Supporters of Slavery Were DEMOCRATS! ~ But Reid LIES and Says Rep.’s That Do Not Support Health Care Bill Are As Bad As Slave Owners

Harry Reid Likens Passing Government-Run Health Care To Ending Slavery
FOX News

“Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, ‘slow down, stop everything, let’s start over.’ If you think you’ve heard these same excuses before, you’re right,” Reid said Monday. “When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said ‘slow down, it’s too early, things aren’t bad enough.”

Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison response to Sen. Harry Reid’s outrageous statement today in which he compared opponents to President Obama’s Government Health Care Plan to those who supported slavery.
Hutchison said Reid’s comments were “so over the top” it is unbelievable, and she said that kind of rhetoric has no place in the Senate. She believes it is a sign of desperation on the part of the Democrats.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who on the Senate floor read from this FoxNews.com article and asked that it be placed in the record, called on Reid to return to the floor and, if not apologize, at least explain what he meant.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., suggested Reid was starting to “crack” under the pressure of the health care reform debate.
“I think it’s beneath the dignity of the majority leader,” Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said. “I personally am insulted.”

Wild Thing’s comment………..
I will never understand how the left is able to lie, outright LIES like this one from Harry Reid about slavery and there is not a HUGE outcry of what a liar he is. Even if it only came from someone that knew history, that should insult anyone like that as well.
It was the Democrat Party party that clung to the institution of slavery. Reid needs to stop telling lies, er ah if that is possible.
When a liberal loses the debate, he pulls the race card in a desperate attempt to salvage his image. Epic fail.
It was the Democrats who clung to slavery as an institution…
It was Democrats who opposed women’s suffrage…
It was Republicans who passed the 1964 Civil Rights act with larger numbers and percentages than Democrats. (The most vocal opponent was Albert Arnold Gore, Sr, by the way.)
So sad that our populace is so uninformed that the Left can get away with comments like these.

Too many have the Ostrich syndrome-bury your head in the sand and hope it goes away so they don’t have to look at it and it doesn’t hurt so much. But we have to look at it and jump on them when they mess up. It’s our right. We vote them in to do our wishes, NOT to go willy nilly and do whatever the heck they please.

BobF says:

What needs to be done is a Republican with a set of kanonas needs to get on the floor of the Senate and Dingy Harry who fought to keep slavery, instituted the KKK, and filibustered the Civil Rights legislation. Unfortunately, I don’t think any Republican has the stomach to do it.

Sean says:

Desparate people do and say desparate things.
Harry Reid is only following the Leftist Playbook. “When all else fails, play the Race Card.”
The great Senator from Nevada, is on his way out and he knows it.
It must be very gratifying to almost 60% of his constituents, who oppose Health Care, to be referred to in such an insulting manner.

The great Senator from Nevada is a slave to stupidity.

darthcrUSAderworldtour07 says:

I guess President Abe Lincoln’s GOP had nothing to do with the abolition of slavery, eh? So much for over 600,000 AMERICAN caualties in the US Civil War too! Vote these Baracksheviks out in 2010 and 2012… They’re over their heads and WE THE PEOPLE have had enough Bear Nation!
“YOU LIE!!!”

Mark says:

The bottom line is Reed is trying to blame the Republicans for this, Reality is, they don’t need one republican vote. This is all smoke and mirrors. He can’t control his own party and he knows it.

Wild Thing says:

Obama and these horrible people are
obsessed with pushing this through.
It makes me sick thinking about it, and
so angry.

Not only does he not know his US History, he doesn’t even know his ass from deep center field. Someone had to say it.
But in reality, harry reid has probably never opened a true objective history of the Republic. If he were to do so, It would surely disrupt his already convoluted though process. Or should I say more correctly, lack of any thought process at all.
