House Rejects Ban on Sex-Selection Abortions
The House voted today to reject a measure that would have banned sex-selection abortions in the United States, pitting Republicans and Democrats in a showdown over a woman’s right to choose, which opponents contended was “intended to chip away at woman’s right to obtain safe, legal medical care.”
The measure, known as the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA), was defeated 246-178. Under suspension of the House rules to permit consideration of the bill more quickly, approval of the measure was subject to a two-thirds majority, and with 414 members voting Republicans fell 30 votes short of passage.
The bill was perceived by Democrats as political maneuver to coax liberal lawmakers into supporting the bill or face the prospect of an onslaught of campaign advertisements this fall highlighting a lawmaker’s vote to support sex-selection abortions.
Still, only 20 Democrats took the bait and broke from their party to vote with the majority of Republicans. Seven GOPers opposed the measure.
House rejected H.R. 3541 The Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA), sponsored by AZ Republican Trent Franks, which would have made it a federal crime for a doctor to perform an abortion based on the gender or race of the fetus. The bill required a two-thirds majority vote and was defeated in a final vote of 246-168. There were 20 Democrats who voted in favor of the bill and 7 Republicans who opposed it. Thirty more votes were needed to pass the bill.
Republicans ( assholes) that voted against the bill were Ron Paul (Texas), Justin Amash (Mich.), Charlie Bass (N.H.), Mary Bono Mack (Calif.), Robert Dold (Ill.), Richard Hanna (N.Y.) and Nan Hayworth (N.Y.)
Democrats voting in favor were Jason Altmire (Pa.), John Barrow (Ga.), Dan Boren (Okla.), Jim Cooper (Tenn.), Jerry Costello (Ill.), Mark Critz (Pa.), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), John Garamendi (Calif.), Tim Holden (Pa.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Daniel Lipinski (Ill.), Stephen Lynch (Mass.), Jim Matheson (Utah), Mike McIntyre (N.C.), Collin Peterson (Minn.), Nick Rahall (W.Va.), Silvestre Reyes (Texas), Mike Ross (Ark.) and Heath Shuler (N.C.).

Wild Thing’s comment…….
If any of these people are in your state I would suggest an email sent or if you are on Facebook, go to their page and let them know how you feel about this.
Mary Bono Mack is quite a disappointment. She represnets a conservative district in California and those folks need to let go of their sediment for Sonny and elect a real conservative. I cannot remember what it was but she and a couple other RINO’s supported Obama in something else.
Bob, I agree, she has been a huge disappointment.
