May 2006: On Monday, the Toronto Sun reported the theft of hundreds of stolen Afghan passports, noting that they can be used by terrorists to attempt entry into Canada and the U.S. According to published media reports, the blank passports and official Afghan seals were stolen from the Afghan embassy in Belgium on Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Police are concerned the blank documents can be modified by terrorists to pose as refugees, board flights to Canada and sneak into the U.S.
Security officials at U.S. border crossing checkpoints are advised to be on alert for the immediate use of these documents.
