Desperate Obama To TRY and Hit McCain on Keating Scandal

Politico ….for complete article
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Monday will launch a multimedia campaign to draw attention to the involvement of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the “Keating Five” savings-and-loan scandal of 1989-91, which blemished McCain’s public image and set him on his course as a self-styled reformer.
Retaliating for what it calls McCain’s “guilt-by-association” tactics, the Obama campaign is e-mailing millions of supporters a link to a website, KeatingEconomics.com, which will have a 13-minute documentary on the scandal beginning at noon Eastern time on Monday. The overnight e-mails urge recipients to pass the link on to friends.
The Obama campaign, including its surrogates appearing on radio and television, will argue that the deregulatory fervor that caused massive, cascading savings-and-loan collapses in the late ‘80s was pursued by McCain throughout his career, and helped cause the current credit crisis.
Obama’s offensive comes after McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, spent two days telling voters, donors and reporters that Obama showed poor judgment in his relationship with the former radical William Ayers.
McCain’s campaign has vowed to make a major issue of Obama’s Chicago relationships in coming days, with a senior McCain official telling Politico that they are “the vehicle that allows us to question Obama’s truthfulness about his past and his plans for the future.”
The McCain campaign also plans to invoke money launderer Tony Rezko. Officials say they will not bring up Obama’s former minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, because McCain has forbade his campaign from using that as an attack. But the officials said outside groups supporting McCain might highlight Wright.
Responding to the Keating blast from the past, a Republican official said the Obama team seemed “frantic” at “the mere mention of the word ‘Ayers.'”

“The fact that the Obama team is recycling this old garbage 24 hours after Bill Ayers entered the race is a testament to how worried the Obama camp is of an unfettered airing of his associations,” the official said. “Obama is a clever enough politician to know that his unexplored relationships with terrorists and felons are a serious liability in a race this close.”

Wild Thing’s comment……….
LOL I can’t help but laugh at this. Sarah Palin spoke the TRUTH, FOX news special was the TRUTH, New York Times shocking as it was for them to tell the truth they hit Obama with the TRUTH and they have been for Obama all this time.
So how does little Hussein attempt to fight back? With Keating Five trying and lies about what happened. Keep trying Obama you freak!
Keating Five: Alan Cranston (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI)….and John McCain.
Note, four Democrats and one Republican. In doing so, however, we must also note that Robert Bennett, Chief Counsel to the Democrats during the investigation, said that McCain should not be included in the investigation and that their was not evidence of any wrong doing by Senator McCain.
Robert Bennett, a Washington lawyer and big dem, was the special prosecuter for the Keating scandal. He has many times stated that John McCain should never have been included in the Keating 5. And…he’s said this repeatedly within the past year.
In February this year, on Fox News’ “Hannity and Colmes,” Bennett said

“First, I should tell your listeners I’m a registered Democrat, so I’m not on (McCain’s) side of a lot of issues. But I investigated John McCain for a year and a half, at least, when I was special counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee in the Keating Five. … And if there is one thing I am absolutely confident of, it is John McCain is an honest man. I recommended to the Senate Ethics Committee that he be cut out of the case, that there was no evidence against him.”

Both McCain and John Glenn were held blameless. It was really the “Keating Three”, but the Dem Controlled Senate kept McCain and Glenn involved so it would be “bipartisan” scandal.
John McCain apologized to the country for any sign of impropriety AND he led a number of campaigns to get rid of the same sort of bribes.
In the presidential campaign, McCain had confided that his intervention with bank regulators on Keating’s behalf was the worst mistake of his adult life, one that caused him as much anguish as spending five years in a North Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camp. The Arizona Republican said the incident taught him that “the appearance of impropriety” can be as damaging as actual wrongdoing.
McCain and Glenn drawing the lightest reprimands, only a finding that they had shown poor judgment. McCain also agreed to pay back tens of thousands of dollars in personal and campaign largesse from Keating.
If Obama goes after McCain on this, Obama may end up with egg on his face.
McCain’s life has been pretty much an open book, unlke Obama and all the questions surrounding him including his birth certificate, and does have dual citizenship etc.
McCain himself, through his campaign, made it pretty clear today what he intends to do about this. BRAVO!.

“The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers. Americans need to ask themselves if they’ve ever befriended an unrepentant terrorist, or had a convicted felon help them buy their house — because those aren’t smears, those are true facts about Barack Obama.” —Tucker Bounds, spokesman McCain-Palin 2008

Robert Bennett in case it is important for anyone to know is also the borther of radio talk show host and contributor on CNN, Bill Bennett’s brother.
Obamalamadingdong’s negatives are SO MUCH higher than McCain’s! This is just a scare tactic by the Obamatons, and it won’t work. McCain bringing up Ayers, Rezko, and Raila Odinga WILL! Obam-uh-uh-uh SHOULD be scared of negative campaigning.

TomR says:

I wonder why McCain put Wright off limits. Those are damaging videos of Wright preaching hate for America and those videos ant the close association with Rev Wright were very embarassing to Obama.
I think that the public exoneration of McCain by the Keating Five prosecutor will negate Obama’s ads.

Les says:

If this doesn’t wake up McCain nothing will. He better realize that he is at war, Obama is the enemy, and now less than a 30 day surge is required to avoid defeat. It is time for all Republicans, conservatives, and the 527’s to let go with everything that they have against Obama and the Democrats.
Otherwise, this is what happens.

Jack says:

Wake up John, these are your own “MY Friends” that are attacking you personally, Sarah Palin can’t defend you if you refuse to defend yourself. Your lack of will to kick back won’t garner a whit of Democrat support for you if you become president and it won’t aid you if you reenter the Senate. You desperately wanted to be president, the RNC cleared the path of better contenders for you. Nothing is off limits in war as you have learned, this is an internal war of ideologies. You are not in Gai Lam and you don’t need Colonel Bùi Tín to couch or counsel your responses. If you don’t have the stomach for the fight then step aside. Now get off the damned fence and fight for it before the rest of us pull our votes!!!

Mark says:

Johnny Mac has to do some of the heavy lifting here. Sarah Palin has been doing the heavy hitting up til now. Now it is McCains turn. No more mister nice guy.
At some point he has got to realize these people are not his friends. The democrats would just as soon cut his throat as they would talk to him.

darthcrUSAderworldtour07 says:

Did the Keating Five fire bomb police cars and precincts, or plan to blow up Congress, in addition to ‘offing’ ones parents? Hmmmm?

Lynn says:

McCain was cleared on the Keating Five. So was Glenn. But he does need to start doing some very heavy hitting if he wants to win!

Wild Thing says:

Tom, I am hoping they will ad the Wright stuff before it is too late. This is getting down to the wire now.

Wild Thing says:

Les, exactly this could be one of the last times we might have to vote to fight back.

Wild Thing says:

Jack, yes they are not his friends.

Wild Thing says:

Mark, yes I hope he jumps in soon like Tuesday at his next debate.

Wild Thing says:

Darth, good point about that.
I heard stupid O’Reilly tonight ( he is a real apologist for Obama ) O’reilly said….” Obama is not for terrorists”….. I beg to differ, Obama has an association with one thus he is not against terrorists.

Wild Thing says:

Lynn, I agree so much. Sarah can’t do it all and McCain has got to show he wants this win and not be so sweetie sweet yuk.
