In February 2009, his second month in office, Barack Obama changed official policy to allow photos of dead US soldiers.
The LA Times
U.S. soldiers killed in combat in Afghanistan or Iraq have returned from the battlefield via Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. As their flag-draped caskets came off the plane, no news photographers were allowed to witness the scene, no reporters were allowed to interview families.
The policy was initiated by the first President Bush during the first Gulf War, and it was continued by the second President Bush, who always said the ban on cameras was designed to protect the privacy of military families.
Now the Obama administration has decided to open the gates of Dover. In a policy to be unveiled today, Pentagon officials told reporters, Defense Secretary Robert Gates — the only holdover from the Bush administration — will announce that news photos of flag-draped coffins will be allowed, as long as families agree.
But, this week Barack Obama announced that he would not release photos of dead Osama Bin Laden.

The White House
“There are sensitivities here in terms of the appropriateness of releasing photos of Osama Bin Laden… because of the sentitivities… Does it serve or harm our interests domestically and locally. It could be inflammatory.”
Wild Thing’s comment……
All we hear is that the Muslims sensibilities will be hurt, well how about the thousands who have gone into harms way to fight these terrorists and the ones who paid the ultimate price? I think giving OUR side a Moral boost is NOT A CRIME! For 10 years we have been Hunting this Monster down and now they wont show his picture? I agree with Rush Limbaugh, the Navy seals should have put a pair of womens underwear on his head and the picture would have been on the front Page of the New York Times Blood or not.
There are already photos floating around claiming to be OBL, is that not just as inflammatory? Killing this cretin isn’t that inflammatory? What the hell is wrong with the left. They do one good thing out of maybe a thousand and then turn around and apologize for it. Spike the damn ball.
Gee, maybe we need to start reacting like Muslims do when things take place they don’t like. When they burn an American Flag or a bible, we need to react like they do in Afghanistan.
Screw islam, muslims and our White House muslim.
Mark, I agree, and it is extra bad for the terrorists to see this wishie washie stuff from the left.
Bob, that would really be something.
Tom, ditto all you said.
