Russia to Obama: Normalize Iran ties

Russia says it is in contact with the Obama administration in a bid to convince it to normalize ties with Iran and solve the nuclear issue.

Moscow hopes that “the new administration understands that there is no alternative to the political process and dialogue at all levels,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Bloomberg on Wednesday.

He said US President-elect Barack Obama would have to normalize ties with Iran to reach a solution to the nuclear dispute.

“We are doing it bypassing the Bush administration and reach Obama’s team] through our embassy in Washington D.C. and our contacts with people who are around Barack Obama,” Ryabkov added.

The Russian official stated that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s letter to Obama was a sign of Iran’s intentions that could open a new chapter in Tehran-Washington relations.
Russia has repeatedly voiced support for a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear issue.

Russia Has Contacted Obama Aides to Pursue Iran Nuclear Deal
Bypassing the outgoing Bush administration, Russian officials have approached aides to Obama, 47. The president- elect takes office Jan. 20. “We are doing it through our embassy in Washington D.C. and our contacts with people who are around Barack Obama,” said Ryabkov.
The Bush administration refused to hold high-level talks with Iranian leaders until they agree to suspend uranium enrichment.
A letter of congratulations from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Obama was a “welcome sign” of Iran’s intentions to turn a new page in its relations with the U.S, Ryabkov said.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
Russiai sure loves to stirring the pot.
Medvedev also announced in a speech in Lima, Peru, that the Obama administration may renounce the US Missile Defense.
Article HERE…..Medvedev Sees Possible Compromise With Obama on Missile Defense
I guess we didn’t know we actually elected Medvedev as US president — I doubt Obama will stand up to him.
There is an excellent analysis by John Bolton:

“If President-elect Obama carries through on where I think his real instincts lie on missile defense, which is not to continue it, I think in Moscow they will read that as responding to the threat and indeed the intimidation reflected in Medvedev’s speeches. “

Foreign Policy Challenges for the New Administration by John Bolton November 24, 2008

Lynn says:

Why would we want Russia calling the shots? Who cares what they say or tell us to do? We’re not them and they ain’t us. They have no rights dictating terms to us. But Obamammy being the stupid dark one will follow along because he’s a good little comrade and Iran will do something dastardly and that will be the end of Obamammy. There are already people out here who don’t like this cruel man who acts like Commodus and thinks he’s God. He’s on thin ice, so he needs to tread carefully.

TomR says:

I hope reality slaps Obama in the face early in his administration and moves him more center of far left. His utopian ideas won’t fly in the real world. In the meantime he should not be playing President.
I also hope there is a place for John Bolton. He would make an excellent candidate for conservatives in 2012. Maybe a Bolton/Palin ticket. I put it in that order only because of the much more foreign policy experience he has than Sarah. I would be just as happy with a Palin/Bolton ticket.(If there is an America left in 2012)

Les says:

So much for having one President and administration at a time. Moscow has nothing to worry about as what they propose is exactly the appeasement foreign policy of Obama and his foreign policy advisors.

Jack says:

Normalize ties with Iran? These are the SOB’s that declared war on the United States in 1979, soon it will have been 30 years and Medvedev want’s Obama to capitulate. What about the Russian buildup in the Caribbean for Hugo Chavez? Will Obama ignore the fact that Russia is supplying nuclear material and aid to Iran and Syria, arms and munitions to Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinians at the same time as Venezuela? Barak needs to reach back and with a twisting motion pull his head out of his Communist ass!!!

Mark says:

Now Moskow is giving obama orders, Great!. They are trying to see how fast they can make him blink.

jim warren says:

After reading Bolton’s thoughts, then thinking about the Obama/Clinton foreign policy team, well…maybe it’s time to take a page from the past and build a bomb shelter in the back yard. TomR, I agree. I would love to see John Bolton on the ticket.

Wild Thing says:

Lynn, I agree, Russia has a lot of nerve, maybe they think or can see how Obama is not going to be a strong leader against the bad things only a strong leader back home here to take our freedoms away. waaaaaaaaa

Wild Thing says:

Tom, I would LOVE for Bolton to run and become President. OH I would be soo happy. It would make my heart not worry so much and my tummy not feel so sick at what is happening to our beloved country, besides everything else he is just awesome.

Wild Thing says:

Les, yes this could get confusing, especially if we get attacked here at home before Jan 20th.

Wild Thing says:

Jack, LOL I LOVE how you put this. DITTO!
“Barak needs to reach back and with a twisting motion pull his head out of his Communist ass!!!”

Wild Thing says:

Mark, yes, this is nuts. This takes a lot of nerve, well it would if we had a real live macho conservative that was going to be President and the Russian’s tried this kind of thing.
Obama as he sits sipping his latte listening to his iPod looking at himself in the mirror only wonders if his shave might have been too close this morning.
Help us all!!!!

Wild Thing says:

Jim, I remember those, and the drills at school to. I was born in 1947 and they were doing that stuff when I was in gradeschool.
