One Million Americans Petition Congress to Drill for American Oil

American Solutions for Winning the Future announced today that one million Americans have signed the “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” petition urging Congress to immediately start drilling for American oil to lower gas prices.
The petition reads:
“We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices) by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.”

“The voices of one million Americans are sending a clear message to Congress that we can do more with our huge energy resources here at home,” said Newt Gingrich, American Solutions’ General Chairman. “With hard-working Americans struggling to pay for soaring gas and diesel prices, it’s likely gas prices will be the defining issue in November. Our elected officials have a simple choice: Either take action to drill here and drill now for American oil or the American people will take action this fall.”

This is great news, I am so glad a lot of people are signing the petition. I hope it makes a differnce or I should say impact on those that are brainless and think not to drill is the answer.

This petition is a great foundation for holding Congress and the presidential candidates accountable by declaring Tuesday, November 4, 2008, “National Energy Independence Referendum Day.”
Barack Hussein Obama and John McCain are both Senators. Let them demonstrate that they have the leadership skills to be President by writing and moving to passage (before election day 2008) new energy legislation through the Senate and working with their counterparts in the House to do the same that will:
* Immediately authorize exploration and drilling for oil and gas in ANWR and off of the Atlantic and Pacific outer shelfs.
* Immediately remove regulations that prevent the safe extraction of oil from shale in the lower 48 states.
* Immediately remove regulations that prevent the timely and safe construction of new refineries.
* Immediately remove regulations that prevent the timely and safe construction of new nuclear power plants.
Obama talks about “unity.” McCain talks about his bipartisanship. Let them put their action where their mouth is. If these candidates can’t demonstrate executive leadership for the energy crisis that brings results by November 4, 2008 then why should anyone vote for them? Why trust them to solve any other problem like national security, the economy, health care, and Social Security?
The same goes for the Democratic majority and Republican minority leadership and other elected officials in Congress. If they can’t pass meaningful energy legislation by November 4, 2008 then what good are they?
Let’s declare Tuesday, November 4, 2008, “National Energy Independence Referendum Day” and not reward and vote for candidates and parties who won’t or can’t get the job done.

In less than five months, YOU decide if you want an Oreo or a Cracker? These are the facts and merely stated in black and white. Some of us detest Oreos and Crackers, but the menu has been printed and as for other selections, “Sorry, we’re completely out!” – What’s for desert 2008?
