Thirsty Koala – A Firefighter Gives Koala A Drink

Thirsty Koala – A Firefighter Gives Koala A Drink (2009 Australian Bushfires)

He said he was in the middle of backburning at Mirboo North when he saw the stricken koala. “I could see she had sore feet and was in trouble, so I pulled over the fire truck. She just plonked herself down, as if to say ‘I’m beat’,” he said.
“I offered her a drink and she drank three bottles.
“The most amazing part was when she grabbed my hand. I will never forget that.”
Mr Tree and his brigade then received an emergency call-out to save a house, but minutes later Sam was picked up by wildlife carers.
She is one of 22 koalas, 14 ringtail possums, several wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos that have been handed into Gippsland carers.

this story and the one about the wonderful dog that won the Best in Show were bright spots in an otherwise very dark day yesterday.
Thanks for this, I could see stories like this over and over and over. I hadn’t seen the clip, just the picture.
This story of the fires has just been horrific. People trapped because their only road out was a bridge that burned and the fire moved so quickly they just had no chance.
I guess it’s the opposite season there since it’s the southern hemisphere, and heat has been 117 on some days, everything was already a crisp. What a sick person to start these fires. They deserve likewise punishment.

Once again, an example of how precious life really is, even if it’s some wild animal. BTW, I don’t hear those compassionate Democrats rallying to help out our ally down under. There are blacks down there too Mayor Nagin, Representative Conyers, PEBH Obama!!! Sorry Australia, if only you were a registered Democrat or lived in Gaza, a muhammedan nation, if…???
Thanks WT
