REP. Ted Poe Republican Texas on OBAMA’s Mandatory Use of CFL Light Bulbs

REP. Ted Poe Republican Texas speaking in the U.S. House on the energy savings bill, and the mandatory use of CFL light bulbs. From C-SPAN

Wild Thing’s comment……
Ted Poe is good, I loved the way he walked us through.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it mandate that citizens buy any private product, nowhere. Not CFL’s, not health insurance, nothing. Yet, so many Americans think that this is the way that it must be.
Martin Luther King Jr., whether you liked him and his message or not; accomplished more than anyone else in the past century. He did it by using “Nonviolent Civil Disobedience”. Until such time as Americans do the same, we can expect to continue to have the Constitution, and our freedoms, shredded, walked on, and defecated on.
Any American who votes to re-elect any incumbant from any party has no respect for the country, and has no care or feelings for his/her grandchildren.
And, any American who votes democrat supports and funds the killing of babies in the womb, the suppression of Constitutionally mandated freedoms, and the destruction of the sovereignity of this once great nation.
CFL’s are junk. They are expensive, and being Chinese, they are crappy. Where I live, the landowner put these damned things throughout the property, even supplying them to me for my home. They created static on the radio, lessened the coverage of my Aircard, and one lightning strike took out every one of them, (even the ones turned off). I had 2 incandescent bulbs, one on and one off, and they survived the strike.
52 point something percent of American voters proved to the rest of us that they just don’t give a damn about the constitution, our freedoms, nor the future of their Grandchildren.
That is sad.

TomR says:

I hate these CFL bulbs and having to use them. That is why I am buying lots of incadescent bulbs and hoarding them.
This speech and the vote on the energy plan that included mandatory CFLs occured several years ago. Sadly, President George Bush spoke highly of the plan and signed it into law.

Mark says:

The CFL’s are the most inefficeint bulbs ever. The old Edison bulb, which I buy every week so I don’t run out before the time limit, was efficient, you got 100 wats out of it. You put 100 watts in and got 100 watts out, light and heat. It said right on the bulb 100 watts. Today, though, you have to use complex algebra to figure out what the real power is because the power is complex. And what you get for lighting is not what the bulb says or uses. Also it uses a certain power in order to flux ( create the magnetic field) the transformer and then is returned to the power company. Sort of like buying a Beer thats all foam, you paid for it but all you got was foam and no beer. They also take a while to warm up, especially outside.
The color of the bulbs are all wrong, the lighting gives off a weird color. For Kitchens, if you have flourescents you buy a certain color bulb, color temperature, so the meat looks like meat and not something from intersanctum.
I have also read where these beauties have, on their own, No Lightning strike, blown up just by turning them on. Also Cold weather is a problem for all Flourescents and these are no exception. Because there are transformers inside of them and they generate odd order harmonics which can and do interrupt, Television, computers and any electronic equipment. The cheaper they’re made the worse they become. Like Computer UPS power supplies they cause problems on the neutral by overloading it. This will turn out to be Congres’s Frankenstein Monster.

Southern Class, I agree it is very sad to see what has been happening over the years and now with Obama even faster.
Tom, thank you so much for the information. I was not sure when he gave this speech. Gosh Bush signed it in waaaaaa double darn.
Mark, wow thanks for sharing about that. We bought one, just one bulb one time years ago and put it in the masterbedroom closet. Oh man Mark it was horrible. It gave off the weirdest light and the closet was still almost dark inside. It is a walk in closet and everything was like some kind of out of space feel to it with the a kind of phony lighting effect. I hated it so much so Nick took the bulb and took it to the throw away place and told them they stunk.
