Card Check – United Auto Workers Try to Unionize Indiana Plant

Wild Thing’s comment…….
Obama supports the bill. An original co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act, Obama urged his Senate colleagues to pass the bill during a 2007 motion to proceed:

“I support this bill because in order to restore a sense of shared prosperity and security, we need to help working Americans exercise their right to organize under a fair and free process and bargain for their fair share of the wealth our country creates.”

“I will make it the law of the land when I’m President of the United States”, he told a labor federation meeting in April, 2008. While Obama didn’t talk about this issue much before general audiences, it was his main promise when he spoke to unions

Mark says:

By the time obama’s the country will be so far to the left there will be no turning back. When are people going to wake up.

TomR says:

This reminds me of when my place of employment 40 years ago became unionized. Those of us who refused to join became bullied by others. Men who had been friendly a month before suddenly became hateful. They were resentful of me because I had negotiated my own deals with management. I said screw it and rejoined the Army.

Mark says:

The first job I had was at the Steel Mill. They had the UAW, because we did alot of work for Generous Motors(GM). One year they voted for a strike. We were out for 6 months, the deal was finally settled for a Nickle. We lost 6 months of wages for a friggin Nickle. These morons thought they had really put one over on management, They got a whole nickle, they didn’t think how long it would take to get back the money lost. Idiots.

Bob A says:

When I first started with New York telephone, I was union. We had in upstate a hot meal allowance during the cold months. The company would pay for a hot meal in a restaurant/diner if you more than a certain distance from a heated company lunchroom. Shortly thereafter there was a strike of probably 9-10 months, don’t remember. Because downstate controlled the vote we lost the meal allowance for $1.00 a week for those members at top pay. Those still in progression got nothing. What a bargain.
I went into management as a construction supervisor and left in 1991

Wild Thing says:

Mark, your so right, when those that are
not interested now, they will be the ones
saying what happened, when did we lose our
freedoms.

Wild Thing says:

Tom, thank you so much for sharing about
your experiences with Unions. That is so
bad!
I remember my dad telling me how the
people that worked for him fought back
hard not to habe the union come in. They
loved the working conditions, pay and
treatment they had from my dad and did
not want to change anything. But those
union thugs they went after people and
also their faimiles. It was so horrible.

Wild Thing says:

Mark, amazing, all those months and for
so little. I hate how if a person does
not want to go along with a strike they
are forced to, that is wrong too.

Wild Thing says:

Bob A., we always hear so much about those
pro union. They should make it more known
the other side like what you, Mark and Tom
have shared about.

Avitar says:

“in order to restore a sense of shared prosperity and security”
Duh? At the begining of the 1950s more that 35% of all private sector jobs in the United States had been Unionized during the twenty years of Roosevelt/Truman. Now less than 9% are. So what happened to all of those Union jobs? I give you a hint, there weren’t any decertification elections.
The Unions ran the companies out of business. There is no shared security or prosperity with a Union.
