“If you were looking for a bunch of partisan rhetoric, I’m probably not your guy,” President Obama said at a fundraiser in Miami.
MIAMI, Fla. —
A low-dollar fundraiser here Monday felt like a throwback to the 2008 campaign.
There was the same old soundtrack – including “City of Blinding Lights” by U2, the president’s 2008 anthem — the enthusiastic organizers and the abundant appeals for supporters to rally behind President Obama.
The one missing element? Overflowing crowds.
Granted, it was a fundraiser, not a free rally. But the empty seats were hard to miss.
The top level of the 2,200-seat concert hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts was entirely empty, as were the seats along the side of the second and third levels.
980 Tickets were sold.
Tickets for the Gen 44 event started at $44, the official said.
“This is going to be a very tough fight,” said Alonzo Mourning, the former Miami Heat player, who spoke ahead of the president. Once Obama took the stage, a protester interrupted him at one point, repeatedly yelling: “Keep your promise, stop AIDS now.” But the protester was quickly drowned out by the audience chanting, “Obama, Obama, Obama.”
“The reason we’re here today is because our work’s not done,” Obama said after hushing the crowd. “Our work is not complete. We’re not at the summit. We’re just part way up the mountain. There is more to do.”
He didn’t directly address the protester’s issue.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
The chutzpah of this guy is simply astonishing. This guy is living in Bizarro World.
Stop Aids Now! This is the whole problem . Too many people demand government do everything for them. they can’t even control their own behavior, whose responsibility is it to stop Aids. Theirs it aint the government’s.
I wonder how much of a problem this will be for the Military…
Most of the 980 seats were probably bought by local unions for members bused in for a day’s pay without working.
He leaves Miami for Democrat friendly Puerto Rico for some support off shore, but they can’t even vote for him.
He may raise some money with some deep pocket liberals and unions, but popular enthusiasm for this President is sinking fast.
By contrast, Sarah Palin could fill the 2,200 seat Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami at a single book signing event with a line around the block outside in the humid rainy season of South Florida on a June work day. And she’s not even running.
Also I read a story where the Alabama Tornado Storm victims have been refused FEMA aid because they did not receive enough damage. The guy in the article had his foundation, one row of cinder blocks where his house use to stand, and they are calling us racists. the Man is white and hasn’t receicved a nickle for damages. Before FEMA how did we rebuild ? We did it on our own, and the government stayed the hell out of our business. Where’s the rotten State Run Media shining the light of truth on this, no where to be found, of course.
Mark, I agree, it really is amazing to me how the left wants to make our governement responsible for their personal lives, they want bigger and bigger government.
Carlos, I had not thought of that, I bet your right about the Unions.
Mark, oh my gosh, I had not heard about that. Thank you for sharing.
