Legal and Illegal Immigrant Surge Leads U.S. Toward Half Billion People

Immigrants and their children will account for more than half the country’s population growth over the coming half-century, according to a study released Thursday.
The examination of new census figures by the Center for Immigration Studies found U.S. population levels, currently around 300 million, will shoot up to 468 million by 2060. California alone could be home to more than 60 million.
Immigrants – both legal and illegal – as well as their descendants are expected to make up about 105 million, or 63 percent, of the national increase.

“It’s important to understand where we’re headed in population size and why. The why is largely, but not exclusively, immigration,” said Steven Camarota, author of the report.

The Center for Immigration Studies, a D.C.-based think tank, openly advocates immigration restrictions. While demographers across the ideological spectrum verified the group’s numbers, opinions vary on what they mean for America’s future.
William A.V. Clark, a geography professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, called 468 million “a really huge number, and it’s being driven by immigration, there’s no doubt about that.”
Neither politicians nor city planners are preparing for or even discussing immigration’s impact on population growth, he said.
Meanwhile, the impact in California, which is home to about 10 million foreign-born, will be particularly acute.

“If you think the 405 is bad now, it won’t be moving unless they put a double-decker bus on it,” Clark said.

“This is like the elephant in the bathtub,” he said. “We’re not building the infrastructure for the population we have now, much less this kind of growth.”

But Jeff Passell, spokesman for the Pew Hispanic Center, which also is preparing population projections based on immigration, noted that without newcomers the U.S. could not have a growing labor force.
Dowell Myers, a professor of urban planning at USC, agreed.
Myers studies aging trends and called immigration part of the solution to the graying of America.
He noted that the ratio of senior citizens to working-age people will go up 30 percent in the next decade and spike another 30 percent after that.

“That is the central policy question America has to solve, and we have to solve it now,” he said. Because foreigners who come to the U.S. tend to be young, he said, immigration can reduce the aging problem by about a quarter.

Myers also cast doubts on the study, noting that the analysis hinges on the assumption that fertility and immigration rates will both remain high.
Currently, the nation sustains an immigration rate of about 1.2 million annually, according to the study. Researchers based their projections partly on the past five decades, during which there has been a net immigration increase.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
It seems we are becoming the wretched refuse of our own teeming shores. The RATs must love this! More votes for more socialism.
Regarding the illegals in this growth:
Invasion: \In*va”sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

Look at all of those 2008 illegal DNC voters!

Lynn says:

These people are NOT taught what invasion means.
They’re told from childhood that their government is so corrupt that they’ll never make it in Mexico, so go to America as soon as you can.
My hubby saw a saying one day that he liked–Canada is America’s cap–Mexico is America’s underpants.
And they also don’t know that pushing your views onto citizens of another land will just piss them off. You wouldn’t poke a stick at a rattle snake would you?
We have to get together now because it may already be too late.

Mark says:

63% of the population, can you imagine what our tax base would be to pay for all those new democrat voters ?
The big companies would have their workforce, El CheapO, and we will have a Welfare Bill that would dwarf todays budget.

BobF says:

I have no problem with Legal Immigrants and welcome them to our shores. My grandparents were Legal Immigrants and because of such, I’m an American.
A Legal Immigrant isn’t going to work for slave wages as they have the law on their side. Illegal Immigrants will work for slave wages and corrupt employers know it.
Legal Immigrants come here with strong work and family ethics but it won’t take Democrats long to corrupt their values. People who believe in hard work and that a person should pay their own way in life aren’t Democrats but Conservatives. Unfortunately, in many cases, they don’t pass these values on to their children.

Mark says:

Me too. I am tired of seeing Illegals telling me that I owe them something all because they broke into my house and didn’t get caught.
I am tired of seeing OUR flag burned, stomped on the ground and spit on and am especially tired of that green POS being raised in place of ‘Old Glory’.
I am tired of Illegals killing our citizens, whether it is with a car during a drinking binge or a flat out gang land type slayings. I am also tired of Mexican Child Molesters, rapist thugs and drug dealers running rampant in OUR country.
I am tired of some mamby-pamby liberal declaring their city a sancturary for Illegals.
I am tired of Our President not taking the Leadership to put up the damn fence, that would help keep the Illegals out. Also am tired of Calderon running the US Government.
And I am especially tired of Jerry Rivers aka, Geraldo Riveria Telling me how tough the “Illegal immigrant” has it. As far as I am concerned Geraldo’s credibility went down the toilet with Al Capones empty Vault.

TomR says:

I’m glad I won’t be around to be just an insignificant sardine in a crowded socialist can. But, I hate to see how America is being sold out and changed from her 200+ yr tradition of Anglo-Saxon, Christian values to a wandering aimlessly multi-cultural land of warring tribes, not unlike the county we are supposedly trying to reform from just that culture now, Iraq.
I also am not against legal immigration. However, we don’t need it in increasing numbers and we certainly don’t need to invite immigrants from nations that are unfriendly to America. We also don’t need immigrants who will most likely get on welfare and stay on welfare or those who will remain unassimilated in enclaves of their own cultures.

Les says:

The illegal alien story is simple. They break the law to come here, they break more laws to stay here, and in many cases commit the most vile crimes including rape and murder. They are law breakers!
What imprint does this unpunished mass law breaking by 10 to 20 million illegal aliens leave on the country? It leaves the message that if millions of people break the law and the government doesn’t give a damn then it is OK for other people, including citizens, to pick and choose what laws they can ignore and break.
This is just the message that all of the young people of the country needs to hear as they make choices on alcohol, drugs, sex, guns, reckless driving, and other activities that may be against laws that they don’t believe in. The adult’s action (or lack thereof) speaks louder than their words. It is OK to break the law.
The United States is no longer an immigration melting pot, it is a multi-cultural diversity boiling pot with no respect for the core values that made this country great. Woe is us! Islam may be right. We are infidels.

Les says:

One more thought. As I understand it, an Army Division consists of 10,000 to 20,000 soldiers. There are an estimated 10 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States. So, that’s roughly equivalent to 1,000 Divisions. Sounds like an INVASION to me.

Robert says:

Speaking from the Front…California.
The invasion is in full swing, SEND HELP!
Now that Mexican Trucks will be free flowing into our nation the invasion will undoubtedly be bolstered by reinforcements on a grand scale..
How many illegals can you get into a big rig trailer? they’ll be packing em in like sardines.

Wild Thing says:

Lynn that saying you shared about says a lot about how it is.
I agree pushing us into all of this, pushing their views and demands really sends me reeling.

Wild Thing says:

Darth, yes pathetic, I don’t get why our guys don’t get their wanting illegals here means they will only vote Dem. anyway. Too weird.

Wild Thing says:

Mark, pretty scary.

Wild Thing says:

Bob, your right, it is a lot different how your and all of our families on here treated coming to America.
I don’t think anyone on here has a problem with legal immigrants that appreciate what this country offers in Freedom and a chance to do well and work hard.
My grandparents came here from Switzerland. Nick’s parents came here from Greece.
It is the amount of illegals (mixed in) and how their numbers will increase our population, and all that goes with it.
When I post about all of this it is only in relationship to illegals. I am totally against the illegals coming in under any circumstances. To me that is a slap in the face to all those like your family and mine that did it the legal way.

Wild Thing says:

Mark, great comment, you included so much of it, thank you. Well said.

Wild Thing says:

Tom, that is what Nick says too.He is glad he is the age he is and that he had a different America then the future looks like it will be down the road.

Wild Thing says:

Les, thanks, that is a great way of stating it by the numbers compared to our troops.

Wild Thing says:

HI Robert good to see you.
I wish I could send help. haha I lived in Calif. for 27 years and Nick for 38 or something like that. He was there when the San Fernando Valley was only orange groves. So he saw a lot of changes.
