McCain: It can be “tough” to be proud of USA
WASHINGTON –
Republican presidential candidate John McCain admitted on Saturday it can be difficult at times to be proud of the United States.
“I’ll admit to you … that it’s tough in some respects,” McCain said when asked by a questioner at a town hall meeting how to be proud of the country. “We have not always done things right and we mismanaged the war in Iraq very badly for nearly four years.”
McCain’s wife, Cindy, pounced on Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, for saying in February that she was proud of her country “for the first time in my adult life.”
The Arizona senator said it was important for the United States to be more humble and inclusive.
“I think we can be proud of America because of what we’ve achieved and accomplished in this world,” he said. “What we have to do is tell our friends around the world that we will be proud of America because of what we’re going to do.”
.
Wild Thing’s comment……..
I have always been proud of America. I could not say what Michelle Obama and now John McCain have now said. Not to get votes. not to appease the left, not ever.
McCain is embarrassing!!
As far as countries go, America has by far done more good for more people, than any country that ever existed in human history. I could go on and on how amazing and wonderful my country is and how proud of the USA I am. Not just occasionally but every day of my life.
NOT the politicians no, those have to earn my respect. But that is apples and oranges compared to being proud of my country.
Well to each his own, sorry McCain feels this way no matter how he uses such speech it is harmful. His desire to capture votes from the left and the middle with quotes like this are more fodder for the terrorists and those that hate America around the world.
What is next from the likes of Michelle Obama and McCain….. some one liners from Hanoi Jane handbook? I pray that will not happen!
Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and Rudy G wouldn’t have APOLOGIZED for being an AMERICAN… Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan wouldn’t have either! – The Wind & The Lion 2008! “Reach across the aisle to kiss Hanoi Jane Fonda’s ?” APPEASER now, eh? Or PLEASE HER?
Another distance himself from Bush comment. He is certainly doing all he can to pander to the RINOs and Centerist Libs. Does he really think they will put him over the top ? He can keep reaching across the isle in the vain hope of getting their support, pandering to their base, making promises he intends not to keep, but when it really counts they are going to vote for Obama.
McCain, so far, has done nothing to corral his own base, that of the conservatives, in fact he has managed to alienate them rather than bring them back to his side. This tells me he doesn’t respect Conservatives and gives them little credit for any thought process except what we hear from Rush Limbaugh. Ergo, we are mind numbed Robots and of a single issue minded voting block.
This presumptive thinking on his part and that of the RNC will cost them the election. McCain and the RNC know full well that we will not vote for Obama, so they believe we have no choice but to vote for McCain… therefore a ‘Gotcha.’
Again they are not thinking outside the box, Me personally, I vote regardless, I won’t miss it, but others just won’t bother. Which goes back to the old saying of disaffected voters, ‘Well, its only one vote and it don’t matter.’ When these numbers grow to a magnitude of 100/1000 fold it makes a huge difference.
This non-sense peddelded by McCain, The Economy, Immigration, and the appeasement he is digging a hole deeper and deeper. He should stop digging for one but he won’t.
If anyone ever tried to lose an election
McCain is doing a first rate job of it.
Well what great fodder for the liberal Obama- AND his devoted herd of Democratic sheep!! McCain seems to care less if he wins or not-!He also said something like I would rather lose my campaign than lose the war- –DUH– If you lose the campaign- you will have lost the war!! Okay– I am dumbfounded! Why so nice Mc Cain? Can you get a little meaner? I have heard he has bad temper that most not be true. I would like for him to get fired up and actually resemble a Presidental candidate that loves the United States and cares about the people that live in it.
What worries me is if McCain believes what he says. He has a reputation for pandering to an audience for votes. McCain is so confusing I don’t know for sure where he stands on many issues. The only thing I can do is look at his voting record. I don’t like most of his voting record although even that shows that he contradicts himself sometimes.
I think John McCain really is mad.
Darth, I agree so much, they would never have said such a thing no matter what.
Sure we all get disgusted with things that happen, bills that are passed etc. But ne ver with the country itself. We are blessed to live here and be Americans.
Mark, I agree!!
November feels more and more like dooomsday. waaaaa
I am alwasy so excited to be able to vote and now I am dreading it.
Cheryl, your right and they will use it if they want to too. deep sigh, I wish McCain would just not talk so much. hahaha
Tom, yes we will never know if what he says he believes or is just saying it.
Only if he blew his stack backing up what he says like he has done to the POW groups and families, and those not wanting amnesty. He truly believed what he said about those things and blew his temper proving it.
Too bad we don’t have one more choice. hahahaa oh sigh hugh ole sigh
Of all the stupid things that McCain could say, this one takes the cake. How could he? It looks like he is doing everything that he can to snatch defeat from the hands of victory.
For the record, it is “easy” to be proud of the USA. The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and the contributions that everyone before us made to the country make it “easy”.
