Health Bill Can Pass Senate With 51 Votes, Van Hollen Says
Bloomberg.com
Democrats tonight announced that they will likely ram Obamacare through the US Senate using the reconciliation process. This would allow democrats to nationalize one-sixth of the US economy wiith only 51 Senate Democrats voting for the bill.
Even if Democrats lose the special election to pick a new Massachusetts senator Tuesday, Congress may still pass health-care overhaul through a process called reconciliation, a top House Democrat said.
That procedure requires 51 votes rather than the 60 needed to prevent Republicans from blocking votes on President Barack Obama’s top legislative priorities. That supermajority is at risk as the Massachusetts race has tightened.
“Even before Massachusetts and that race was on the radar screen, we prepared for the process of using reconciliation,” Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said.
“Getting health-care reform passed is important,” Van Hollen said in an interview on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt,” airing this weekend. “Reconciliation is an option.”
Should Democrats take that route, the legislation would have to be scaled back because of Senate rules.
He also said he expects Democratic Senate candidate Martha Coakley to win in Massachusetts.
Van Hollen said Republican predictions that the political climate had changed so much that they can capture the 40 seats needed to regain control of the House was “pure hallucination.”
Wild Thing’s comment………
God help us all!
So it looks like by hook or by crook they’re GOING to pass this abomination. They keep fanning the embers and eventually a fire will erupt.
This announcement is also an attempt to cool the voter turn-out for Scott, they are seeing the polls about his race. I don’t think what they are trying to do will work, particularly when Barney Frank has issued his clarion call yesterday that “healthcare is dead” if Scott is elected. They have threatened this before. But that which can be passed by 51 votes can be repealed by 51 votes.
Keep praying for strength because Cap & Trade is next in the chute!
So long as so many Americans sit on their kiesters and do no more than complain, this abomination will surely pass. The Tea Party Movement, as well as other Conservative efforts have made great progress in opening the eyes of people, but just reading and then clicking on to the next article does nothing to let Congress know how upset we are with this. We tried just sitting on our hands, doing nothing, and we’ve seen where it has taken us. To continue to do nothing will surely bring this slop to us, and once in place it will be very hard to unring the bell of socialism. Get a life, folks. Write an e-mail to all your reprehensives and senators. Let them know that there is a good field of non-incumbants ready and waiting to take their places. Your Grandchildren will appreciate your concern for their future.
“Never Forget the Ft. Hood Texas 14 of 11/5/09!”
The fate of these two bills seems to go up and down. The Democrats want with all their evil hearts to force this socialist agenda on us. However they are realizing that lots of Americans are adamently against them. Let’s hope that the pressure to defeat these bills continues to rise. This is really a war to keep our Constitution and it’s limits on government.
Nobody’s sitting on their asses they’re plenty of people out there. The Tea Party is the biggest unorganized protest ever, and continues to grow. People from all over the country is sending Scott Brown donations to combat the unions. There is unparalleled support for LTC. the People of New Jersey, Virginia came out in droves to drive a stake in the Heart of this Socialist pig, so far it’s bleeding and we continue to fight. The geesers are resigning from AARP in droves for stabbing them(us) in the back.
Anyone who can’t see that better get their glasses adjusted.
Great input thank you all so much.
