Pakistan Taliban head cracks jokes, vows vengeance
SARAROGHA, Pakistan
AP
Flanked by heavily armed fighters, the new leader of the Pakistani Taliban sat on a blue blanket, amiable and relaxed as he cracked jokes and mixed in threats of vengeance for deadly U.S. airstrikes.
One day later, a suicide bomber attacked a U.N. office in Islamabad.
Hakimullah Mehsud met with reporters Sunday for the first time since winning control of the militant group, quashing speculation that he had been slain in a succession struggle following the killing of his predecessor in a U.S. drone attack.
He also described his group’s relationship to al-Qaida as one of “love and affection.” Osama bin Laden and other top al-Qaida leaders are believed to be hiding out in the remote border region with Afghanistan, possibly in territory controlled by Hakimullah.
The militant vowed to retaliate against the U.S. and Pakistan for deadly attacks on his allies and said his fighters will repel an anticipated Pakistani offensive into his stronghold.
At one point, he pulled out a laptop to show his guests an Afghan comedian’s standup routine about jihadi – or holy war – groups. On the serious side, he also showed pre-attack video testimony made by a suicide bomber.
Hakimullah spoke flanked by fighters wielding automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. He agreed to be interviewed on condition his comments not be published until the reporters left the area Monday.
One of Baitullah’s deputies, Hakimullah was known for brazen strikes on civilians, claiming responsibility for the June 9 bombing of the Pearl Continental Hotel in Peshawar and the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore earlier this year.

He vowed his forces would avenge Baitullah Mehsud’s killing and would strike back at Pakistan and the U.S. for the increasing airstrikes.

Unmanned drones have carried out more than 70 missile strikes in northwestern Pakistan in the last year in a covert program, killing several militant commanders along with sympathizers and civilians. The Pakistani government publicly protests the attacks but is widely believed to sanction them and provide intelligence for at least some.

“There is no doubt that American spy planes are being used in these attacks, but we know all the intelligence is being provided by Pakistan,” Hakimullah said. “We have taken revenge for the past attacks and we will definitely take revenge for the remaining drone attacks.”

Wild Thing’s comment……..
Can you belive it, here we have men and women, risking their lives in thie war and their CIC and his democrats are doing this H.R.3699 bill. …..or trying to.
OMG ……TREASON!
Obama’s liberal buddies are blocking a surge. This is from the blog at TheHill.com, the Briefing Room.

“Nearly two dozen House liberals have signed onto a bill introduced this past week that would prohibit an increase of troops in Afghanistan. A bill introduced by Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) Thursday would bar funding to increase troop level in Afghanistan beyond its current level. Lee and 21 lawmakers, largely from the liberal Congressional Progressive Caucus…”

Lynn says:

Wasn’t it the libs who destroyed our chances in Vietnam? They’re doing it again! What is so wrong with winning something really great, coming home in victory to parades and parties and well wishes? Why do we have to always be the “bad guys?” They’re turning Afghanistan into Vietnam: The Sequel. Obama can’t make up his mind, Biden is completely foreign policy illiterate and our kids are dying! We need more troops over there. A surge will work, just like it did in Iraq.

Avitar says:

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory has been a Democrat Party specialty. Will Rogers used to say that “the United States never lost a war or won a conference.”
Even the war with the Barberry Pirates saw the State Department forcing return of one of the enemy capitals that a brilliant junior officer had captured.
Now that communications are such that the Washington diplomats can become involved actually during the fighting we have not won a war. We are gong to have to target the RINOs the DNC and the Foggy Bottom if we hope to survive.

TomR says:

Look at how many on that list are members of the Congressional Black Caucus. That is probably one of the most communist, anti-American bunch in Congress. No surprise here. Hopefully this bill will not advance beyond committee.

Jack says:

Osamabama is the delight of the left, he is honoring his promise to his commie supporters to get out of both Iraq and Iran, no matter how many American and Allied troops die, the resulting vacuum will be no different than what we left for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, the wholesale slaughter of innocent beings. Don’t forget for a second that those Asian countries have their own Islamist factions as well as hardcore Communism to deal with. The difference being that Communists fear their own deaths when they do the butchering, not so with islamists. The spineless governments of Spain, Italy, France, England and the Netherlands have all succumbed to Islam, now that we have become their fairweather friends we can forget any lingering support or simpathy for our demise.
Yes it was Lynn, but the minds are already closed and made up. We are only repeating former strategic mistakes. The McGovern–Hatfield amendment – September 1, 1970, the amendment failed by a 55–39 margin, The Cooper-Church Amendment enacted on 5 January 1971, The Case-Church Amendment enacted on August 15, 1973. These were all bipartisan, RINO and Democrat, sponsored. Right or left? I’d rather be right than wrong!!! Democrats truly are freedom fighters, they have been fighting freedom since 1933. They wave the flag, commit the troops then cut and run, because war is a nasty business with only one outcome and that isn’t a negotiated truce. Korea is a lesson in negotiated failure.
Yes Tom, the rest are members of Bernie Sanders and Nancy Pelosi’s Congressional Progressive Congress, all Communists like the Congressional Black Caucus and the ‘bummer.
One of my ‘bama voting neighbors slipped yesterday and said ‘he f’king lied’, that was from a woman. I’m still snickering, so far only her sensibilities and her purse have been assaulted.
I’ll just leave this for all to ponder. We will never get a clear assessment from our own media, I know this from experience. I owned and used shortwave receiver in Vietnam and for nearly 20 years in remote Alaska, I still fire it up from time to time to get a different perspective. But where there is smoke there is usually a fire behind it.
This debacle could have been avoided with just a little research instead of blind partisanship. I’d like to feel their pain but I’m fresh out of empathy and will put my faith in God and myself and my money in heavy metal, lead.

TomR says:

Jack – check today’s gold price and the $ to Euro.

Wild Thing says:

Lynn, yessss it was the libs that did that.

Wild Thing says:

Avitar, yes this is going to be our own
war too on rino’s and the left and I am
dead on serious about it.

Wild Thing says:

Jack, wow what an awesome article in your
link. Thank you so much.
“And, of course, there is another question: “When the break-up comes, how many Americans understand the principles of liberty enough, and are personally prepared enough, and are willing enough to resist whatever power it may be that seeks to place us under the thumb of oppression and fight for the same protections and vanguards of liberty that first established this land?” Obviously, the answer to that question is yet to be determined, isn’t it?”
I will say right now that the ONLY ones that understand now or later the principles of liberty are we the conservatives. Truly understand it and are willing to fight for it. The rest of the population either will want to grab a hold of the worst for America and the rest are too damn lazy to pay attention or care. I am shocked at the people I meet offline out and about that have no clue. People that did not even know what my t-shirt was about when I wore it that said…I am a proud member of the Mob etc……

Wild Thing says:

Tom, good point and you’re so right.
Ditto all you said.

Jack says:

It’s scary Tom, $1039 an ounce for Gold and we haven’t had the inflation from Obama’s printing presses hit yet, it will. That erodes what ever savings we have put aside in our lifetimes to nothing. 29.685 times it’s $35 an ounce price, 3000% inflation in about 30 years, we have the Weimar government in charge.

Mark says:

The problem these people except a few, Kucinich included, come from ‘safe’ districts. The voters are farther to the left than these people are. Thanks to gerrymandering this is what we get.

Tell the Pentagonners to visit GETTYSBURG and see what THE HIGH GROUND does for tactical advantages! Leave it to the POLITICAL ‘Rules of NON-Engagement’ inside the Beltway ring knockers that never learned from the ten-year Soviet Union fiasco in… AFGHANISTAN! Winter weather begins over there SHORTLY!
