U.S. Issued 3,400 Visas to Immigrants from ‘State Sponsors of Terror’ in 2008

A little-known State Department program has allowed about 3,400 immigrants to come to the U.S. in 2008 from the four nations that a currently listed by the State Department as “state sponsors of terror” – Iran, Cuba, Syria and Sudan.
According to a State Department report on the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, 691visas were granted to immigrants from Cuba, 1,435 to immigrants from Iran, 1,147 to immigrants from Sudan and 94 to immigrants from Syria.
The program, mandated by Congress and administered by the State Department, consists of a lottery for applicants from countries with “low rates of immigration” to the U.S.
In the 2008 diversity visa (DV) lottery, the U.S. made available 50,000 visas for applicants.
Out of 6.4 million applicants, approximately 96,000 were chosen at random from countries in six different geographic regions, and registered. The 96,000 were then allowed to apply for one of the 50,000 visas.
Applicants must be “natives” of an eligible country — in most cases, the applicant’s country of birth. Applicants must also have either a high school education or its equivalent, or “two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform,” according to the official lottery program regulations. “Qualifying work experience” is determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Wild Thing’s comment………
This is totally insane. Here we have our troops risking their lives fighting terrorists and our government is handing out Visa’s like candy on Halloween to what very well might be terrorists.
Just as there used to be a question on US Visa applications:
Have you ever been a member of the Communist or Nazi parties ?
There should be a question ; Are you now ,or have you ever been a muslim?
All of the 19 men who hijacked planes on September 11th, including Atta, entered the United States on a tourist, or student visa, issued by the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Atta’s visa status was widely reported in the media in 2002 when the INS famously sent a letter to Atta’s Florida flight school, which was received on the sixth month anniversary of 9/11. The letter said the INS had approved a request to change Atta’s status from a tourist visa to a student visa weeks before the attacks.
“Atta was now legally in the United States until the day of the planned attack,” reads the commission’s report on 9/11 and terrorist travel, about a business tourist visa Atta was issued by the U.S. government on July 19, 2001 good through Nov. 12, 2001.
Makes you sick.
Your intollerants at work here. Poor crazies, screw the mean Americans.
“The more I see of Arabs the less I think of them. By having studied them a good deal I have found out the trouble. They are the mixture of all the bad races on earth, and they get worse from west to east, because the eastern ones have had more crosses.” Geroge S. Patton
I’m more than sick and tired of having the concept of “diversity” jammed down my throat.
And the Congress is not our friend.
I’ll begin to accept the muzzies the day the Catholic Church and the Jewish Synagogues are accepted and are peacefully operating side by side the Mosques in Medina and Mecca. That’s DIVERSITY!!!! Meantime, Get Some!!!
Beer and Pizza for the IDF.
We’re doing it to ourselves. This PC crap is going to be the downfall of our nation.
All muslim immigration in any form to America should have been banned on 12 September 2001. We will eventually pay dearly for this missed opportunity.
This is the same suicidal and stupid PC mentality that will grant amnesty to over 12 million illegal aliens and implement an open borders policy so that those who don’t qualify for a diversity visa can invade our country from our southern and “open” border with Mexico. “Stupid is as stupid does.”
Eden, yes it really is sickening. Two steps forward and one step back thinking. sheesh
JohnE PFC U.S. Army, thank you so much for that quote.
yankeemom, me too I have really had it with this stuff and Congress.
Jack, yes me too and yes Beer and Pizza for the IDF. I love that website and they are so good about sending those things to the IDF.
BobF, yes, who needs to attack us we invite possible attackers to come on in.
Tom, I agree, I was so shocked the first time a few years ago they had another program inviting them in and giving them visa’s and now another one. It is maddness.
Les, yes good point, it is all the same kind of thinking.
When Jimmy Carter let the embassy be taken over in Iran there were 100,000 Iranian students in American Universities. Some were supporters of the former Shah but there was no way if know who was who. 3,400 visas is probably nothing compared to the real numbers.
They say that diversity is mandated by the civil rights laws. It is time to repeal the civil rights laws.
