Palin set to drop puck at Philadelphia NHL game
Lebanon, PA news
Sarah Palin’s next faceoff will come at center ice at an NHL arena, not at a debate. The GOP vice presidential nominee will drop the ceremonial first puck when the Philadelphia Flyers open the regular season against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Palin, the Alaska governor and self-described “hockey mom,” will join the winner of a team promotion for the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” to drop the puck.
Last month, Palin visited a Philadelphia bar with Flyers owner Ed Snider, who has donated money to Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s campaign.
“Because of the tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited the most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started,” Snider said in a team statement Wednesday. “We are very excited she has accepted our offer and we are very proud of the publicity she is generating for hockey moms and the sport of hockey.”
The team will award all hockey moms entered into the contest with a free “puck-er peach” lipstick and four tickets to a hockey game of the Flyers’ minor league affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. The winner will appear on the ice with Palin for opening faceoff.
Saturday’s game starts at 7 p.m. at the Wachovia Center
Go Lightening!
Wild Thing’s comment………
Oh my gosh I LOVE hockey!! My Dad used to take me to hockey games a lot in Chicago when I was a little girl. It is such an exciting game. When Nicholas and I moved to Florida from Calif. I wacthed the Lightening games on TV.
This is great. I’m sure Biden will be green with envy since he was born in Pa.
Ed Snider voted for Ronald Reagan and from the various things I have read about him he hates communists. haha therefore I guess Obama is not invited. heh heh.
Thank you Darth for telling me about this in your comment.
The Flyers Secret Weapon 1974
Yesssssss! God Bless America!
Being from Buffalo, have always been a Sabres fan and remember the ‘Broad Street Bullies ‘ well, especially ‘Dave the Hammer Schutz’, most penalty minutes in two years. Then he came to Bufflao for a few years and learned how to skate.
Afterall The Sabres were known as Montreal South, aka the French Connection, ‘Martin, Perreaut, Robert.’
But Kate Smith was tops and for sure the Flyers secret weapon.
But the best hockey is not in the NHL, the minors have it. Then, 1971, in the NHL, you couldn’t watch a game without a bench clearing brawl. In the minors that doesn’t happen or very sledom and they are penalized for it. Our area had the Rochester Amerks, it is all about fast skating and strategy. But of course they are all trying to get into the big time.
Kate Smith, Wow!!! That kinda dates some of us now doesn’t it? Back to a time when most Americans were Americans.
“It aint over till the fat lady sings”
Kate Smith was a large woman who was very popular as a singer in the 1930s to 1950s. (“God Bless America” is an American patriotic song originally written by Irving Berlin in 1918 and revised by him in 1938 for Kate Smith); in the 1950s, Kate had her own TV show, which ended right before the station went off the air for the night – thus, the TV broadcast day was not over until this particular fat lady sang her closing song, “God Bless America”. Nobody sings it like she does.
Give ’em hell Sarah.
Go Sarah Go!!! America First !!!
Mark, thank you so much for sharing about that. That is something about the minors like you said. Really interesting.
Jack, yes Kate Smith is one of the oldiers. I used to get goosebumps when she sang this song when I was a little girl.
I miss old Chicago Stadium…Bobby Hull and Tony Esposito and hearing that massive organ play WT!
