Obama says John McCain rally in Iowa marked by partisan prayer
LA Times
Rev. Arnold Conrad, in delivering an invocation at a rally today for John McCain in Davenport, Iowa, apparently didn’t get the word from the candidate about elevating the tone at such gatherings.
Conrad, who appeared before the crowd before McCain had arrived, offered a prayer that seemed to urge divine intervention to prevent Barack Obama from winning the presidential election — and cast the outcome as a referendum on differing religions.
The Times’ Maeve Reston was at the event, and she passed along the key passage from Conrad’s words:
“I would also pray Lord that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their God — whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah — that his [McCain’s] opponent wins for a variety of reasons.
And Lord I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you would step forward and honor your own name in all that happens between now and Election Day.
Oh Lord, we just commit this time to you, move among us, make your presence very well felt as we are gathered here today in Jesus’s name I pray. “
The crowd greeted the prayer with applause.
Wild Thing’s comment……….
The latest complaint by Obama’s camp against the McCain campaign is that we are waging “partisan” prayer. How horrible of our side to do such a think…….as………Partisan prayer!!!!!!!!
I would not have made the same prayer as this Rev. Conrad with the Allah bit in there etc. hahaha But by golly if it offends Obama to find out about a prayer at the rally then so be it , it works for me. LOL
Conrad, who appeared before the crowd before McCain had arrived, offered a prayer that seemed to urge divine intervention to prevent Barack Obama from winning the presidential election…
I have been praying the same thing.
Why I thoguht Obama was supposed to be a Christian according to him, well there was that one time on This Week the Sunday morning show where he messed up OR was it the truth and he said he was a Muslim.
LOL
What in the heck is next, is Obama going to say we can’t cheer at a rally, or better yet he probably wiill have no rallies allowed at all for his opponent McCain. Obama sure is trying to take control of the McCain/Palin campaign.
He better know if he , Obama wins, there is a traditional President Prayer breakfast and not the kind of place for a Rev. Wright either.
The article does not tell about this from the rally as well……..
When McCain came to hug her ( Sarah Palin ) … he immdiately shook my hand and following his moment with her, I shook his hand as he grabbed my hand, now for the second time, and I said, “God wants you to know that I’m praying for you, Sir!” He thanked me and kept smiling. I repeated that phrase to him five times. He grabbed my hands and looked right into my eyes and said, “I won’t make it without prayer. Sir, Thank You for praying for me, and don’t let one day go by that you don’t pray for me. I need all the prayers that I can get. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!”
General Patton’s Prayer!
Many know the story of General Patton’s prayer for better weather in order to more efficiently kill the Germans in the winter of 1944. Few know of his Christmas Greeting that was issued along with the prayer.
Contrary to popular belief, the prayer was not ordered to be written during the Battle of the Bulge. It was on the 14th of December that General Patton had the famous exchange with Chaplain O’Neill to write a prayer for good weather and to give a copy to each member of the Third Army. The Chaplain mentioned that it’s not a customary practice to pray for clear weather in order to kill fellow men.
Patton’s response was direct, “Chaplain, are you teaching me theology or are you the Chaplain of the Third Army? I want a prayer.”
After working out the logistics, each member of the Third Army (approximately 250,000 at the time) was issued a small card on the 22nd of December, 1944. By this time, the Battle of the Bulge was underway.
On one side of the card was the famous prayer:
Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations.
When Patton originally ordered the cards made, some of the General’s men convinced him to include a Christmas greeting for the troops. On the reverse side, the card had a personal message from the General:
To each officer and soldier in the Third United States Army, I wish a Merry Christmas. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. May God’s blessing rest upon each of you on this Christmas Day.
G. S. Patton, Jr.
Lieutenant General
So what how he prays with his congregation? It’s his church.
Obamanation is just mad because he prayed for McCain, not him.
Goodness sakes, Obamanation is just so full of himself, isn’t he?
Obama wants us all to answer to five daily calls to prayer on our portable prayer rugs.
I was going to take Sunday off but this seems to need a comment. For sixty-four years I have belonged to the Southern Baptist Convention churches and have studied religious freedom for all that time. It is now time for all Christian preachers to tell the government to go to hell and start preaching (and praying) up to their calling. The churches should abandon their tax-exempt status which makes them slaves to the government. If Christians would do it then Muslims and others would be shamed. Quit taking money from the government if you want to save the country, churches.
Horace, thank you for the courage to say it,”The churches should abandon their tax-exempt status which makes them slaves to the government.” “Quit taking money from the government if you want to save the country, churches.”
Why should anyone have to forfeit their civil rights in lieu of a government stipend or a government sanction? Welfare recipients are wards of the state, they take funds from state and federal coffers and their political choices are not restricted by their opinions, yet they campaign and they vote with impunity.
I consider myself a Christian, albeit a piss poor one, as a soldier I attended services by the chaplain under all denominations except Islam, That the service was Catholic, Protestant or even Jewish was irrelevant when at any moment you could suddenly meet your maker. Not a soul attending thought that the chaplain was being ‘partisan’, all of us appreciated their presence in our time of need.
Seems to me that Obama has spent over 20 years pretending to be a Christian and has no horse in that race.
It’s the strings attached to government aid regardless of the source. One of the happiest days of my life was the day my GI Bill kicked in, 127 days after I was totally broke and committed to school, the other was the day I graduated and cut those restrictive government tethers that dictated where, when and on what I could spent that ludicrous stipend. Not that I’m ungrateful but I’d rather Uncle Sam owe me the balance of the GI Bill than ever be delayed, deferred or hamstrung by them again.
Those strings are there in everything the government does, with a single exception 535 members of Congress get a pass.
Lynn he sure is.LOL It is almost like a horrible bad joke, this Obama person. He demands, people cowar, he whines, people give in. hahaha he is like some kind of a temper tantrum how is it spelled Krucheave that was the Russian leader when he banged his shoe on the podium.
hahahahaa
Tom, Hahhaha he is going to rot before we will give in. hahaa I was just thinking it would be something to send him a prayer rug and it could have his whole name sown on it….Barack Hussein Obama from MCCain/Palin supporters
hahahahahahaa
Horace that is so good, I agree with you. I have gone to the Baptist church most of my life not on a regular basis but wow Horace what a great idea.
I agree they need to be able to pray and speak like you said without government control over them.
Jack, I agree, they have had to give up their rights of free speech as a minister and a church.
Thanks for sharing too.
