonight to explain that vision. It’s my role to hopefully help remind you of the man behind the vision.
Because tonight our country is calling to all of us to step up, and to stand up, and put country first with John McCain.
(APPLAUSE)
Tonight we’re being called upon to do what is right for our country, what is right for our country. Tonight we’re being called upon to stand up for a strong military, a mature foreign policy, a free and growing economy, and for the values that bind us together and keep our nation free.
Tonight we’re being called upon to step up and stand up with John, just as he has stood up for our country.
(APPLAUSE)
Our country is calling. Our country is calling.
And John McCain can’t raise his arms above his shoulders. He can’t salute the flag of the country for which he’s sacrificed so much.
Tonight, as we begin this convention, we stand with him, and we salute him. We salute his character and his courage, his spirit of independence and his drive for reform, his vision to bring security and peace in our time, and continued prosperity for America and all of our citizens.
For our own good, our children’s, let us celebrate that vision, celebrate that belief, that faith, so we can keep America the greatest country that the world has ever seen.
God bless John McCain, and God bless America.

Wild Thing’s comment………..
Nick and I watched the Convention last night on C-Span. I like it better because they don’t keep cutting away to the talking heads on the networks. Also you get to see more of the speechs and music and the videos they show on the huge screen.
Fred Thompson was absolutely awesome!!!! He was jaw dropping fantastic!!!
