McCain Campaign Launches Coalition to Protect Coal Jobs
ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today launched the Coalition to Protect Coal Jobs. The coalition, a nationwide group including members of Congress, state government and other influential leaders, will spread the message about the importance of clean coal technology and the advantages of tapping the country’s vast coal reserves. The group will also speak out to protect critical coal jobs when they come under attack from the most anti-American energy ticket in history.
In addition to providing domestic energy, the coal industry is a critical part of the economy in several states. As part of John McCain’s “all of the above” energy plan, the Lexington Project, clean coal will be a key component of the drive to energy independence.
John McCain’s support for clean coal technology is in sharp contrast with both Barack Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden. Earlier this year Barack Obama said, “What we ought to tax is dirty energy, like coal” and just last week, Joe Biden claimed to be a “hard-coal miner” on his trip to Virginia, saying that it was “nice to be back in coal country.” Yet a few days earlier in Ohio, Senator Biden said he wants “no coal plants here in America” and that he and Barack Obama are “not supporting clean coal.”
Obama’s Legislative Record Shows He Has Opposed Coal:
In 2007, Obama Voted Against Mandating The Production Of Six Billion Gallons Of Clean Coal-Derived Fuels. “Bunning, R-Ky., amendment no. 1628 to the Reid, D-Nev., substitute amendment no. 1502.
The Bunning amendment would mandate that 6 billion gallons of clean coal-derived fuels’ be produced by 2022. It would define these fuels as having 20 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than gasoline and being produced by facilities that capture 100 percent of carbon dioxide emissions.” (H.R. 6, CQ Vote #213: Rejected 39-55: R 39-6; D 0-47; I 0-2, 6/19/07, Obama Voted Nay)
Obama: “The Bunning amendment would have been premature in requiring the production of billions of gallons of coal-to-liquids without providing strong environmental safeguards to ensure that this new fuel alleviates, not worsens, our climate crisis.”
(Sen. Barack Obama, “Obama Statement On Coal-To-Liquid Fuel Proposals,” Press Release, 6/19/07)
In 2007, Obama Voted Against Authorizing Funds For Coal-To-Liquid Fuels. “Inhofe, R-Okla., amendment no. 1505 to the Reid substitute amendment no. 1502. The Inhofe amendment would expedite the permitting process for the expansion of refinery facilities and authorize funds for the development of coal-to-liquid and cellulosic biomass fuels.” (H.R. 6, CQ Vote #210: Rejected 43-52: R 43-2; D 0-48; I 0-2, 6/13/07, Obama Voted Nay)

All produce coal. Obama and Biden have given statements that they want to end coal burning. Coal mining will suffer.
Joe Biden claimed to be a “hard-coal miner” on his trip to Virginia, saying that it was “nice to be back in coal country. Yet a few days earlier in Ohio, Senator Biden said he wants “no coal plants here in America” and that he and Barack Obama are “not supporting clean coal.”
Al Gore Urges ‘Civil Disobedience’ Toward Coal Plants Fox News
Al Gore called Wednesday for “civil disobedience” to combat the construction of coal power plants without the ability to store carbon, Reuters reported.
The former vice president, whose efforts to raise awareness of global warming have made him the most prominent voice on that issue, made the comment during a session at the fourth annual Clinton Global Initiative in Manhattan.
“If you’re a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration,” Gore said, according to Reuters.
It wasn’t clear what specific action he intended by “civil disobedience,” which calls for the intentional violation of laws deemed to be unjust.
Wild Thing’s comment……….
More proof that democrats are insane…good grief!
He’s a raving lunatic, but calling for attacks on coal plants is taking it to a new level.
This idiot is still ticked off that the Americans turned him down for the Presidents Office. He’s trying to punish the United States and his followers don’t even realize they are being sucked in and making him millions.
Interfering with power plants is a felony. Good luck, Albore, hope to see you in jail.
McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout Fox News
John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

I just checked my email and had this from the McCain / Palin campaign:
John McCain’s Remarks on the Economic Crisis
New York, NY
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.
Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration has put forward. Senator Obama has expressed his priorities and concerns. This morning, I met with a group of economic advisers to talk about the proposal on the table and the steps that we should take going forward. I have also spoken with members of Congress to hear their perspective.
It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration’s proposal. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.
Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.
I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.
We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved. I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night’s debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.
I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.
Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. Americans across our country lament the fact that partisan divisions in Washington have prevented us from addressing our national challenges. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country. “

Wild Thing’s comment…………
Obama will debate by himself…with his teleprompter. Sorry I could not rssist.
This move is genius. Palin is doing all the campaigning anyway. McBrilliant is doing it again! I think right now all senators should be back at their posts in Washington.
It smacks of a gutsy move albeit a gamble. His campaign’s theme is country first. I think he should simply state, “I was not willing to lose a war to win a campaign and I am not willing to win a campaign to ignore the crisis that the economy is in.”
McCain is smart now.
Obama is in a box.
Blamed if he doesn’t go back to Congress as a “care-nothing about real Americans”
Blamed if he does go back to Congress because he would be following “McCain’s lead.
This smacks of statesmanship. He is putting his country before his own ambition. This is the old, veteran statesman and war hero reporting for duty to put his country first.
He is also forcing 0bama’s hand to put a vote on the record on this issue, thus making it impossible for Zero to use it as a campaign issue.
This is widely considered to be the biggest financial crisis since 1929. McCain is making the right choice here, and returning to do what he was elected to do.
And, moreover, as a political statement the timing is impeccable. Obama cannot complain about the request to postpone the debate without showing himself to be unconcerned about the problem.
Now he’s either going to have to suspend his own campaign and follow McCain back to DC (a great ad); or he will not suspend his campaign, and will open himself to criticism about his inability to identify real problems (an even better ad, because his response to the Russia/Georgia mess is of the same gormless type).
Just by doing the right thing, and acting like a grown-up, McCain will score big points against Obama, just as a happy side-effect.
It’s a direct challenge to Obama, not only on economic issues, but a challenge to the 3am phone call. McCain has picked up the phone and made decisions, will Obama pick it up or let it ring off the hook?
Obama is remaining on the campaign trail.
Haha! “You can take my beretta, Senator Obama, WHEN YOU PRY IT FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS!”
Hehehehe!
I think it is marvelous and right on!
Obama is the one that is a clear and PRESENT danger to the US.
Joe Biden is known for not holding back and, in an exclusive interview with Katie Couric, he talks candidly about the upcoming debate and the attack ad against McCain he thought was “terrible.”
Biden, in his interview with Katie Couric, was copying off the wrong classmate’s exam again. “When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed. He said, ‘look, here’s what happened.’” Two problems here: Television did not exist in 1929, and FDR was elected in 1932.
TRANSCRIPT from Rush Limbaugh show
Katie Couric talking to Joe Biden. She said, “Are you disappointed with the tone of the campaign and ‘lipstick and the pig’ stuff, some of the ads? You guys haven’t been completely guilt free, making fun of John McCain’s inability to use a computer.”
BIDEN: I thought that was terrible.
COURIC: Why did you do it, then?
BIDEN: I didn’t know we did it, and if I had anything to do with it, we’d have never done it, and I don’t think Barack — you know, I mean I just think that was, uh —
COURIC: Did Barack Obama approve that ad? He said he did, right?
BIDEN: Yeah, the answer is — I — I don’t think anything’s intentional about that. (rimshot) They were trying to make another point.
Then Biden caught himself because the commercial ended, “I’m Barack Obama, and I approved this message.
BIDEN: Part of what a leader does is to instill confidence, to demonstrate that he or she knows what they’re talking about and communicates to people. If you listen to me and follow what I’m suggesting, we can fix this. (rimshot) Stock market crash, Franklin Roosevelt got on television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed, he said, “Look, here’s what happened.”
From RUSH Limbaugh: There was no TV in 1929! Nobody was on TV in 1929, is the first gaffe. The second gaffe is that FDR wasn’t president in 1929. Herbert Hoover was! Biden, the third gaffe is blowing a chance to blame Republicans for the Depression back in ’29 for Herbert Hoover and saying, “Bush and McCain are the new Hoovers.”
And then September 17th, this is five days ago, six days ago now in Ohio during a rope line visit, Senator Biden shaking hands and environmental activist Carolyn Auwaerter says, “Wind and solar are flourishing here in Ohio, so why are you supporting clean coal?”
RUSH: Okay, so an environmentalist comes up, “Why are you doing coal?” “We’re not doing coal! Screw you! The ChiComs are doing coal. They’re building two or three of these coal plants a week. They’re killing people. They’re polluting America! No more coal plants in the United States.” Really? Hey, Joe, do you realize where a lot of coal miners in this country work. Do you realize what state they’re in? It’s West Virginia. It’s called a state that you need? By the way, Obama has an ad that says he is for clean coal. Here it is.
OBAMA: I’m Barack Obama, and I approved this message.
MAN: (sappy music) Barack originates from Chicago, but he came to southern Illinois and seen the devastation and the loss of the jobs in this coal industry. War-shington, DC, is not listening to us. Barack understands us.
ANNOUNCER: In Illinois and the US Senate, Barack Obama helped lead the fight for clean coal, to protect our environment, and save good-paying American jobs.
RUSH: There’s a graphic in this ad that says, “The Obama record: $200 million for clean coal.” That ad has just been thrown under the bus by Joe Biden. Listen to sound bite number seven again. I think it’s number seven. I put it away. Yep, you just heard the Obama ad on the record, $200 million for clean coal, clean energy, get rid of oil. We’re going to go coal all the way, baby. And here’s Biden, September 17th, with an environmentalist wacko shouting at him, why are you supporting clean coal?
BIDEN: We’re not supporting clean coal! Guess what? China’s building two every week, two dirty coal plants. And it’s polluting the United States! It’s causing people to die! The first guy to introduce a global warming bill was me, 22 years ago. The first guy to support solar energy is me, 26 years ago. Came out of Delaware. But guess what? China’s going to burn 300 years of bad coal, once we figure out how to clean their coal up because it’s going to ruin your lungs and there’s nothing we can do about it. No coal plants here in America, build ’em, if they’re going to build them over there, make ’em clean, because they’re killing you!
RUSH: Now, put yourself in the Obama campaign headquarters. You’re David Axelrod in there and you’re writing Obama’s next speech and you’re writing the next answers to his next questions. And the phone rings, and someone says, “You know, Biden just said that you guys ran a really cruel ad on McCain; if he’d have had anything to do with it, he wouldn’t have run it.” “He said what?” “Yeah, that’s what he said.” Then the phone rings again: “Biden’s out there saying no more clean coal plants in the United States when Obama has pledged $200 million to build more clean coal plants.” (laughing) You see why I’m giving some of this stuff credence that the theory is have him just say all these off-the-wall, wacko things that they just can’t abide anymore? We’re not through. We’re not through.
Yesterday in Baltimore at the National Guard Association conference, Senator Biden again.
BIDEN: If you want to know where Al-Qaeda lives, you want to know where Bin Laden is, come back to Afghanistan with me. (rimshot) Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down, a three-star general and three United States senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where they are.
RUSH: He’s speaking to the National Guard. So he didn’t say he was “shot down,” but when you say that you’re in a helicopter with a general and two other senators and you are “forced down” and you’re in a military helicopter, what in the world does he want people to think? He wanted them to think it was mechanical or that they got shot down. So they went and asked John Kerry about this, the haughty John Kerry (by the way, he served in Vietnam) ’cause he was on the trip, and I think Chuck Hagel was there, too. I forget who the other senator was. And Kerry — who was probably clueless about the context — “Oh, snowstorm. Nobody predicted it. It came outta nowhere. We barely got down there, and had some troops come rescue us. It wasn’t a bad place to be, but snowstorm that forced us down.” Now, remember, this is the new snipper fire (sic), because Hillary was fired on in the green zone and I think Biden said he got fired on in the green zone, right? Hillary’s dodged snipper fire in the green zone. (laughing) These guys, the transparent badge of courage.
We got one more. On the Today Show today, Matt Lauer talking to The Messiah, and Lauer says, “Look, as part of this whole economic picture, the AIG situation? On Tuesday night the Fed decided to bail ’em out, huge amount of money.
That morning, prior to the bailout, John McCain said that the federal government should not bail out AIG. You chastised him,” and then Lauer added this. Cut nine.
LAUER: Three minutes later, in an interview with Meredith Vieira, Joe Biden, your running mate —
OBAMA: Right.
LAUER: — was asked the exact same —
OBAMA: Right.
LAUER: — question —
OBAMA: Yeah.
LAUER: Should the federal government bail out AIG?
OBAMA: Yeah. Yeah.
LAUER: And he said no.
OBAMA: Well, then I — Yeah.
LAUER: The federal government should not bail out AIG.
OBAMA: And I think — and I think — and I think, uh, uh, that in that situation I think Joe should have waited as well.
RUSH: You know, if Sarah Palin had said half the things that Biden is saying, what do you think the media would be doing to her? What do you think they’d be doing to her? Folks, do you realize it may be time for a brand-new Operation Chaos? I don’t know if we’d call it Operation Chaos, maybe call it Operation Save Joe Biden. The operation’s objective would be to keep Biden on the ticket, if for no other reason than programming assistance for this program.
RUSH: We found another one. We don’t have any audio on this, but we found another one. Now, keep in mind Biden told Katie Couric last night that he’s gotta be careful about what he says ’cause Republicans are going to jump on every word. (laughing) So he’s being careful! (laughing) This is Biden disciplined. This statement was made on September 20th, three days ago. It’s an MSNBC story. He was in Castlewood, Virginia, and at a campaign event the question of gun control came up. Biden said, “Barack Obama….” (laughing) “Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey. If he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.” Did the Secret Service call Biden and say, “Did you just threaten a presidential candidate?” (laughing) Folks, folks, we have a new program, SOB: Save our Biden — Operation Sling Blade. (laughing) I begged them! I begged them. (interruption) No, it’s from MSNBC! I’ve got it right here. Biden: “Don’t Fool with My Beretta,” by Carrie Dann from NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli.
RUSH: I’ve got the link right here. I just read it off the computer, and it’s The MSNBC First Read website, like ABC’s The Note. All right. “Castlewood, VA — Joe Biden took on an even folksier tone than usual as he campaigned in rural southwest Virginia this afternoon.” This is September 20th, a Saturday. “Though his focus was again on economic issues, he deviated from script to talk about an issue not often discussed by the Democrats: guns.
The Delaware senator predicted that Republicans would seek to sway voters by threatening that Obama would take away guns. Biden, claiming to be a gun-owner himself who likes ‘that little over and under,’ called that notion bogus. ‘Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey,’ he said. ‘If he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.’
I wonder if the Secret Service called Biden and said, “Did you just threaten…?”
Anyway, at this little rural place in Virginia he decided, off the cuff, that he’d better get into gun control. Kerry went into someplace in Ohio or Indiana, Illinois, somewhere, “Is this where I get me a hunting license?”
They have this impression of people in rural areas, so Biden thought he would score some points by talking about gun control, and he said, “Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey. If Obama tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.” Well, this jogged Mr. Snerdley’s memory. We went back to the audio archives, July 23rd, 2007, Charleston, South Carolina, during what we all remember the CNN/YouTube debate where viewers sent in their questions and the on-the-spot editors at CNN chose the ones that would be used. And I’m sure that CNN chose this one because they wanted to make Republican rural voters look like hayseed hicks. The viewer in this case, Jared Townsend, and his question to all the candidates: “Tell me your position on gun control. As myself and other Americans really want to know if our babies are safe,” and he held up his gun. “This is my baby, purchased under the 1994 gun ban.” He held up his rifle, “Please tell me your views. Thank you.” Anderson Cooper said, “Senator Biden, are you going to be able to keep his baby safe, meaning his guns?”
BIDEN: If that’s his baby, he needs help. (rimshot) I don’t know that he’s mentally qualified to own that gun. I’m the guy that originally wrote the assault weapons ban. Look, we should be working with law enforcement right now to make sure that we protect people against people who don’t — are not capable of knowing what to do with a gun because they’re either mentally imbalanced and/or because they have a criminal record.
RUSH: Okay, so a guy holds up his gun, loves his gun, “You gonna protect my baby?” And Biden, this guy’s insane! He’s not mentally qualified to own the gun. If that’s his baby, he needs help. Saturday, Joe Biden: “Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, don’t buy that malarkey. If he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.” Again, folks, a new Operation Chaos, it’s called SOB, Save Our Biden, Operation Sling Blade. We need to keep this guy in the campaign.

LMAO I love how he put this together.
That was a transcript from the Rush Limbaugh show. LMAO I love how Rush does so much homework for his show, he excells and this is one of the reasons. I love how he listed some of the latest gaffe’s and how they came about.
Thank goodness Rush is on our side. And thank God Biden is NOT. hahahaha
I sure hope Obama does not change his VP. That would be horrible for many reasons.
If you look up the definition of “loose cannon” in the encyclopedia, iti would be Joe Biden’s picture is in the entry.
5th Grader Suspended For Anti-Obama Shirt My Fox Colorado
AURORA (MyFOXColorado.com) – An 11-year-old in Aurora says his first amendment rights are being trampled after he was suspended for wearing a homemade shirt that reads “Obama is a terrorist’s best friend.”
The fifth grader at Aurora Frontier K-8 School wore it on a day when students were asked to wear red, white and blue to show their patriotism.
The boy’s father Dann Dalton describes himself as a “proud conservative” who has taken part in some controversial anti-abortion protests. Dalton says the school made a major mistake by suspending his son for wearing the shirt.
“It’s the public school system,” Dalton says. “Let’s be honest, it’s full of liberal loons.”
According the the boy’s father, the school district told the student, Daxx Dalton, that he had the choice of changing his shirt, turning his shirt inside out or being suspended.
Daxx chose suspension.
“They’re taking away my right of freedom of speech,” he says. “If I have the right to wear this shirt I’m going to use it. And if the only way to use it is get suspended, then I’m going to get suspended.”
Daxx’s dad agrees with him and is encouraging his son to stand his ground. “The facts are his rights were violated. Period.”
Aurora Public Schools would not talk about the case but said the district “Respects a student’s right to free speech, such as the right to wear specific clothing,” but administrators say they review any situation that interrupts the learning environment.
Paperwork submitted by the school district says Daxx Dalton was not suspended for wearing the shirt, but for willful disobedience and defiance.
The boy’s father says he intends to pursue a lawsuit against the district.
.
Now let’s contrast this to the story above:
LANSDALE, Pa., Dec. 13, 2005 CBS news A Pennsylvania student is off the hook after the American Civil Liberties Union defended his right to wear a political T-shirt to school.
Chris Schiano’s T-shirt said “International Terrorist” and had a picture of President Bush.
A security guard at his high school north of Philadelphia told him to take it off. He refused.
Schiano says he’s well versed in the First Amendment. He says he “knew right off they had no legal footing to stand on.”
The principal says after hearing from the ACLU, school officials realized that the shirt, while potentially offensive, didn’t violate the school’s dress code. It had no references to sex, drugs, ethnic intimidation or explicit language.
Schiano says he’s now wearing the shirt to school and no one’s given him a hard time.
In February 2003, school officials ordered a 16-year-old in Michigan to either take off a T-shirt emblazoned with the words “International Terrorist” and a picture of President Bush or go home, saying they worried it would inflame passions at the school where a majority of students are Arab-American.
The student, Bretton Barber, chose to go home. He said he wore the shirt to express his anti-war position and for a class assignment in which he wrote a compare-contrast essay on Mr. Bush and Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Wild Thing’s comment…………..
Obama has been endorsed by Hamas, Hezbollah, Farrakhan, Ahmedinijad, and Castro. And he is a close associate of his (Ayers) bombed the Pentagon while a member of a terrorist organization.
The writing on the kid’s T-shirt is entirely accurate.
So do you think the ACLU will come stand up for this kids rights, like they did the second story?

Protest the McCain/Palin appearance in Media, PA (Organizing)
Anti-McCain Protest: Media, PA Stop The Lies! Hosted by: Greater Media Nether Providence PA Team Where: Delaware County Courthouse When: Monday, Sept 22nd, 3:00 pm
The rally event Monday that McCain and Palin did had a new addition to it that was not seen much before.
The people who had been in attendance mentioned that there were Obama supporters there staging a protest. Some that attended mentioned that the Obama people there and they were loudly chanting Obama’s name during McCain and Palin’s speeches. Others reported that they were shouted at by the Obama people as they left the event venue.
A Democrat Committee Person from Franklin Township, PA named Mark Ungemach posted an “event” announcement on Barack Obama’s campaign website for this protest.
Obama cannot claim to be innocent on this, because he did instruct his people to “to “get in their faces”!.

Politics….Alinsky Style.
I’m not sure if this applies specifically to campaign events, but it deal with intimidation of voters, attempting to force them to vote a certain way. http://www.fec.gov/law/feca/feca.pdf

Congressman Don Young urges the opening of ANWR and the development of American Energy Sources. His bill, HR 6107, the American Energy Independence and Price Reduction Act, would open ANWR and use the approximately $200 billion in federal revenue generated to develop Alternative Energy sources.
Rep Don Young Urges Producing American Energy & Opening ANWR
The one time H.R. 6107 got out of the Senate, President Bill Clinton vetoed it because it would take 10 years before it produced. That was 13 years ago.
Young tells the House, “your friends and allies are filing suits so that we cannot drill.” Rep. Young’s energy bill H.R. 6107 to open ANWR has passed the house floor 12 times. It won’t get a vote this year.
This video is from last July of this year.
Update to today: The Democrats’ ‘Kill Drill’ Bill September 23, 2008 Investor’s Business Daily Energy Policy: With nearly 70% of voters demanding more domestic oil, the Democratic Congress is about to sneak a new drilling ban into a must-pass government funding bill — while claiming it supports drilling.Energy Policy: With nearly 70% of voters demanding more domestic oil, the Democratic Congress is about to sneak a new drilling ban into a must-pass government funding bill — while claiming it supports drilling.
Earlier this month, Rasmussen Reports found that 69% of voters support offshore oil drilling. That’s no wonder, with fuel prices still painfully high and widespread concerns that America is becoming dangerously dependent on oil-rich foreign nations with ties to Islamic terrorists in the Middle East and hostile regimes like that of leftist Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. The do-nothing Democratic Congress may not have passed an appropriations bill all year long, but it’s now in a position in which inaction would actually serve the public good.
At the end of this month, the quarter-century-long ban on oil and gas leasing on most of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) expires. With 97% of our offshore lands sitting unleased, the United States is in the dubious position of being the only industrialized country in the world that restricts access to so much of its offshore resources.
Considering public outrage over high prices at the pump, you’d think the people’s representatives would be eager to carry out the public will and let the outdated ban expire — especially since in the 21st century the exploration and extraction of oil is no longer the dirty, ecologically risky business it once was.
Wind, sun, corn, hydrogen — these forms of energy are obviously in our long-term future as substitutes for petroleum. But Democrats refuse to accept that the desperately needed remedy to our short-term and intermediate-term energy woes is more of our own oil and gas — now.
And so they are using the massive, end-of-the-fiscal-year “continuing resolution” to try to get Pelosi’s “Kill Drill” legislation enacted into law. By attaching it to a must-pass budget measure, they hope to force President Bush to sign, convince voters that Democrats have “done something” about drilling, and thus neutralize the biggest political issue of the year for John McCain and congressional GOP candidates.
It won’t wash. Pelosi’s “Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act” actually bans drilling in places where we know the oil and gas are. It prohibits drilling within 50 miles of our coasts.
The measure’s provisions for utilizing oil shale reserves in Western states are tepid at best. The legislation does nothing to encourage more use of nuclear power. Yet it will raise oil prices by taxing oil companies to the hilt to pay for subsidies and tax breaks for research into green alternatives to oil that are too expensive and still at the drawing-board stage. With Congress scheduled to take yet another recess later this week for final campaigning before Election Day, defeat of this latest attempt to pass a drilling-bill-that-isn’t would likely mean the matter is being handed on to the next Congress — and the next president. That is to be fervently hoped for, because what Sen. Reid and Speaker Pelosi are trying to do is pretend they are responding to the people’s demands for more domestic oil when they actually are doing the opposite. The voters will have to elect a far different Congress this November to see a real drilling bill become law.

Dems will give up the the moratorium on off-shore drilling. Starting on October 1, states will have no federal restrictions on oil production! They have surrendered! You can definitely thank the Republicans for staging protests and bringing the issue to the national spotlight!
“Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in an months-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer.
Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., told reporters Tuesday that a provision continuing the moratorium will be dropped this year from a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running after Congress recesses for the election.
Republicans have made lifting the ban a key campaign issue after gasoline prices spiked this summer and public opinion turned in favor of more drilling. President Bush lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling in July.
“If true, this capitulation by Democrats following months of Republican pressure is a big victory for Americans struggling with record gasoline prices,” said House GOP leader John Boehner of Ohio.”
Wild Thing’s comment………….
I just have to say I am a HUGE fan of Rep. John Boehner. I wish so much he was our Rep. here in Florida. That would be a dream come true. God bless the people in Ohio for having the brains to vote for this man. Rep. John Boehner website
I give him a lot of credit because he lead the way on fighting back at Pelosi and the rest of the democrats about drilling and our energy problem created BY THE DEMOCRATS!!!!!!
Here is a great sample of of his reaction when the dems ( Pelosi) tried to pull a fast one!!
Dem Bill “Won’t do a damn thing about American energy”
Sharpton: ‘We will never have this opportunity again’ Final Call We’ll never have this opportunity again,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton, taking to the streets for what appeared to be an emergency cross country tour in September. He hopes to rejuvenate the Obama excitement that some say has waned since the Democratic National Convention last month.
“What we’ve got to tell people is what’s at stake; that we’re dealing now with the new unemployment. Unemployment is higher than it’s been in four years, we are seeing the education and health care of our people as worse than it ever was. We cannot afford to not vote,” Rev. Sharpton said in an interview with the NNPA News Service.
“On top of that, we’ve never been this close. As African Americans we’ve never been this close to a qualified African American who represents the right thing. If he didn’t represent the right thing and he wasn’t qualified, there wouldn’t be anything to be excited about. But, we will never have this opportunity again in our lifetime and we can’t flow with being complacent.”
Rev. Sharpton took that message on a bus tour campaigning for voter turnout in Black communities of key swing and battleground states—including Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. In North Carolina alone, more than a half million qualified Blacks are not registered to vote, Rev. Sharpton said.
“I think we could lose it. When you see 600,000 unregistered in North Carolina and when you look at about the same in Georgia, the amount of those voters registered and turning out could turn those states,” he said.
In America’s Electoral College system, the presidential candidate who gets the most votes in a state wins the state and electoral votes assigned to the state.
“We could, by not coming out, cause the electoral votes to go to McCain and he could become the next president,” said Rev. Sharpton.
Perhaps the best example of this was the fight over Florida’s 25 electoral votes in the 2000 election. Al Gore had more popular votes. But, with the Supreme Court’s decision to give George W. Bush the win in Florida, he took the presidency with more electoral votes. Rev. Sharpton, calling his tour the “Not This Time” voter education and registration campaign, said his aim is also to eliminate voter fraud.
Going into the Democratic Convention, Sen. Obama was running well ahead of Sen. McCain.
Some polls showed him fluctuating between five-seven percentage points ahead of the GOP nominee. However, Sen. McCain’s nomination of vice presidential running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a charismatic speaker, added fire to his once dry campaign. Polls numbers remain extremely tight.
“I think that the dynamics of the campaign has changed and there needs to be a lot more of a grassroots effort. A lot of the excitement seems to have waned,” said Rev. Sharpton. “And I think that there must be some real efforts from the bottom up to energize the base and bring the base out.”
Rev. Sharpton said he will not get into personalities or partisanship on the road. Rather, he will mainly stick to a message about the issues as he travels through grassroots communities.

Anti-Iran Rally Turns Into Anti-Obama Rally (We Want Sarah!)
Jewish Groups Furious That Protest Against Ahmadinejad Was, At Times, A Pro-Palin, Bash-The-Dems Affair wcbs.tv.com
Politics and diplomacy were not a good mix at Monday’s protest rally against Iran at the United Nations.
Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin didn’t participate in the “Stop Iran Now” rally and there were a lot of hard feelings about it.
It was a simple sign that read “We Want Sarah. Shame On The Rally Organizer.”
Howard Webber from Brooklyn held it.
“As important an event as this is, you needed a unity of Democrats and Republicans to show Ahmadinejad that we’re not going to accept a nuclear Iran.”
Buddy Macy of Little Fells, N.J., felt much the same way.
“I’m so disappointed, upset,” Macy said. “She would have brought 10,000-20,000 more supporters of Israel. People who were curious were stopped because of partisan action.”
The brouhaha started after Clinton pulled out after she learned Palin was invited. Three organizations supporting the rally threatened to pull out unless Palin was disinvited. She was but organizers didn’t stop there.
They were furious Monday about the political signs brought by some at the rally, like an anti-Obama sign that said, “Jews Against Obama & Ahmadinejad.”
“I am upset by the sign because this is a non-political event,” said Janice Shorenstein, president of the Jewish Community Relations Council. “We are here today to cry out against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, not political. American elections are not part of this event.”
Congressman Anthony Wiener disagreed.
“I think this is a classic political event in the best sense of the word. Politicians from all corners come here to speak out against Iran,” Wiener said. “I think it would have been fine for Sarah to speak. We just needed someone of equal stature from the Obama campaign to speak.”
The question is what are the political repercussions not to have politicians speak at the rally?
“Republicans benefitted more than the Democrats did,” political consultant Hank Sheinkopf said. “Why? Sarah Palin wanted to be there, but it looks like she was purposely told not to and rejected. It gives her standing, particularly among those people who are thinking about voting Republican anyway.”

“Jewish Groups Furious That Protest Against Ahmadinejad Was, At Times, A Pro-Palin, Bash-The-Dems Affair”\
LOL tuff! The only Jewish people that would be THAT ticked off about Sarah Palin’s name being mentioned would be Democrats. Democrats that voted for Kerry. Gore, Bill Clinton and now will be voting for Obama.
Sarah Palin has the Israel Flag in her office in Alaska, does Obam have a flag of Israel anywhere? NO he has Che poster on one of his campaign offices walls. He wants to sit down with the President of Iran and have a touchie feelie meeting of how wonderful the Islam calll to prayer is to him. The Obama campaign supports Ahmedinejad, the Hams and the PLO.
There are amazing and wonderful Jewish people and they are also conservatives and are excited about Palin and were upset that she was disinvited to this rally at the UN. Those that demanded to disinvite Palin, every one of them was a Democrat for Obama. And they disgust me ! “this is a non-political event,” said Janice Shorenstein, president of the Jewish Community Relations Council.”
This woman is an idiot!!! Oh Ms. Shorenstein, politics have everything to do with the support of Israel. Obama is not and will ne ver be on the side of Israel! Janice Shorenstein thinks putting her head under the covers will make the bogeyman go away. Sadly, there is a pattern here. SEE VIDEO OF RALLY AT THIS LINK
BIDEN TOLD ISRAEL: Joe Biden, told “senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.”
