Obama Backtracks on Promise That Americans Will Be Able to Keep Their Doctors

White House Backtracks on Promise That Americans Will Be Able to Keep Their Doctors
Majority of Americans Worry Government-Run Health Care Would Lead to Loss of Their Health Care Plans
Washington, Jun 24 – During the campaign and throughout the ongoing health care “reform” debate, President Obama has made a promise to the American people – one that he repeated in a speech to a convention of the American Medical Association last week: “No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people. If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”
Now that the Democrats’ health care plan has been brought into greater focus, that promise doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. A Lewin Group study confirms that under a new government-run health plan more than 100 million Americans may lose their current health care coverage and be forced onto government rolls. Last week, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that 23 million Americans would lose their current plans if a Senate Democratic health care “reform” bill was enacted. As a result, the White House began to walk back from its promise, with the Associated Press reporting, “White House officials suggest the president’s rhetoric shouldn’t be taken literally.” At his news conference yesterday, the President continued the reversal, answering a question about the promise with some rather tortured language:

JAKE TAPPER, ABC NEWS: “I’m sorry, but what about keeping your promise to the American people that they won’t have to change plans even if employers –“

THE PRESIDENT: “Well, no, no, I mean – when I say if you have your plan and you like it and your doctor has a plan, or you have a doctor and you like your doctor that you don’t have to change plans, what I’m saying is the government is not going to make you change plans under health reform.”

In an interview today on Good Morning America, the backtracking continued, with the President telling ABC’s Diane Sawyer, “I can’t pass a law that says, ‘I’m sorry, employers, you can never make changes to the health care plans that you provide your employees.’” In other words, the Administration has gone from “If you like your plan, you get to keep it” to “Well, we really can’t promise much of anything.” That’s “change” alright – but not exactly the type of change Americans were hoping for during this new era in Washington.
The reason this broken promise is especially painful for the Administration is because it underscores just the real fear Americans have about a government takeover of health care. Today’s Washington Post reports:

“Part of the reason so many are nervous about future changes is a fear they may lose what they currently have. More than eight in 10 said they are satisfied with the quality of care they now receive and relatively content with their own current expenses, and worry about future rising costs cuts across party lines and is amplified in the weak economy.”

No wonder Washington Democrats are doing anything and everything they can to NOT answer questions about how and why tens of millions of Americans will lose their current plan under Democratic versions of health care “reform.”

Wild Thing’s comment……
OK can anyone help me on this????
I do NOT understand this at all.
We have read that some 85 % and I am included in that, because I am just fine with the health insurance we have. VERY happy with it. I don’t understand how they ( OBAMA) and the media can lie like they do and make it sound like almost all of America is desperate for socialized medicine. This has got to be the biggest lie that has ever been told by any politician in our country since the first day ships landed here to make this the new homeland.
I swear this is so vile so horrible for them to do this when most people do not want it. And I also don’t get why the Republican politicians are falling for it too. Can’t they fight back and make the left tell the truth that most people don’t want it instead of feeling that they have to come up with their own version of socialized medicine LITE?
Maybe I am wrong and if I am please help me because I honestly do not get it.

….Thank you Mark for sending this to me.

Lynn says:

We didn’t watch this. We had protestors outside the local ABC affiliate here, which is good. How much more taxes will he have to put on us? I think he’s an idiot who has no idea what he’s doing. If government run health care worked, we wouldn’t have so many coming from other nations with government run health care to get surgeries, procedures and medicines here. Our system works. Let capitalism work it out. Get rid of the pre-existing condition clause. Make the plan portable, like your 401k plan is.

Mark says:

Obama has already made deal with some of the bigger Drug Companies to help subsidize part of the plan. They are in effect subsidizing their own demise.
But this is part of Socialized Medicine. Doctors too will be hit on to cap their salaries, but of course there is no cap on Malpractice Insurance. Some doctors are now paying between 250-500 thousands dollars per year to cover their butt. Of course Trial lawyers are not exempted from this lousy bill they can sue til the cows come home.
With the drug companies now in bed with obama, Chemo thearapy will almost be a thing of the past. In canada, 25% more people die from Colon cancer than in the United States. The patient is either told to wait for your treatment or if too old to take a hike go over into a corner and die, ‘we can’t afford to treat you’. And some bureaucrat will handle the paper work and your heaalth will depend on what kind of mood this brainless bastard in.
High tech drugs will now be a thing of the past, they cost too much. Don’t count on new machines either they too are out of the question. This really is an Oxymoron, when you consider how much effort the democrats put into getting Stem through Fetal Cell research going, those drugs and research will never see the light of day. So regardless had the people waiting for a cure from stem cell research will never see anything close.
The worst part of it all, there will be no incentive for bright young kids to go into medicine, when you consider the training involved, 4 years Pre-Med, then 3 year Intership, 2 years Residency then a specialty if wanted, all for maybe 80 thousand a year. Hell, he can make that with overtime on an assembly line at Government Motors.
In Canada this has caused a shortage of Good Doctors and in general a dumbing down of the profession.
This is insane.

pontiff alex says:

The INSANITY of this is overwhelming. Mr.Fauxbama President of ACORN please: GTFO my life, and take your B.S. with you. If this passes, along with the “Cap and Tax” NIGHTMARE,and the stifling of our Military Might, I will quote Jim Morrison and the Doors: “THIS IS THE EEEEEENNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDD!”

TomR says:

obama smiled and promised all Americans would have the same health care he does. BULLSHIT! He gets the best in the world at Bethesda. There is even an ambulance standing by at the White House 24/7 in case he cuts his finger.
In one fell swoop obama and the socialist Democrats are going to ruin the best health care system in the world.

Jack says:

I have tribe members on SSI and medicare, I have private insurance that while not all that great I’m essentially happy with, in lieu of that I have VA. VA doesn’t protect my better half an n\her needs. It’s mandatory to make a decision to join Medicare at 65, what does this do to those ready to join and those already on Medicare? This threatens all of the above.
When I compare my access, my benefits and choices with theirs. I find medicare is so great that they need supplementary insurance to cover ‘medigap’, why is that? They too get a rationed care and no choice of physician, just the one assigned their case.
SSI, covers nearly everything under the Sun – once, after that they get rationed care, being bounced from one doctor to another. Got a fart crossways? Better wait until the next available window of care. Of course like now if all else fails hit the Emergency room. The only difference between them and I hitting the ER is I get to pay the $100 co-pay, then 20% to 40% of medications and physician’s fees, did I mention that with that ER visit I get to cover their admission and care fees also.
BOHICA!!!

Wild Thing says:

Lynn, I agree, the system we have now works.
I am sorry there are people that have no
insurance, I went through some years as a
model I had none. But I still did not
want our government to pay for it. I just
had to find one I could afford and sign
up. Back then it was not a great one, but
it was something and something I could
afford at the time.

Wild Thing says:

Mark, thanks for the information.
I wish they would put this kind of thing
in the newspapers for people that don’t
use computers and think this monster bill
from Obama is wonderful. They need to
know about drug companies too.

Wild Thing says:

Alex, huge DITTO!!!!

Wild Thing says:

Tom, your so right.
And because of Kennedy’s stuff in the bill
he wrote in it that none of the politicians
will be held to this health care bill, only
we the people. sheesh

Wild Thing says:

Jack, thank you so mcuh for all of that.
I appreciate it.
