Interior Secretary Says White House Opposes Drilling in Arctic Because It Will Not Lead to Energy Independence
CNSNews
When asked why the Obama administration opposes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) given the rising cost of gasoline, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told CNSNews.com that the “drill, baby, drill program” is not going to lead the United States to energy independence.

“We don’t believe that you need to drill everywhere and we don’t believe that the ‘drill, baby, drill’ program is the way that’s going to get us to the energy independence that we need for America or that will power our economy and that’s why the President has been so clear from day one and we in the Department of Interior have been so clear that what we need to do is need to have a robust energy program that includes a number of different sources of energy and while yes, we are pushing forward with oil and gas development both offshore and onshore which was the subject of much of the hearing today, we’re also moving forward with renewable energy,” he told CNSNews.com after testifying before the House Natural Resources Committee about his Department’s FY2012 budget.

“The President has said we are supporting nuclear, we’re support other clean air energy forms and at the end of the day, this is a place where there is hope that perhaps some of the Republicans in the House would come together and say that we can move forward with energy legislation that moves us into this new energy future.”

Salazar was also asked what the White House is saying about drilling in the Gulf.

“What I say is what the White House would say and that is that we are moving forward with an effort to stand up oil and gas drilling in the deep oceans of the gulf and are doing it in a safe and orderly way and that’s reflected in the budget request that we were defending for the President today,” he said.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
Obama is totally about punishing America for it’s past success, and making sure it can never happen again.
We all know that if our country could drill in the Artic and anywhere else our nation has where there would be oil……we would be independent and not only that but can you just imagine the low price of gasoline for Americans.

Mark says:

It won’t ??? Since when since Jimmy Carter we have become more and more dependent on foreign oil not independent, we haven’t built a new refinery in over 35 years, now this dumbshit insist we can’t drill anywhere, and the rest of the world is passing us by this is A FLAT OUT LIE. Nobody in the world is taking this Green Crap seriously except obama, now why is that? It sure as hell aint because he actually knows something no one else does, he goal is the total destruction of the country and the bastard is right on target.

BobF says:

Obama and his Democraps are doing all they can to bring this nation to its knees.

TomR, armed in Texas says:

Our coal, oil and gas reserves WOULD make us energy independent. obama is lying through his muslim teeth. I think the next big crisis may be lack of refinery capacity. As Mark points out we have not built a refinery in over 35 years.

Jim says:

I was listening to Eric Erikson on the radio. His theory on the push for hi-speed rail was to get everyone in the cities and out of the suburbs and country. I’m seeing news stories about FEMA revising their flood maps across the country. This may make it harder to buy a house in a lot of areas. Plus you would have to buy flood insurance. But I’m sure there’s no ulterior motive….
Think back to the cold war days and films of the Soviet Union. Everyone was warehoused near their job. No cars on the roads. The few farmers they had were absolutely dirt poor. It seems we’re being pushed in this direction. Like the frog in the pot of water.

Rhod says:

The expression “energy independence” is to a Greenie what a food pellet is to a trained pigeon, and why the word “oil” is like an electric shock to a rat. They’re conditioned to “think” the way their masters want them to think.
Here in CT a town coucil nearby is arguing about the construction of TWO huge windmills in a residential area. It might be a good idea on its own merits, but the nitwit Greens argue that it will bring “green jobs” to the town and be a step away from fossil fuels that are “crippling our economy”. That’s their case…
I’m losing IQ points just quoting them.

gator says:

We are now into the eighth Administration since the Arab Oil Embargo without a workable energy policy..
What does that tell us?? 2 things, one, Republican or Democrat the oil companies own their crooked A$$
Secondly you just can’t fix stupid. But the previous administration Gave us NCLB. Like I said you just
Can’t fix stupid….Barack, you keep the change…

Wild Thing says:

Mark, wow 35 years, amazing and shocking.
Bob, they sure are and I keep reminding people if I hear one person even mention the price of gas, I let them have it on who is at fault for that.
Tom, just reading that makes me happy, if only it would happen right now. “Our coal, oil and gas reserves WOULD make us energy independent”
Jim, thanks for all of that and that is a good example too about the frog.
Rhod, good grief, and I heard too the windmills make a lot of noise. Good to see you Rhod.
Gator, yes it has been many in both parties that cave in to the enviros on this. I hope and pray we get someone like Sarah that will push for drilling.
