Former Texas Governor Rick Perry has been confirmed by the Senate as secretary of the Department of Energy

The Senate on Thursday confirmed former Texas Gov. Rick Perry as the next energy secretary, as lawmakers stepped up the pace of filling President Trump’s Cabinet.
The Senate confirmed Perry on a 62-37 vote following a brief floor debate. Earlier in the day, the Senate also confirmed retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson for housing secretary.
Eleven Democrats supported Perry in the final vote, including Sens. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, Mark Warner of Virginia, Tom Carper of Delaware and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
