David Spade Buys High-Powered Rifles for Local Police Department
FOX news
LOS ANGELES
Actor and one-time Phoenix resident David Spade has donated $100,000 to the Phoenix Police Department. The department will use the much needed funds to buy high-powered rifles to defend the city from the growing influence of Mexican drug cartels.
Through his publicist, Spade explained that “these guys need to be able to do their jobs, and I am just happy I could help.”
Spade says he got the idea for the donation after seeing a story on FOX News. Phoenix police say Spade called asking to donate to their rifle program after he saw that officers, outgunned and desperate for more firepower, wanted to buy their own semi-automatic rifles.
“Mr. Spade has stepped forward and has given a gift to our officers of increased safety,” said Police Chief Jack Harris. “I am thrilled that we were able to accept that money that will hopefully bring us to 300 rifles on the street.”
Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Hill says 50 AR-15 rifles to be purchased with the donation will be given to patrol officers.
Spade, 44, grew up in the Phoenix area and graduated from Arizona State University. The “Rules of Engagement” star has helped out cops before, donating $25,000 to the family of a fallen Phoenix police officer last year.
Wild Thing’s comment……..
I heard this story on FOX and was surprised, but Nicholas said that David Spade is politically conservative.
When we still lived in Malibu, Calilf. there was a horrible North Hollywood Shootout. Nicholas and I had just been to that same bank the day before.
1997 North Hollywood Shootout part 2…there are more videos of this at the YouTube site
I heard the officers had trouble taking down Matasareanu even with their rifles because of the trauma plates he wore over his vitals. Those plates were resistant to .223 caliber ammo.
JohnE, I think they blew his legs out from beneath him then he gave up. Then he bled to death.
Because of this particular shootout, all the police agencies I know of in the North Texas area have long guns in each patrol car.
Kudos to David Spade for thinking of the safety of the Phoenix police officers. Wish more celebrities thought along those lines.
TomR, yeah, they shot his legs 11-16 times before he went down. All of the police have Shotguns and AR’s in their cruisers here in South Texas as well. And yes, HOOAH! for David Spade.
“Here’s looking at you….kid…through my site and scope!” – Santa Spade, 2008!
PS: Our local cops are purchasing Army & Navy Store items due to their budget cutbacks… and they’re getting better deals and saving the taxpayers some money! AMEN!!
As a kid a friend’s father was an Idaho state trooper, Jim was a straight arrow cop. He spent long days on the highway, his weekends were spent with the kids, sometimes he’d take my friend and I to the local dump outside of town for some target practice, that was where I fired the Thompson .45 for the first time. Inside the cruiser was the 12 Ga pump, but Jim also carried a Scoped 30-06 inside the trunk, his personal rifle, along with that Tommy gun. His patrol area was Highway 28 in Idaho from Salmon to Idaho Falls, one long stretch of road where he was the law. Years later he died in a gun battle just outside Mud Lake, he was apprehending armed bank robbers and didn’t get the chance to open up the cruiser’s trunk. That rifle or another should have been in the front right next to that 12 Ga in the console rack. There is no reason beyond political correctness that the police can’t use firearms powerful enough to do the job. Texas Rangers and Alaska troopers have my highest respect, but never force their hand. Lowest on my list are those in Seattle, bound by the Eunuch Mayor and City council to be pacifists when a boot up the ass would correct many a domestic problem. Like wise for Darryl Gates and the Special order 40 that hamstrings California law enforcement. Instead of being peace officers they are enforcers, spending too much time writing tickets for non crime events where a verbal warning would suffice, that garners disrespect and far too many disrespect the law and the officers who spend all their time collecting revenues for petty violations. David Spade buying weapons for the police should force some introspection on the governing body that their priorities are FUBAR. I’ve had the AK troopers behind me at a high rate of speed and have slowed down as a result, then they’d pass, motioning to slow down and then keep on going.
Thanks to David for taking action.
Being a resident of North Hollywood, I remember the shoot out as if it were yesterday. I wish bad things for all bad people.
Jimmy Carter was just complaining that the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist organization lacks ‘defense’ against Israel. How come we never hear him, Barack Obama, and their criminal loving liberal friends ever complain about the Phoenix Police Department and other local police departments not having enough high powered weapons to at least match the Mexican drug cartels and other gangs destroying the country?
Kudos to David Spade for taking a leadership role in supporting the police and not our enemies.
