EAA is offering historic flight experiences in its beautifully restored B-17G Flying Fortress “Aluminum Overcast.” This aircraft is an example of the American heavy bomber that helped turn the tide of battle in World War II. Fly a mission back in time and feel the might of this magnificent aircraft, just as those brave young men did more than 50 years ago.
B-17 flight offers veterans a journey back in time Sun Herald.com
JACKSON, Miss.
Hunter Gates peered out a window of the World War II bomber as it lumbered down the runway, his left hand propped on a cane and his memories passing like the landscape outside.
“I’m just hoping I get to land in this one,” the 86-year-old said with grin.
The last time Gates flew in a B-17 Flying Fortress like this – Feb. 14, 1945 – it was shot out of the sky over Germany.
Gates was one of several World War II veterans who got a ride Monday in one of only about a dozen B-17s still airworthy. The plane is in Jackson this week as part of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Salute to Veterans tour.
This plane, a sleek silver bomber named the “Aluminum Overcast,” tours the country each year. The public is invited to take a ground tour or buy a ride at Hawkins Field in Jackson on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The association uses the plane to promote interest in aviation and war history and to honor men like Bill Ruddock, an 85-year-old pilot who flew 46 missions in a B-17, and Gates.
“This airplane – the 17 – is a piece of history,” said Larry Gray, a flight engineer for the group. “It almost won the war by itself, it really did.”
The plane’s next stops are in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.
After four roaring radial engines lifted the bomber off the pavement at Hawkins Field in Jackson, Gates put down his cane. He slowly made his way to the front of the plane and climbed into a small opening just behind the cockpit.
There, in the “chin turret,” the glass nose of the plane offered a panoramic view of clear blue skies and the city below. It was in this spot on a similar B-17 that Gates manned a machine gun during World War II and toggled the bombs that were dropped over Europe.
Gates, of Jackson, left his studies at the University of Mississippi to enlist in the military after the war broke out, and was on his 10th mission when his plane was hit by German anti-aircraft fire.
Eight of the 10 men aboard made it out before the plane exploded; the other two died.
“They were waiting for me when I hit the ground,” Gates recalled of enemy soldiers. “I was right in front of the Siegfried line. There were thousands of German troops.”
Gates was a prisoner of war for two months until Germany surrendered.
Ruddock, who also flew more than 100 missions in a B-29 over Korea, was more fortunate when he was shot down over Yugoslavia. Sympathetic locals hid him and his men in hay carts and helped them get back to friendly territory.
“It was a good airplane. It was tough,” Ruddock said after Monday’s flight. “You don’t know how many guns were shooting at us.”

Its awesome to hear stories. Years ago I had a chance to get inside ia B17 and it was so exciting. To be inside and imagine what it was like for those brave men was really something.

Obama’s webstie tells his followers to go to the McCain/Palin rallies so they are. I am glad the lady doing the video asked tem about policies hahaha and also why were they there and why couldn’t they let McCain/Paliln have their own rallies and leave them alone. Of course NONE of the questions could be answered. hahahaa
That man was awful, he even hit the woman with his sign. Sheesh. He couldn’t answer anything either.

If I may …
I’d like to say something….Just to get it out there so it is clear.
To all the pampered and protected Americans who feel it is their duty to inform me that I am not fighting for their freedom, and that i am a pawn in Bush’s agenda of greed and oil acquisition: Noted, and [expletive deleted] You.
I am not a robot. i am not blind or ignorant to the state of the world or the implications of the “war on terrorism.” i know that our leaders have made mistakes in the handling of a very sensitive situation, but do not for one second think that you can make me lose faith in what we, meaning America’s sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers in uniform are doing.
I am doing my part in fighting a very real enemy of the United States, i.e. Taliban, Al Qaida, and various other radical sects of Islam that have declared war on our way of life. Unless you believe the events of 9/11 were the result of a government conspiracy, which by the way would make you a MORON, there is no reasonable argument you can make against there being a true and dangerous threat that needs to be dealt with. i don’t care if there are corporations leaching off the war effort to make money, and i don’t care if you don’t think our freedom within America’s borders is actually at stake. i just want to kill those who would harm my family and friends. it is that simple. Even if this is just a war for profit or to assert America’s power, so what? Someone has to be on top and I want it to be us. There’s nothing wrong with wishing prosperity for your side.
I am a proud American. i believe that my country allows me to live my life more or less however i want to, and believe me, i have seen what the alternative of that looks like. i also believe that our big scary government does way more than it has to to help complete [expletive deleted]-ups get back on their feet, a stark comparison to places where leaders just line their own pockets with gold while allowing the people who gave them their power and privilage to starve. I have chosen my corner. I back my country, and am proud to defend it against aggressors. Also, if you dare accuse us of being inhumane, or overly aggressive because we have rolled into someone else’s country and blown some [expletive deleted] up and shot some people, let me remind you of just how inhumane we COULD be in defending ourselves. Let me remind you that we have a warhead that drops multiple bomblets from the stratosphere which upon impact, would turn all the sand in Iraq to glass, and reduce every living thing there to dust. Do we use it? No. Instead we use the most humane weapon ever devised: the American soldier. We send our bravest (and perhaps admitably craziest) men and women into enemy territory, into harms way, to root out those whom we are after and do our best to leave innocent lives unscathed.
…One last thing…a proposal. i know it has been stated time and time again but i just think it is worthy of reiteration. If you find yourself completely disgusted with the way America is being ran, and how we handle things on the global stage, you can leave. Isn’t that amazing? No one will stop you! If you are an anarchist, there are places you can go where there is no government to tell you anything. That’s right…you are left solely to your own devices and you can handle the men who show up at your door with AKs in any way that you see fit. Just don’t try good old American debate tactics on them because you will most likely end up bound and blind-folded, to have your head chopped off on the internet so your parents can see it. However if you insist on staying here and taking advantage of privilages such as free speach and WIC, keep the counter-productive [expletive deleted] to a minimum while the grown ups figure out how to handle this god-awful mess in the middle east.

Dr. Thorpe regarding the BAILOUT:
“We must ask ourselves what this action will teach our children. The answer is easy to deduce, as follows: The message that this bailout sends to our youth indicates that personal responsibility no longer matters.
” I am profoundly disappointed that my opponent, the Honorable Alcee Hastings, who has claimed to represent the interests of his constituents since first being elected in 1992, is a strong proponent of the bailout, including the original Democratic bill which was full of insidious measures that helped large corporations but did nothing for the middle class.
The people of US Congressional District 23 need a clear signal that our government will heretofore facilitate conditions that promote the success and independence of hard working families, not bail out large banks that make bad decisions. While the Democratic proposal was shocking, and Republican support for it constitutes an unfortunate act of folly, Mr. Hastings’ support of both bills is unfathomable.
Having immersed myself in District 23 for the last 5 years, I know the real struggles facing our community. For this reason, I highly support and promote personal responsibility as the soundest method of correcting the multiple deficits of our community. You have my word that my Congressional vote will be cast in a manner that helps small family businesses in the district survive during tough times while simultaneously ensuring that my people thrive in all parts of US Congressional District 23.”

Biden to Supporters: “Gird Your Loins”, For the Next President “It’s Like Cleaning Augean Stables” abc news
Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., on Sunday guaranteed that if elected, Sen. Barack Obama., D-Ill., will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions.
“Mark my words,” the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
“I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate,” Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. “And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
Not only will the next administration have to deal with foreign affairs issues, Biden warned, but also with the current economic crisis.
“Gird your loins,” Biden told the crowd. “We’re gonna win with your help, God willing, we’re gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It’s like cleaning the Augean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than – think about it, literally, think about it – this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets. This is a systemic problem we have with this economy.”
“I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I’m not being falsely humble with you. I think I can be value added, but this guy has it,” the Senate Foreign Relations chairman said of Obama. “This guy has it. But he’s gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, ‘Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?’ We’re gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I’m asking you now, I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you’re going to have to reinforce us.”
“There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, ‘Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don’t know about that decision’,” Biden continued. “Because if you think the decision is sound when they’re made, which I believe you will when they’re made, they’re not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they’re popular, they’re probably not sound.”
Biden emphasized that the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border is of particular concern, with Osama bin Laden “alive and well” and Pakistan “bristling with nuclear weapons.”
“You literally can see what these kids are up against, our kids in that region,” Biden said in recalling when his helicopter was forced down due to a snowstorm there. “The place is crawling with al Qaeda. And it’s real.”
“We do not have the military capacity, nor have we ever, quite frankly, in the last 20 years, to dictate outcomes,” he cautioned. “It’s so much more important than that. It’s so much more complicated than that. And Barack gets it.”
After speaking for just over a quarter of an hour, Biden noticed the media presence in the back of the small ballroom.
“I probably shouldn’t have said all this because it dawned on me that the press is here,” he joked.
“All kidding aside, these guys have left us in a God-awful place,” he then said of the Bush regime, promptly wrapping up his remarks. “We have the ability to straighten it out. It’s gonna take a little bit of time, so I ask you to stay with us. Stay with us.”
Wild Thing’s comment………
I know Biden is a gaffe machine, but THIS sounds almost like sabotage of the Obama campaign! Keep it coming Joe!!
If the FBI truly is doing a full background on Obama, can you imagine the size of the file and what’s in it? It’s got to scare the living daylights out of the agents doing it.
LOL Biden doing an ad for McCain. The Hamas endorses Obama, the PLO endorses Obama. Now let’s see. If you don’t want a crisis, elect John McCain, because everybody knows that none of these foreign goverments want to test their luck (they’d be suicidal) by attacking us with McCain at the helm.
Joe Biden, you just torpedoed your candidate!!!
Biden acknowledged that Obama’s lack of foreign-policy experience will provoke America’s enemies into creating an international crisis. Biden apparently thinks this is just terrific. hahaa And it’s not just that it’s the fact that Barack Hussein Obama hates America and hates capitalism, and sympathizes with our enemies, and wants to see America taken down a peg because it is still predominantly white and capitalistic. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
Not a genuine crisis, but a generated one … when it occurs, we’d better have the demands of what did 0bama know and when did he know it — if this isn’t telegraphing, I don’t know what is.
Obama’s friends, the sleeper cells, are ready and waiting to do their part.
And another thought, is this Biden’s idea of preparing everyone for Martial law or something?
Transcript is digital so there are just a couple of missing words.:
We’re gonna go here you don’t never that popular show northern exposure where you fan of the show up there in Alaska to to. — amazing that Alaska is back in the press you’d be shocked by that but now actress Janine Turner who was all macho is getting involved with politics at a different level.

“It’s very already. Yet what it was very funny securities. Well let’s go beyond just the comedy for a minute let’s talk some politics here you obviously throwing his support behind governor — what is it about her what is it about the politics of personality that has drawn you to.” Janine Turner:
“Well I think that she is a political star and I am I am very excited about her and if she’s intelligent. She — leader she’s made executive decisions she’s our first scene now Republican vice presidential nominee and I’m just thrilled about it I’m better recently in Dallas as well. At the McCain/Palin rally in Virginia Beach……….Sarah Palin Autographs my Prosthetic Leg
Her hero Sarah: compassion in action
By Rebekah Curtis Frontiersman
I’m a 22-year-old amputee and have had a lot of health and mobility problems over the past couple of years. I just got a new leg and am finally getting back on my feet. (Pun intended!) Even a few weeks ago, standing for fairly short periods of time was impossible without a lot of pain. At the McCain/Palin rally in Virginia Beach Oct.13, my family stood for around eight hours straight, and I wasn’t any more sore than anyone else. But that wasn’t what made the day one of the happiest of my life.
We arrived at four in the morning and were the first in line, out of an estimated 25,000. Since we were in front, we were able to rush like mad when they opened up the area around the stage, so we were only about six or eight feet from it. I had a special request for Governor Palin, if I was lucky enough to meet her.
Courtesy photo Gov. Sarah Palin signing a prosthetic leg belonging to Rebekah Curtis of Chesapeake, Va.
After the speeches, when Sarah walked down the stairs, my mom’s was the first hand she shook. People were already crowding in and shoving things at her to sign, and she started to move away. I was so disappointed, but Mom grabbed her hand and asked her if she would grant my request — to sign my leg. She kept moving, and Mom said, “Sarah!” one last time, and this time asked her to sign my artificial leg. Ha.
Sarah’s face lit up and she said, “Oh, yeah, okay!” She told us she’d never been asked to do that yet. There were several Secret Service men (and one incredibly dour woman) on every side, scowling the way they do, so I jokingly asked her if her guys would pounce on me if I took my leg off and tried to hand it to her, and she threw her head back and laughed. I gave it to her, and she asked how I lost my leg. I told her it was due to a congenital defect, and she said, “Bless your heart.” She pronounced my leg “beautiful,” and asked me where she should sign.
(By the way, there is also a video on Youtube of Gov. Palin signing my leg. It’s at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imkBID_YOFw , or search for “Governor Palin Autographs My Prosthetic Leg.” We were in such close quarters that the visual is all over the place at times, but you can see most of what’s going on and hear everything.)
I thought she’d hurriedly autograph one ankle, but she signed “Sarah” on one side, then turned it around and signed “Palin” on the other. It was all I could do to keep from turning into a weepy mess — and I would have if I’d looked to either side and realized Mom and one of my sisters were crying.
She said, “I am so honored that you would let me do that!” then gave me a hug and asked my name. I stepped back into my leg, and she leaned over the barricade to check it out, and said I looked beautiful and was inspiring.
I just barely managed, “So are you!” before I started crying, and she said, “Thank you!” and then hugged Mom, too.
When I initially shared the story with some friends who are politically to the left of myself, I said I couldn’t explain why I see a totally different person than a lot of them see when they look at Governor Palin, and I didn’t particularly care to try as I didn’t want to argue. What I see is someone who radiates love and compassion, someone who reminds me of my mother and other wonderful women in my life, someone who makes me want to do great things.
What I wish I’d been able to tell her is that the major reason I consider her a hero is the way she stands in stark contrast to the false compassion of our day, in which otherwise good people believe love means trying to eliminate suffering by doling out death like it’s the ultimate gift.
Modern humanitarians think, “I wouldn’t want to live like that,” and they never have a chance to see that (as Gov. Palin said in her RNC speech) with a special challenge comes a special joy. Even when we can’t see those special joys right away, our faith lets us trust we will see suffering turned right-side-out someday.
I would still be here if my parents had known about my leg before I was born, because my mother is a lot like Sarah Palin, and they both have a heart like Our Lady, Mary: wise and brave; one that “ponders all these things,” when “all these things” includes the promise “a sword shall pierce your own heart, too.”
But thousands of babies with my condition and others — cleft palate, club foot, Down syndrome, etc. — never get the chance to live.
In response to people who said it would have been better if a certain disabled little girl had never been born, the great Southern author Flannery O’Conner wrote, “In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber.”
If Flannery had lived to see Roe vs. Wade and its effects, I think she would have added “abortion clinic.”
Flannery knew about pain, suffering, and disability — she died of lupus when she was only 39 years old. She lived her adult life dying, and knowing it, and you know how she wrote about it? “I have never been anywhere but sick. In a sense sickness is a place … and it’s always a place where nobody can follow. Sickness before death is a very appropriate thing and I think those who don’t have it miss one of God’s mercies.”
Sickness and disability aren’t one and the same, but they share that quality of being a place apart — and a mercy, if only we let them.
Wild Thing’s comment…….
Sarah Palin is the real thing. God bless Rebekah for writing about this experience. There is a lot of this going on and the McCain campaign does not trumpet it about…but the people involved do, and I am grateful they do.
Today is the anniversary of the day Ayers friends killed a security guard and 2 police officers. – October 20, 1981
Obama’s Foul Weather Friends Source: Second Source Third Source:
Ayer’s wife, Weather Underground leader Bernadine Dohrn, she’s even more sinister than Ayers, and her sister, Jennifer Dohrn is shown verifying and supporting Dohrns voice telling Americans they will be attacked in the documentary. Bernadine Dohrn’s sister, Jennifer Dohrn was married to the lawyer for the Black Panthers and was a professor at Columbia at the same time that Obama was at Columbia.
1981 Obama transfers from Occidental to Columbia for his junior year and moves to NYC. He lives at 339 E. 94th St with roommate Sohale Siddiqi.
Bernadine Dohrn made numerous contacts with Fidel Castro’s Cuban Mission at the UN in 1968 and 1969, during which time she arranged for SDS groups to visit Havana.
After returning from Cuba, Dohrn and others met with North Vietnamese and Viet Cong representatives in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss antiwar strategy on US campuses. Speaking a few days later at an assembly of revolutionary student movements at Columbia University, Dohrn reported that the Vietnamese communists she met in Budapest were working with US GIs in Saigon, attempting to obtain military information.
Obama has been less than forthcoming with information that might shed light on these close associations in his past. Until quite recently, researchers have been blocked from accessing the document archives of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, now held at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
This delay has provided ample time to review and quite possibly sanitize the contents. When Klonsky was identified online earlier this year, all his posts at Obama’s website were instantly deleted. Documentation concerning many aspects of Obama’s life remains unavailable, including papers from his time in college and law school, medical records, law firm clients, and files as an Illinois State Senator. Obama’s campaign attorney has tried to suppress a TV ad that calls attention to his connection with Ayers, threatening the broadcast licenses of TV station managers and calling for the Justice Department to prosecute those who produced and financed the ad. Throughout his life, Barack Obama has selected his mentors from the ranks of those who despise the United States. This common thread connects Hawaiian Communist Party organizer Frank Marshall Davis, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright (“God bless America? No, no… God DAMN America!”) and the former Weatherman leaders, Ayers and Dohrn. In 1981, former Weather Underground members along with a few former Black Panthers are arrested in association with the robbery of a Brinks armored truck 20 miles north of Manhattan. A guard is killed and the driver is wounded. $1.6 million is recovered.
One of the Weather Underground members arrested for the Brinks crime is Kathy Boudin, along with her boyfriend David Gilbert. Boudin is sentenced to 20 years-to-life. Boudin and Gilbert leave behind a 14-month-old son, Chesa Boudin, who ends up being raised by Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn while his parents live in prison.
One of the former Black Panthers arrested in connection with the Brinks robbery is Nathaniel Burns, a member of the Black Liberation Army. Burns is also known as Sekou Odinga. Burns/Odinga is sentenced to 25 years-to-life for attempted murder of a police officer. (ODINGA, sound familiar?…also the last name of Obama’s half brother)Obama’s Muslim-radical relative, Odinga
The perps of the Brinks robbery rented cars using information obtained from the records of Broadway Baby day care. Manager of Broadway Baby at the time? Bernardine Dohrn!! ( source) Obama and Ayers later end up collaborating on several controversial projects in Chicago. They work together to grant funds to Rashid Khalidi, Trinity United Church of Christ, and ACORN, among other “worthy” recipients.
Ayers and Dohrn host a soirée at their home to launch young Barack’s political career. (But we’re now to believe that Barack did not know that Ayers and Dohrn created and starred in the Weather Underground, for which they were tried as criminals.) However it was ruled that the Government’s case was based on illegal wiretaps. Stupid rules!!! So that is why many did not go to jail at all and the ones that did like Dohrn only went for a short time.
“The ties between Dohrn and Barack and Michelle Obama may run deep. From 1984-1988, Dohrn worked at Sidley & Austin, a law firm, which is also where Obama and his wife Michelle worked and met. “For three years after law school, Michelle worked as an associate in the area of marketing and intellectual property at Chicago law firm Sidley and Austin, where she met Barack Obama,” the official Obama campaign website reports. But it says nothing about meeting or knowing Dohrn.”
Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama’s boss. She is now Obama’s chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran!
Valerie Bowman Jarrett (born 1956) is a Chicago lawyer, businesswoman, and civic leader. She is a senior advisor to 2008 Democratic U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Valerie Bowman was born on November 14, 1956 in Shiraz, Iran,
Amazing Ayers Audio unearthed from the very same week Obama worked directly with Ayers!
Extremist Ayers and Obama match almost word for word on major issues.
Ayers says everyone around him knows his views, he doesn’t hide them!
.
Compare this:
Weather Underground Mark Rudd, “Gut Check – challenge each other to be more violent” And Obama: In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.
“I’m skinny but I’m tough,” he says.
“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said.
“And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’ If they tell you, ‘Well, he’s going to raise your taxes,’ you say, ‘No, he’s not, he’s going lower them.’ You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case.”
