President Bush Signs Secure Fence Act

President Bush Signs Secure Fence Act
The Roosevelt Room
The White House
President George W. Bush signs H.R. 6061, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, in the Roosevelt Room Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006.

“Thank you all. Thanks. Please be seated. I’m pleased that you all are here to witness the signature of the Secure Fence Act of 2006. This bill will help protect the American people. This bill will make our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform.”

“I appreciate the Vice President joining us today. I thank the Deputy Secretary, Michael Jackson, of the Department of Homeland Security. Rob Portman — he happens to be the Director of OMB. I want to thank Ralph Basham, who is the Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. David Aguilar is the Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol.
I appreciate the fact that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has joined us, as well as House Majority Leader John Boehner. I appreciate them coming in from their respective states as I sign this piece of legislation. I want to thank Congressman Peter King, who’s the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee in the House of Representatives. I appreciate you being here, Peter.
Ours is a nation of immigrants. We’re also a nation of law. Unfortunately, the United States has not been in complete control of its borders for decades and, therefore, illegal immigration has been on the rise. We have a responsibility to address these challenges. We have a responsibility to enforce our laws. We have a responsibility to secure our borders. We take this responsibility seriously.”

Wild Thing’s commment………
His complete speech HERE if you care to read it. Too bad it took this long for him to get around to doing this. Too bad because even though this is a good thing, the disappointment of what HE has put this nation through in taking this long is unforgivable and I will NOT forget.

“Ours is a nation of immigrants.

Demonstrably untrue.

We’re also a nation of law.

Also demonstrably untrue.

Unfortunately, the United States has not been in complete control of its borders for decades and, therefore, illegal immigration has been on the rise.

Finally a true statement.

We have a responsibility to address these challenges.

So do it.

We have a responsibility to enforce our laws.

So do it.

We have a responsibility to secure our borders.

So do it.

We take this responsibility seriously.

Demonstrably untrue.
So few sentences. So much bullsh**.

Lynn says:

What in the heck is wrong with us?
Why do we keep electing people who have nothing in common with what America needs?
That mighty big paycheck is nice and the lifelong salary after retirement, but gee whiz, not everybody gets that and we don’t want to go for a stroll in the park at twilight with these elected officials anymore.
Time for fresh blood to liven up the place.

Mark Krauss says:

Note that they only signed this AFTER they saw all the uproar over their amnesty attempt. now let’s see if they actually BUILD the thing..

Mark says:

Does this mean they are really going to build that fence NOW ! From what I read they have a whopping 2 percent of it finished … guess thats progress if you were trying to stall something this would be the way to go about it.
The good news is Paris Hilton is now going to serve her full 45 days. Now if she was an Illegal she would still be out.

Les says:

Unfortunately, voters (the only ones who actually elect people) are so gullible that they believe that Congress passing a bill has anything to do with something actually happening. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, still the law of the land, is not being enforced. The Secure Fence Act of 2006 was just a pre November 2006 election ploy to win voters with no intent to actually build the fence.
Congress and the President hoped to make it null and void with their comprehensive immigration and “amnesty” bill of 2007.
Where is the accountability? Where’s the beef? Voters should force all presidential candidates to explain in excruciating detail why each section of the Immigration and Control Act of 1986 isn’t being enforced. The same for the Secure Fence Act of 2006.

Wild Thing says:

Lynn, you hit the nail on the head……
“Why do we keep electing people who have nothing in common with what America needs?”…..
America needs strong men now more then ever. Men that can take a stand for America, for our laws and against anything that will weaken us as a Nation.

Wild Thing says:

Mark Krauss…..you are right let’s see how long it takes now for the fence to be built. They should start to work on it again right now today and show us too how they are doing. Proof that they are building it.

Wild Thing says:

Mark…LMAO love your comment. heh heh

TomR says:

“Bush Lied, Border Patrol cried”.

darthcrUSAderworldtour07 says:

WT & Krauss ( great last name ) – The reason the FENCE hasn’t been fully constructed is because the cheap labor in the southwest is still picking lettuce? Cabbage?? Cotton??? I’ll take a month off from work to help mix the cement!

Wild Thing says:

Les yes they should.

Wild Thing says:

Tom, that would be a great title. Thank you.

Wild Thing says:

Darth, good point. haha OH gosh this is so maddening.

Lynn says:

We need the founding fathers again–men who will stop at nothing to protect this beautiful lady.
I think we need a Sam Houston or an Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys and their ilk to grace our white house. Time for the monkeys to stop tossing their shit around the white house!
We once believed in a Bright Shining City on the Hill–make us believe it again!
That’s what I’m looking for.

BobF says:

“Ours is a nation of immigrants”.
No it isn’t. I’m an American. My parents are Americans. My grandparents are Immigrants who became American Citizens. I’m fed up with this notion that this is a nation of Immigrants. They keep feeding us that crap and we take it by the shovelful. Their has to come a time when we are our own nation and people.
