Santorum Loses

.

by Rich Lowry at National Review
Rick Santorum’s night was defined by explaining why he voted for things he opposed (NCLB, Title X). He’s right that politics is a “team sport” (at least most of the time), but that’s not the best posture to be defending when you’re occupying his slot in a Republican presidential primary. He didn’t know when to let go on the earmark discussion, which he couldn’t possibly win. He gave the best possible defense of his Specter endorsement, but as Romney said it was convoluted. Again and again Santorum got tangled up in his Senate record. Overall, he was too defensive, too insider, too complicated.
Romney came loaded to bear with oppo and was deft enough to use it effectively, catching Santorum, for instance, apparently having it both ways on Title X.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
imo Romney was the best in the debate last night. Santorum while others spoke would make a lot of weird faces. He behaved like a spoiled child when confronted. Newty had some funny lines and so did Ron Paul.
There was almost a feeling of relilef from all of them that this debate would be the last one for awhile. I can imagine they are all sick of the debates. I sure would be. hahaha

Ron Paul nailed Sanatorium good when Sanatorium said he voted for some legislation he didn’t like because he was a team player. Paul said he understood being a team player but what about your Oath of Office.
All the candidates told us what the want to do and why. I hate to say it but Gingrich was the only one who not only told us the what and why but also how he would do it.
I felt both Romney and Gingrich did good. Romney explained a few things more and shed light on questions I had about him.
I wouldn’t want Ron Paul for president but I believe he could play a major roll is getting spending under control and bringing our government back in line with the Constitution.
I felt Sanatorium’s reason for supporting Arlin Specter was one of the lamest excuses I ever heard. A Republican was going to head the Judicial committee no matter what happened to Specter. To throw a Conservative under the bus to support a liberal RINO is inexcusable. Don’t even try to pass yourself off as a Conservative after doing that.

Bob, great run down of the debate, thank you sooooo much.
