Today I will be joining a bunch of good folks who are having a cookout for the present day wounded warriors of the 173rd at Walter Reed. Their “older” brothers would be so proud of these guys. They have definitely carried on the spirit and courage of the 173rd. In fact, they received the most medals of any in Afghanistan.

TankerBabe has been one helluva of a supporter for these guys, as well as so many others. (who do not get any recognition, nor do they expect it, but they make me so proud that I have to give them a shout out)
The 173rd Airborne is a proud unit with a proud record in Vietnam. Today they are bearing the brunt of the war in Afghanistan. Pray for “The Herd” and all our troops past and present.
Thanks for remembering Chrissie, I had been in BCT for exactly one month when this happened, too green to understand the significance, heck I didn’t even know where the place was. Some mysterious place still called Indochina. One can only imagine the shock to the 173rd at the massive loss of life. They are the best of the best and carry on the brave tradition today. I can only relate to the events May 10 – May 20, 1969, where U.S. losses during that ten-day battle totaled 56 dead for the U.S. Army’s 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Division’s ‘Screaming Eagles’on Ap Bia Mountain. Casualties at that time were very heavy for our side from all areas of the theater and GR was overwhelmed for a few days. That event impacted me personally, I think about them and our current troops everyday. The nation still doesn’t recognize the sacrifices they make, only those with family that have served or are serving understand. Pray for their safe return.
Well said, Jack. Many things like this happened over there and have never been reported and no credit is ever given. But the press is the first to point out what the NVA did though.
Yankeemom, oh wow I love it, thank you so much for sharing about what you are going to do. Thank you too for the link Yankeemom.
This makes me sooooo happy to hear about this.
Mark, yes, the press would get a rash from head to toe or worse if they had to show real authentic appreciation. They miss out with the joy that comes with being grateful to our troops and Veterans. The feeling of we know you to thank and are able to do so, it feels so good.
