UN criticizes Saddam Hussein’s death penalty
JPost.com
The UN on Sunday criticized the decision to sentence Saddam Hussein to death, calling upon local authorities to refuse the to hang the ex-leader.
UN Human Rights Commission head Louise Arbour said that the “appeal process is reliable and a vital part of the fair judicial procedure.” Army Radio reported. She said that “the results of the appeal will what they will be,” and Arbour expressed hope that the Iraqi government would suspend its death sentence.
Wild Thing’s comment……
Kofi and his gang, grew rich from the corruption of Iraq’s oil for food program. Naturally, they do not want to see their benefactor and business partner swing at the end of a rope.
No, they just want to continue the trial until it looks a bit more fair.
It wasn’t a fair trial. It happens that in this case, he was clearly guilty as hell, yes – but just because the trial happens to be biased in the ‘correct’ direction doesn’t make it fair :> An appeal process would go a little way towards token fairness. Not a chance of changing the outcome, of course… Saddam is going down, its just a question of when.
There is a fundamental flaw in the thinking of most of the world in that they believe that the only entity that can conduct a fair trial is the United Nations. Perhaps it is so for those who have forfeited their national sovereignty to the UN, but for those countries who have the fortitude to exercise their national sovereignty they place their trust in their internal justice systems.
The Iraqi judge even had the guts to kick Ramsey Clark out of their court room. Iraq is one of those countries that has emerged from a totalitarian regime into a sovereign country and has exercised it’s sovereignty by trying and finding guilty one of the worlds worst despots and wholesale murderers. For any other nation to dispute the fairness of the trial is wrong, they could have and should have executed this beast at his capture, instead they showed remarkable restraint, tolerance and respect for the rule of law in society. They tried him under Iraqi law in an Iraqi court and the found him guilty, the only problem is the UN is criticizing the death sentence which in this case is appropriate and needs to be carried out. Barbaric!!! No, the death of Mussolini was barbaric, carried out by civilized Europeans. The same European communities that spawned Hitler who today condemn the the death sentence of Saddam Hussein. Let justice be carried out.
Jack yesssss, I agree let justice be carried out.
Great post, Jack.
And, Suricou, explain why it wasn’t “fair”.
The UN’s official policy on capital punishment, anywhere for any reason, is simply that it should be outlawed as a matter of International Law.
Therefore, your remark is simply untrue, and afflicted with the prejudice that the UN should decide what is “fair”. The UN’s record in most affairs, is so despicable as to render it useless as a moral expositor at any level. You should know this, and perhaps you do and don’t care.
The UN *snicker* thinks that *hehheh* Saddam got the bums *hahaha* rush? *bwaahahaha*
Sorry. *more snickering*
I’m tryin’ my best to take them seriously. Just ain’t workin’. bwahahahahahaha
