Future resting place at Chicago’s Oak Woods Cemetery of Roland Burris, named by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagovejich to replace Barack Obama in the Senate.

Blagojevich’s pick has résumé chiseled in stone
CNN
Anyone who doubts Roland Burris’ qualifications to serve as the next senator from Illinois may want to head to Chicago’s Oak Woods Cemetery.
There, Burris, whom embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich appointed to succeed President-elect Barack Obama in the Senate on Tuesday, has erected a granite mausoleum listing his many accomplishments.
Under the seal of the state of Illinois and the words “Trail Blazer,” Burris, 71, has listed his many firsts in granite, including being the state’s first African-American attorney general and the state’s first African-American comptroller.
The memorial also notes that Burris was the first African-American exchange student to Hamburg University in Germany from Southern Illinois University in 1959.
There appears to be enough room to add “U.S. senator” to the memorial, but Burris may never get a chance to serve in Washington.
A Senate Democratic aide told CNN on Wednesday that plans were in the works to prevent Burris from being seated in the Senate.
After Blagojevich made the surprise move to appoint Obama’s successor, Senate Democrats praised Burris but said they could not accept any appointment by Blagojevich after his arrest on corruption charges earlier this month. Federal prosecutors say he conspired to “sell” Obama’s Senate seat for campaign donations and other favors.
Wild Thing’s comment………
He is a legend in his own mind. He must have paid for that before he realized wikipedia could post all his accomplishments for free.
LOL What has happened to Chicago? They let dead people vote and they chisle stone monuments to the living.
Note how he is planning ahead, he has left extra space for additional accomplishments. And Trailblazer ???
Maybe this is Blago’s way of appealing to one of the most important RAT constituencies: the cemetery votes. And if they are going to vote, they need a polling place. That is no cemetery, it’s a precinct.
.
….Thank you Eden for sending this to me.
This happened once before to Adam Clayton Powell in the late 60’s, the Senate refused to seat him. Powell took it to the Supreme Court and they ruled in his favor.
Like it or not Burris has met all three qualification in the Constitution and that is all he has to do. they can not refuse to seat him. Once seated they can expel him but they can not refuse to seat him.
99 Senators, most of them Lawyers it is astonishing how many don’t even know what the Constitution says. As far as the state of Illinois is concerned Blago is still the legitimate Governor and has every right under the states law to appoint anyone he wants to replace ‘ the Anointed one’.
It seems like the dems have a real quandary and think if they don’t seat him they are done with him. They are not. And if Burris takes this to court, they will have to deal with this for years to come.
Also, if Blago gets impeached, He has already appointed Burris, the new governor will appoint someone more to the liking of HARRY REID and ‘the AO’ Illinois could wind up with 3 Senators, temporarily of course but still possible.
Is this a great country or what. This whole thing is a joke and the joke is on the American people. We have 99 Senators who have the combined I.Q. of a piss-ant but they know how to spend our money anything else is just too confusing to them.
Pre-eulogized!!! Maybe Jeremiah Wright can grant him sainthood too. There are no limits in Chicago, finally the dems can’t be accused of unfairness by just using the dead as voters when they can put them in office. Isn’t this all about holding a partisan position and not about competence, Blago is right, this saint exceeds the requirements, he’s above ground. How about that Bobby Rush? Now there is some serious gravitas!!!! Move over Nancy, I see a new house speaker in the wings.
I lmao at this one. What a putz. He’s so stupid maybe he has TRAILBLAZER on his headstone because that’s his favorite Chevy.
So far it’s been a very good year to be a Republican ex-Democrat.
Just a rant and a brief history lesson here, First, whoever said that there is some sort of social heirarchy in this Country is right but not as the left would have you think. American Citizens are at the TOP of the social ladder and everything else including elected officials comes second. That is how Our Founding Fathers intended it to be. Second, What Barry and Congress fails to understand about our Government and our Constitution is that Our Founding Fathers wanted nothing to do with government. However they needed some order for the preservation of Liberty and The Articles of Confederation was fast proving something to undo the American Revolution and make the Country easy picking for the brits if they ever were to try to reclaim their Former Colonies or the reigion would have slipped into absolute anarchy which is one of the biggest enemies of Freedom there is with the exeption of government. One lesson learned here is a Confederate form of government has more potential to destroy a country rather than preserve it. So our Constitution was written putting limits on the government and the most important part, The Bill of Rights, which said there are certain and inalienable God Given Rights that cannot be taken away by any government including our own. Third the equality in the U.S. is not equality of condition but an equal opportunity for successs. The Founders were advocates of success, prosperity and Liberty. Fourth, the separation of church and state is not because they wanted a “secular” nation but rather to prevent any Religion influencing the government like the Church of England did with Britain. The RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS is in my opinion the most important in the Bill of Rights saying the government shall not impede the People from keeping arms. If the government were to overstep its boundaries then the People had not just the Right but the obligation to Take up arms against it. If people ask well then what is the purpose of our government? The answer is found in the Preamble specifically to “…secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”
You know what else happened in 2008. It was time to vote on whether to have a Constitutional Convention for Illinois. That only comes around every 20 years. It didn’t pass.
It was poorly publicized, left off ballots, bad info was sent out by the state. They did not want it.
I personally think a lot of the problems we are having now could be fixed by an update of our Constitution.
What people for the most part didn’t understand about it I believe is that delegates are voted on by the people to attend the convention, and any changes are voted on as well. But I think with all the scandal and such, many thought the current politicians would have their hands on changing our laws to suit them with free reign.
We are also a broke state…people didn’t think we could afford it? Last time I checked, Blago’s goofyness had already cost us another 20 mil.
He is full of himself, isn’t he? I told my hubby I’d rather be cremated than have some big montrous behemoth to say “Here I am–come deface my resting place.” I want to be set free from the Rockies of Colorado where I grew up. You’d think his money would be better spent helping someone up, not getting some big old ugly cement outhouse for your remains.
Yep, they have to seat him, but if Blago goes down, so does he.
Proof that Burris is an egomaniac.
Good find.
What a monstrous ego. Sadly, when ego and criminal tendencies are side by side characteristics in one person they either tend towards being lawyers, politicians, tele-evangelists or car salesmen. Or any combination of the forementioned.
Burris fits right into the Chicago political machine. That machine ideology is going to be dominant in Washington DC for the next several years.
I wish that whole machine would qualify for a filled up mausoleum.
And this is the most ethical Congress that the Democrats promised and can give us. Looks more like a three ring circus of political corruption.
Sen. Reid Called Blagojevich About Senate Seat
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/illinois_governor_reid/2009/01/03/167411.html
“He says Reid also spoke to the New York and Colorado governors about openings created when senators from those states accepted Obama administration jobs.”
“Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero says the call shows Reid has a conflict of interest in saying he won’t accept Blagojevich’s appointee for the seat, Roland Burris.”

You couldn’t make this stuff up. Four years of Keystone Kops ahead of us. The inmates are definitely running the asylum now.
“First African-American in Illinois… to get thrown off the Senate floor.”
Trail Blazer, alright. Wasn’t that a comedy with Mel Brooks? Oh. Wait. That was Blazing Saddles.
The whole debacle is still a comedy though!
Mark, thank you so much for that information. That is really interesting and answers a lot of questions I had.
Jack, LOL yes
“Maybe Jeremiah Wright can grant him sainthood too.”
Eden hahaha that is so funny, his favorite car. hahaa
JohnE PFC U.S. Army, I love that it is actually a beautiful thing, how our country is set up like that. Thank you JohnE PFC U.S. Army.
Eden, thanks,”Blago’s goofyness had already cost us another 20 mil.” Illinois is a good State, heck I was born there. haha But I sure wish the corruption would stop.
Blago like the other dems are good at spending our money but they can’t even do that to make things better, they do it to make more messes.
Always On Watch, thank you.
With the size of his ego he might have to make the thing bigger. haha
Lynn, me too, I agree completely.
“I’d rather be cremated than have some big montrous behemoth to say “Here I am–come deface my resting place”
Tom…..AMEN to what you said.
