Sen. Feinstein: US Soldiers Should Not Be Bannd From Gun Control Laws – They May Have PSTD
At a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting on Thursday, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) opposed an amendment to her Assault Weapons Ban legislation that would allow military veterans to continue to buy the firearms that would be banned. Feinstein says a veteran may be mentally ill and should be prevented from purchasing firearms.

If I understand this, this adds an exemption of retired military. As I understand our bill, no issue has arose in this regard during the 10 years the expired ban was in effect and what we did in the other bill was exempt possession by the United States or a department or agency of the United States. So that included active military.

The problem with expanding this is that, you know, with the advent of PTSD, which I think is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War, it’s not clear how the seller or transferrer of a firearm covered by this bill would verify that an individual was a member, or a veteran, and that there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this.

Sheesh, she needs to walk the plank!

BobF says:

I’ve been talking about something similar to this with many of my fellow military friends. PTSD is classified as a mental illness or mental or disorder. GI’s who served in Iraq or Afghanistan are being told to claim PTSD when they separate from the military. All they have to do is meet two conditions: Serve in the war zone and have a shrink confirm your claim. Although many do have PTSD, many others are claiming it for the disability check from the VA. Now, the shooters in Tucson and Colorado both were treated for mental illness but bought their guns legally because the mental health databases were not linked to the Federal Instant Check or any other systems used for background checks. Once those systems link up, any Veteran claiming PTSD will most likely be denied their right to purchase firearms. Like one combat vet said, “like Esau, they sold their birthright for a pot of portage”.

Bob – exactly my thought. I know two guys that claimed and were awarded PTSD compensation. They did it for the money. I told them 10 yrs. ago that it might come back to haunt them. I have sent this video to one of them. He is worried anyway as he heard some politicians want to revoke CHLs of people diagnosed with PTSD.
