AG Eric Holder won’t Assure Sen. Mark Kirk the DOJ does not “Spy” on Members of Congress
Obama Attorney General Eric Holder would not assure Sen. Mark Kirk that the Department of Justice has not spied on members of Congress! Kirk asked, in light of revelations that the Obama National Security Agency is getting daily information on calls made by more than 100 million Verizon customers:
Sen. Kirk: “Could you assure to us that no phones inside the Capitol were monitored of members of Congress, that would give a future Executive Branch if they pull this kind of thing up, unique leverage over the Legislature?”
Holder’s response: “With all due respect Senator, I don’t think this is an appropriate place. . .”
Sen. Kirk then shot back: “The correct answer would be ‘No, we stayed within our lane, and I’m assuring you we did not spy on Members of Congress.’”
