Anyone who has subsisted on ‘C’ rats, Lurps or the old ‘K’ rats appreciates a good cook. The stuff this cook was preparing sure differs from ‘the good old days’. Some of the vittles sound familiar, cream gravy with pork patty crumbles, AKA SOS. Getting food and water to the troops is critical to their health and morale. Like the rest of the soldiers the cooks are basic riflemen too. Thanks WT, it takes every link in the chain.
Back at home station, in the states, you don’t appreciate the cooks, clerks, etc but on a deployment they’re worth their weight in gold. It’s during deployments and out in the field that you realize without these folks, you’re dead in the water.
I so admire a man who cooks!
My Dad told of all the goat he ate in WW2 – he could never eat lamb again back at home. But he really appreciated a cook that cared!

Oh yeah, Keep 5 yards.
That was a fun story, as long as I don’t have to pull KP. Most of the meals I had in Army mess halls were good, especally those breakfasts.

Jack thanks for sharing about that. I was thinking about that when I saw this story, how much a real mean means verses the C-rations.
Mark, amen!
Tom, Nick said that too. His favorite was always breakfast.
Bob thanks for sharing about it.

Yankeemom, hahaha I can see why. I bet even the thought of having it again was like no way. hahaha
Thanks for sharing about your Dad Yankeemom.
