Magazine photographer shoots McCain to look like monster
‘Hard-core Democrat’ boasts she tricked candidate into horror pic

When the Atlantic sought a portrait of GOP presidential nominee John McCain for the cover of its October 2008 issue, the magazine called self-described “hard-core Democrat” Jill Greenberg, who took the opportunity to purposefully make McCain look bad, including snapping a shot in which the candidate looms like a horror-movie monster.
“Some of my artwork has been pretty anti-Bush, so maybe it was somewhat irresponsible for them [The Atlantic] to hire me.” – Jill Greenberg
Greenberg, whose website – www.manipulator.com – advertises her heavily retouched photography style, told the editors of Photo District News that she chose to omit even a standard, complimentary retouching of McCain’s photos.
“I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad,” she said.
According to a report in PDNPulse, a professional photography blog by the editors of Photo District News, Greenberg tricked McCain during the photo shoot in early August into thinking he was lit by a modeling light, when in reality, the lighting was rigged from below to make McCain look awful.
The lighting effect caused by a strobe positioned below McCain cast large, dark shadows on the wall behind him, and the camera angle made him look more like actor Boris Karloff in the black-and-white movie Frankenstein than a presidential candidate.
“He had no idea,” said Greenberg in the PDNPulse interview.
Ultimately, the Atlantic didn’t choose the Frankenstein photo, opting for a different cover shot, but Greenberg proudly displays the monster shot on her website and reportedly is hoping to license it to another magazine.
And look at this……………………….

After getting that shot, Greenberg asked McCain to “please come over here” for one more set-up before the 15-minute shoot was over. There, she had a beauty dish with a modeling light set up. “That’s what he thought he was being lit by,” Greenberg says. “But that wasn’t firing.”
What was firing was a strobe positioned below him, which cast the horror movie shadows across his face and on the wall right behind him. “He had no idea he was being lit from below,” Greenberg says. And his handlers didn’t seem to notice it either. “I guess they’re not very sophisticated,” she adds.
The Atlantic didn’t select the diabolical looking McCain for its cover.
Greenberg is hoping to license that image to some other magazine (she negotiated a two-week embargo with The Atlantic so she could re-license images from the shoot before the election).
Warned that the image is just the kind of thing that will stir up the anti-media vitriol in the conservative blogosphere, Greenberg said, “Good. I want to stir stuff up, but not to the point where I get audited if he becomes president.”
That said, she goes on to explain that she’s thought about replacing McCain’s mouth with bloody shark teeth and displaying the image on a billboard with the message that the candidate is a bloodthirsty war monger.
Given her strong feelings about John McCain, we asked whether she had any reservations about taking the assignment in the first place.
“I didn’t,” she says. “It’s definitely exciting to shoot someone who is in the limelight like that. I am a pretty hard core Democrat. Some of my artwork has been pretty anti-Bush, so maybe it was somewhat irresponsible for them [The Atlantic] to hire me.”
There are more photos at this LINK ….just scroll down, they enlarge when clicked on. Totally sick!!! She adds shark teeth and fake blood and another one of an ape going to the bathroom over McCain’s head. disgusting!

Wild Thing’s comment………
It was impossible for Jill Greenburg to set aside her political fanaticism just long enough to be a professional photographer. It’s one thing if she wants a photo to turn her political view on like many of us do with graphics and images all the time. It is another thing to be hired for a job and disrespect that job and the advertisers with the magazine in what she did.
Thank God she was not asked to take Sarah Palin’s photo. I hate to think what she would do with that assignment.
At her site it was very weird. Why on earth would people want photos of crying babies. Adorable precious babies crying,. That is so horrible to me, to make a child cry like at anytime, and it appears she did it just for a phoptograph???? GRRRRRRRRRRRR
Jill Greenburg is an idiot! She doesn’t even take good pictures and did you notice how she looks like that monkey in the picture next to her? Self portrait I assume?
It was wrong of her to act in such a disrespectful way. As an artist, you have certain rights, but you always have the requirement to let the model know what you are doing and why. This shows a lack of decency, maturity, empathy and compassion, among other things.
She will not learn her lesson. She’ll keep on doing rotten things to decent people because people will keep paying her. And she probably makes more than I do.
What a nasty, vile young woman and what a waste of a perfectly good education.
Jill Greenburg, poster girl for the DNC. Guaranteed plenty of White House work if the Obamanation gets in, God Forbid!
Megyn Kelly interviewed or cross examined the editor of Atlantic and ripped him a new one. She did not give him any quarter. She is good.
She is indeed dispicable, I blame McCain for submitting himself to such a photo op. He of all people should know a propaganda set up. Two things stand out, the demonization and venomous hatred of the GOP candidates and the extent of the media’s complicity of personal destruction. They’re pissed because the GOP rank and file have been fighting back the past 10 years, I’m pissed because the ones we placed our trust in have let us down, we didn’t abandon our values and morals, they did. We are in the process of electing fresh ideas and a morality they lack. It’s overwhelmingly threatening to the Marxists in both parties. While we are focused on the front runners we need to also focus on the fresh faces needed to accomplish the reform and remove the bad apples that have rotted the entire barrel. The House is wide open as are some of the Senate seats this November, the president is nothing but a titular figurehead without their support, the Dems have shown us that for the past 8 years in their obstructive bipartisanship. What will it be, more bending over?
Lynn, hahahaha yes she does look like the monkey.
Horace, I bet you are right!!!! Wow I had not even thought about that but yes that is Obama would do they are perfect for each other, like minded.
Mark, oh wow that is great, I have not seen that one. Megyn Kelly is awesome, I am so glad she is on our side.
I posted the one that Megyn Kelly did of the guy with US Weekley magazine. It was fantastic.
Jack, yes and I sure hope where there is a chance to vote in new blood, conservative blood it is done and not apathy and people not being involved.
I agree too on how much the right is hated. Especially their deep hatred for conservatives, but then like Rush said he knows he is doing a good job when they hate him.
McCain should have known even if he is not camera aware just common sense like the flashlight under our chins when we were kids to make us look scary. haha
If I had been McCain I would have said no way babe, I am smarter then that.
It still does not take away from the pos that Jill is but at least it would have let her know I could not be fooled that easily.
You can put lipstick on a Jill Greenberg and it’s still a Jill Greenberg.
WOW…she’s a BULLY. Plain and simple. To make children cry for the sake of a snapshot and to MANIPULATE a man who has given so much for this country and is obviously tired from campaigning (from proper context) speaks volumes of this MOTHER’S value set. This work is all about low blows, which usually indicates a person of low-self esteem. Additionally, it is clear that she LOVES the attention, going so for as to brag about the devious and underhanded means she employed to capture her shots. She names herself appropriately: Manipulator. That’s about the only thing she is dead-on about. She is powerful…in an egocentric and damaging way…much like the way she insinuates McCain and Bush are….hmmmm. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I am all for freedom of speech, but she’s Canadian, isn’t she? Additionally, she purports that she is concerned for the state of the planet/world that we are leaving behind for our children…where we lead they will follow…so where EXACTLY is this woman LEADING with her manipulative messages? Bullies and manipulators are all EGO. Thus, it seems Jill Greenberg is, too. I hope someday she will use her “art” for something more truly powerful…perhaps, raising her children from the heart and not the ego (did she bully her own child/ren for that photo shoot?)? It is unnerving to think that she not only garners so much attention for her “work” but that she is raising children in this context she has woven: That it is ok to intentionally hurt others for the sake of opinion and justify her actions by calling it work or art. It is a theme that runs through much of her work. I believe she hurts others purposefully when threatened, does not take responsibility (perhaps THEY (?) were irresponsible in hiring her?), is disgenuine to her gender, and sends a clear message that she neither trusts nor can be trusted. A shame for her, her family and the people she touches. If she is truly so concerned, she should take a look at herself and her contributions to our global society FIRST.
