“Barack Obama on Chicago Public Radio WBEZ-FM, 2001: The Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society… and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that”..

TRANSCRIPT:
MODERATOR: Good morning and welcome to Odyssey on WBEZ Chicago 91.5 FM and we’re joined by Barack Obama who is Illinois State Senator from the 13th district and senior lecturer in the law school at the University of Chicago.
OBAMA: If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples. So that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it I’d be okay.
But the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And to that extent as radical as people tried to characterize the Warren court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as it’s been interpreted, and the Warren court interpreted it in the same way that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can’t do to you, it says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf. And that hasn’t shifted. One of the I think tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court focused, I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributed change and in some ways we still suffer from that.
MODERATOR: Let’s talk with Karen. Good morning, Karen, you’re on Chicago Public Radio.
KAREN: Hi. The gentleman made the point that the Warren court wasn’t terribly radical with economic changes. My question is, is it too late for that kind of reparative work economically and is that that the appropriate place for reparative economic work to take place – the court – or would it be legislation at this point?
OBAMA: Maybe I’m showing my bias here as a legislator as well as a law professor, but I’m not optimistic about bringing about major redistributive change through the courts. The institution just isn’t structured that way.
You just look at very rare examples during the desegregation era the court was willing to for example order changes that cost money to a local school district. The court was very uncomfortable with it. It was very hard to manage, it was hard to figure out. You start getting into all sorts of separation of powers issues in terms of the court monitoring or engaging in a process that essentially is administrative and takes a lot of time.
The court’s just not very good at it and politically it’s very hard to legitimize opinions from the court in that regard. So I think that although you can craft theoretical justifications for it legally. Any three of us sitting here could come up with a rational for bringing about economic change through the courts.
Wild Thing’s comment……….
This is nothing less then HUGE!!! It shoots down how Obama has said this is not what he is talking about, he can’t deny it when he has actually said the very words. He wants to rip our Constitution to shreds! This man cannot become President of the United States of America!!! God help us if he does!
It is also a great video to forward and send to anyone you know that is a fence sitter, a doubter of what kind of nightmare Obama will be, or anyone that needs the truth to be told to them. I emailed it to a lot of people in the media and others that might have missed seeing it.
Obama’s “religion” of 20 years, Black Liberation Theology, is Marxist. Goals are empowerment and reparations (spreading the wealth).
Over the past 5 decades, the Democrats have created the Entitlement Generation though class envy and warfare. This generation now numbers in the millions are are ready to follow the Democrats like lambs to the slaughter. They’ve been fed, clothed, and housed by social welfare programs and don’t know how to take care of themselves. They will wholeheartedly support Obama’s redistribution of wealth because they’ve been made to believe it’s the fault of the wealthy for the situation they’re in. They cannot comprehend that they’ve been held in Economic Slavery by Democrat Party.
Ah, wealth redistribution. Yes, the economic motor of great places like Cuba and North Korea.
Obama is Marxist through and through. He wants to make us all equal, some more than others(the Party elite). In this audio he thinks wealth redistribution can be done legislatively, but if he can pick two or three SCOTUS, then he can back it up via the courts.
Like BobF states, Obama has his supporters. The army of entitlement receipiants. Some of these are now 4th generation.
Remember the Communist Iron Curtain Warsaw Pact countries from 1945-1991? In an Obamanation….they’re baaaaaack! CCCP II and “Back in the USSR”….eh? TO THE STATE!
Vodka power comrades, da?
‘he can’t deny it’ — but he can and does deny the truth every day, every time he makes a compain speach. A left wing democrate can not win an election in any thing but a big city economic desaster area with out lying. And they do lie, a lot, much more than conservatives (notice I did not say republicans).
BobF, that’s true,I guess they don’t listen when Obama tells them or was it his wife, that said they will have to do things they don’t like and then mentions work. hahaa
Tom,very scary, I hate top think how awful the Judges will be that he would pick.
Darth, waaaa I don’t want that. boo hiss Obama.
Odin, yes I did notice and I agree. The party within the party is how it feels to be a Conservative.
Good point Odin.
I’ve given up on trying to understand the mentality of the increasingly stupidity of the American public as measured by the number of Obama Kool Aid drinkers that already have or will vote for him on Nov. 4th. There is nothing that this AARP (Affirmative Action Racist Person) candidate can say or do that will wake them up from their cult mantra trance of “Change”, “Change”, “Change”.
We seem doomed to the fate of those Constitution destroying changes that will include granting amnesty with a path to citizenship and voting rights to over 12 million illegal aliens, giving voting rights to felons, appointing “legislative” judges to the federal bench, and the redistribution of wealth. Karl Marx, Friedrich Engles, and Vladimir Lenin must be proud of their African-American and black liberation theology practicing disciple – Barack Hussein Obama.

Les, yes it really doesn’t matter to the Obama followers even the left media have tried to ignore this.
But if they gave a hoot about our country and our Constitution, this should be huge news, political career ending kind of news.
I have had it with the left.
Thanks for the images.
