The Impact OBAMA’S Drilling Moratorium One Year After The Gulf Oil Spill ~ Obama Energy Policy Endangers Economy

“The equipment that used to be earning revenue for us is now sitting in my yard”…”We just want to go back to work”

Heritage Foundation
Heritage Foundation recently returned to the Gulf Coast to hear from business owners.
One year ago today, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico cost the lives of 11 men and threatened untold damage to the ecosystem. It was an unprecedented disaster, and the tragic loss of life it entailed made it all the more imperative that such an accident never repeat itself.
In the immediate aftermath of the catastrophe, the disaster response proved heroic: The crew of a Tidewater supply vessel rescued the 115 survivors of the explosion in little more than an hour.
And as The Wall Street Journal reports today, the effects of the Obama Administration’s response to the spill are more apparent now than ever, with offshore oil production down 13 percent and crude oil prices up 33 percent.
Following the disaster, the White House’s response seemed to become little more than a thin cover for the enactment of an economically crippling energy agenda. In May, President Obama issued a six-month moratorium on all deepwater drilling. In June, a federal judge struck it down, calling it “arbitrary and capricious,” not justified by the Gulf’s safety record. A few weeks later, in defiance of the judge, the Administration reissued the moratorium. The judge held the Administration in contempt.
Heritage Foundation produced a video featuring Leslie Bertucci, owner of R and D Enterprises. She welcomed us to her warehouse with a weary smile, handed us hard hats and cheerfully guided us through her equipment yard, even as she explained the difficulties she’s endured since the spill — most especially as a result of the offshore drilling moratorium and the subsequent slowdown in deepwater permits.
Bertucci is a hard-working mother of six, who, with her husband, built her business from its start in a spare bedroom of her home to the industrial campus it is today. She says the drilling moratorium has caused her company’s revenue stream to all but dry up. R and D Enterprises supplies equipment to transport chemicals to and from deepwater oil rigs. When those rigs aren’t allowed to drill, R and D’s equipment sits idle in Bertucci’s once-empty-but-now-full equipment yard

Wild Thing’s comment……..
UNFORGIVABLE!!!!!
We need to keep reminding people that this all has to be laid at the feet of obama. He is to blame for the loss of jobs, and rise in gas prices.
And this happened yesterday….see video below. I saw it on TV and it made me furious the way obama tells the audience to think more in terms of windmillls and solar for cars instead of drilling for oil, gas . etc. Damn him!!!!!!

Mark says:

Obama is crippling the U.S. Economy by the moritorium on drilling. Gas prices are expected to rise to 6 dollars a gallon. If there is any progress made toward a recovery, this will surely short circuit any positive results.

TomR, armed in Texas says:

obama should set an example by staying in the White House and quit travelling around the world with his armada of aircraft and fleet of limos. Maybe he should demand a Kia or Prius as a presidential limo.

Jim says:

Not much activity in the Prudhoe Bay field either. Pretty frickin’ slow up here. Shell was going to drill offshore and the company I work for had some of that work lined up. Then the moratorium happened. Shell shelved those plans. Nabors drilling has no work either. Pretty bleak.

Weldon Gainey says:

This POS is so far out he has no idea of auto gas mileage. “A clunker” that gets 8 mpg hasn’t been around for years. His armored limo get about that mileage! He will do anything, say anything, tell a lie in a heart beat to his base kool-aid drinkers for a vote! He should be impeached and jailed for the damage he has done to this nation and her people.

Wild Thing says:

Thank you all for your comments about this.
Tom, LOL that would be so funny. “Maybe he should demand a Kia or Prius as a presidential limo.”
