'Ripped Apart By His Own Government': Wife of Charged Military Hero Defends Husband

Soldier charged for killing suspected Taliban bomb maker.

The wife of a former Green Beret facing a murder charge in the killing of a suspected Taliban bomb maker defended her husband Sunday on Fox & Friends.

Maj. Matthew Golsteyn told Fox News two years ago that he killed the suspected bomb maker during combat operations in Afghanistan.

His wife, Julie, said Sunday that her husband has been "ripped apart by his own government."

"It is extremely disappointing and absolutely reprehensible what they have done to him," she said. "For them to charge him with premeditated murder is almost laughable, and it would be laughable if it wasn't so serious and disgusting."

In a statement, Army Special Operations Command spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer said that there was "sufficient evidence" to warrant the charge against Golsteyn.

Maj. Golsteyn had said in an interview with Bret Baier that after the suspect had been detained, there was a limit as to how long he could be held.

"You realize quickly that you make things worse. It is an inevitable outcome that people who are cooperating with coalition forces, when identified, will suffer some terrible torture or be killed," he said.

Mrs. Golsteyn said Sunday that the charges against her husband are "so disgusting."

"I know him. And to think that he killed someone in cold blood ... is absolutely... I don't even have a word for it," she said.

President Trump tweeted on Sunday that he would be reviewing Maj. Golsteyn's case.

"We are waiting for someone to do the right thing," Julie Golsteyn said. "It is time for someone in Army leadership to crawl out from the blanket of anonymity under which they hide and take responsibility for this."

On Monday morning, Golsteyn's father, Jerry, told "Fox & Friends" he hopes President Trump will look at the case and make a decision.

He said his son is "doing real well" and faulted the "rules of engagement" for his son and other service members facing criminal charges.

Trump International Washington DC Hotel details:

The Old Post Office Pavilion, truly known as the Old Post Office and Clock Tower, situated at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. was finished in 1899, and is a contributing property to the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site.

It was utilized as the city's fundamental mail station until 1914. It worked fundamentally as an office fabricating a short time later, and was almost torn down amid the development of the Federal Triangle complex in the 1920s.

It was about destroyed again in the 1970s to clear a path for finish of the Federal Triangle. Significant remodels happened in 1976 and 1983.

The 1983 remodel included a sustenance court and retail space and the building was renamed the Old Post Office Pavilion. An option was added to the structure in 1991.

In 2013, the U.S. General Services Administration rented the property to the Trump Old Post Office LLC for a long time.

The Trump Organization formed the property into a lavish inn, Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C. which opened in September 2016.

Additional Info: Less than a mile from the White House and set in the Old Post Office (an 1899 Romanesque Revival building), this luxury hotel with a 9-story atrium is a 12-minute walk from the National Mall and the National Gallery of Art. Opulent, Federal-style rooms with high ceilings and marble bathrooms offer free Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffeemakers and 24-hour room service.

Suites add additional living space; some have extra bedrooms and fireplaces.

Freebies include local car service and tours of the building's clock tower. There's a lobby bar, an upscale steakhouse, a fitness center and a spa, plus a ballroom and meeting rooms. Parking is available for a charge.

Not since President Lincoln has another president done more to 'care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan'

The facts are clear: No president has done more in two years to strengthen our military and reform the Department of Veterans Affairs to better serve our nation’s heroes than President Donald Trump.

From pushing the Islamic State terrorist organization to the brink of defeat, to increasing troop strength and modernizing our military’s equipment on the battlefield, Trump sends a strong signal to any country or terrorist group that confronting the United States or our allies is a losing proposition.

Until Trump, no candidate in history had made serving our veterans the centerpiece of a presidential campaign. In office, Trump has kept his promise, improving the lives of America’s veterans through a number of key initiatives that enact more reform across the organization than at any other time in decades.

These impactful reforms include the MISSION Act, which provides real health care choice to eligible veterans, and the Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which makes VA one of the most accountable agencies in the federal government.

Trump has also done more in less than two years to improve transparency for veterans than any of his predecessors. In contrast to every other health system in the nation, VA now posts wait times online for every VA medical center across the country, and it updates them on a weekly basis. The agency is also the first hospital system in the nation to post online its opioid prescription rates, accountability and settlement information, and chief executive travel.

Under Trump, VA is also adopting a joint electronic health record system that aligns with the one used by the Department of Defense. This transition will result in all Defense and VA patient data residing in one common system, better integrating information across components and enabling seamless care as those who fight for our country’s freedoms transition back into civilian life.

Make no mistake: President Trump has kept his promises to keep our country safe, revitalize our military, and reform VA. Not since President Lincoln has another president done more to “care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan,” just as our nation deserves.
