Billionaire Sheldon Adelson, Who Is Backing Gingrich Relays Assurances To Romney Camp That He Will Support The Governor Should He Become the Nominee
LAS VEGAS — Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino executive keeping Newt Gingrich’s presidential hopes alive, has relayed assurances to Mitt Romney that he will provide even more generous support to his candidacy if he becomes the Republican nominee, several associates said in interviews here.
The signals from Mr. Adelson, whose politics are shaped in large part by his support for Israel, reflect what the associates said was his deep investment in defeating President Obama and his willingness to play a more prominent role in the Republican Party and conservative causes.
Several people who have spoken with Mr. Adelson over the past two weeks said he would most likely continue to help the group as long as Mr. Gingrich remained in the race. But, they said, he is concerned that additional deep-pocketed donors have not joined him. And, they said, his affection for and loyalty to Mr. Gingrich, who met with him here on Friday, have not blinded him to the reality that the nominating contest is tilting in Mr. Romney’s favor.
“He saw a friend who needed and wanted help,” said an associate who talks to Mr. Adelson regularly, speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid upsetting him. “I don’t think it’s likely that he’s going to fund Newt’s death march to Tampa,” the site of the Republican National Convention, “but if there is a realistic perception that he can help make his candidacy viable, he will.”
Mr. Adelson declined to be interviewed.

Wild Thing’s comment……
LOL I got on a roll and put all the items about the Nevada Caucus in one post. haha
Today is the SUPERBOWL Have an awesome day and I hope the team you are for wins.
Romney gave a really good speech, Newt held some kind of a weird press conference and he used it attack Romney, over and over and over. Other then that on to the next one.
Gingrich is toast. So is Paul,as for Santorum, he’s living in fantasy land.
Interesting comment regarding Mr. Adelson, as to his main priority is support for Israel. That all but guarantees him financing anyone but the Muslim in the White House.
I think that it is about time that the prominent members of the Tea Party Movement, and other “super conservative” folks of influence, have a serious sit down with Romney and his staff. They need to tell him what needs to be done to get a group of voters, Republicans, Independents and Reagan Democrats, on board.
If he is smart enough to do this then he will most likely win. If he only provides lip service to these groups, he will have a very tough row to hoe.
The swing voters will decide this election, as they always do. Unless they are provided with some viable alternatives, there is no guarantee as to which way they will go.
I’m so tired of this primary cycle. I really don’t have a horse in this race, so I occasionally just take a day and purposely ignore what is going on. Gingrich’s nasty temper tantrum attacks on Romney are just providing ammo for obama. Screw them all. Yesterday I ordered another few cases of ammo for my bunker. Also taking some cash out of my non productive savings account and buying some silver.
Sean, that is exactly what would be so great to do. I agree with you about Newt and Santorum and like you said it would be great to have the Tea Party and conservatives etc. have a sit down with Romney. I wish they would try I have a feeling he might do it and listen. He is smart and in his speeches he has made the last few wins of his one can tell he does love America unlike Obama. Funny too how he is less filled with the ego thing then Newt and even Santorum too.
Tom, I agree the primary is so long,it does wear out a person emotionally as well as just plain ole energy and exhaustion too.
That is one of the reasons I have cut back on doing a ton of posts each day. It is just so much overload of information and campaigning.
