Immigrants ravage U.S. infrastructure
Financial analyst: $1.6 trillion required to repair devastation
wnd
The United States will need $1.6 trillion to repair damage to its infrastructure from a massive influx of immigrants, a new report reveals.
In his report titled, “The Twin Crises: Immigration and Infrastructure,” prominent researcher Edwin S. Rubenstein examines 15 categories of infrastructure:
airports, border security, bridges, dams and levees, electricity (the power grids), hazardous waste removal, hospitals, mass transit, parks and recreation facilities, ports and navigable waterways, public schools, railroads, roads and highways, solid waste and trash, and water and sewer systems.
Rubenstein, a financial analyst and former contributing editor of Forbes and economics editor of National Review, claims the nation is facing a crisis – with immigration responsible for at least 80 percent of spending needed to expand the U.S. infrastructure before the middle of this century.
“If the infrastructure crisis could be fixed by spending money, there would be no crisis,” Mr. Rubenstein explained in a statement. “Since 1987, capital spending on transportation infrastructure has increased by 2.1 percent per year above the inflation rate. At $233 billion (2004 dollars), infrastructure is already one of the largest categories of government spending. Our infrastructure is ‘crumbling’ because population growth has overwhelmed the ability of even these vast sums to expand capacity.”
While immigration policy has been hotly debated for a number of years, Rubenstein writes that its impact on infrastructure is rarely discussed.
Public schools
Some Los Angeles schools are so crowded that they have lengthened the time between classes to give students time to make their way through crowded halls. Los Angeles’ school construction program is so massive that the Army Corps of Engineers was called in to manage it.”
According to the U.S. Department of Education, 18 percent of all schools are considered overcrowded, and 37 percent use trailers and portable structures to accommodate growing student bodies.
Hospitals
Rubenstein cites a recent construction boom among the nation’s hospitals. As many as 60 percent of America’s hospitals are either under construction or have plans for new facilities.
Illegal aliens use emergency rooms more than twice as often as U.S. citizens, and providing their uncompensated care has been the death of many emergency departments.
Water and electricity
“Cities like San Antonio, El Paso, and Phoenix could run out of water in 10 to 20 years,” he writes. San Diego’s water company has resorted to a once-unthinkable option: recycling toilet water for drinking.”
National parks
Illegals wear roads and paths through parks.
“Their fires, trash, and vandalism have despoiled thousands of acres of pristine parkland,” he writes.
According to Rubenstein, illegals leave beer, water and milk bottles, personal hygiene items and medications, clothing and shoes, food and food cans, jewelry, paper trash, sanitary pads, disposable diapers, backpacks, blankets, towels, plastic bags, homemade weapons, disintegrating toilet paper and human feces on U.S. property while they journey into the country.
Border security costs
“While the U.S. builds a fence across much of the border, many illegals are taking a different route. Underground,” Rubenstein reveals. “Authorities have discovered dozens of illegal tunnels across the international border in recent years. Smuggling of drugs, weapons, and immigrants takes place daily through these underground passageways.”
Fiscal burden
Rubenstein cites figures from the U.S. Census Bureau, projecting that the U.S. population will reach 433 million by 2050 – increasing 44 percent, or 135 million, from today’s numbers.

Wild Thing’s comment……..
This article starts off with talking about immigrants, but most of it is about illegals.
I liked the artilce because it broke down the various areas effected and it really covers about every area. This is a topic that should be discussed on the political talk shows on Sunday mornings. Instead of wasting time bashing Bush for 8 years which they spent horendous amounts of time doing, they should have been talking about things like this and how to fix it. How to plan for immigrant growth the legals coming here, and what to do about the border fence not being done as promised.
All of us came here or our families did from somewhere, this country is known for it’s welcome to immigrants. That is not a bad thing, I just worry about the ones coming here that are Muslims and whose intentions are not to be Americans but to change our country to their Islam culture and laws. And then of course the illegals as well .
Like JohnE PFC U.S. Army has said. The pressure from La Raza is much like the black community and how they have pressured citizens to join in their anti-American crimes etc.
….Thank you Mark for sending this to me.

Simply dreadful. I wish there was something we could do about these ingrates. A town nearby where I live is trying to do that. At first, they wanted to make it illegal to have illegals in their town as residents. They could work there, but not live there. That went down in flames, but now, they want to make it where anyone–employers, landlords, the hospital, does a check on the person to make sure they are “legal.” Of course, many are crying discrimination, but how can it be discrimination when illegals have no American rights to begin with? They say they’re part of North America. So is Canada, but you don’t see them running our northern borders, do you? All those illegal Canadians! What are we going to do about them?
I noticed that some ER departments are going to being generic in how they treat patients as well. No one gets the warm fuzzies anymore. It’s cold, it’s sterile and some have become very incompetent in how they treat patients. They come in and ask me how I’m doing in Spanish! Can’t they tell, I’m not spanish?
Sorry, but it’s time for them to go back from where they came from. Mexico and the Central and South American governments are exporting their trash to us. That’s all they are is trash. I don’t mind if someone comes here legally, attempts to assimilate (I would have to if I moved somewhere overseas) and at least tried to make a good life for themselves and their families. Got no problem with that, but when they get uppity and start acting like us natives are the enemy and deserve to be punished, yeah, I got a big problem with that. I may have to call my good friends, Smith and Wesson.
Lynn states it well. I don’t expect anything being done to stem the tide of illegals. Maybe the bad economy will deter some. I do expect that the now solidly Democrat govt. will give illegals more benefits and maybe even free citizenship.
As for the muslim immigrants, that tide should have been stopped 12Sep01.
It’s not immigrants who are causing the problems, it’s illegal aliens. Legal immigration compensates for infrastructure but illegals stealing into the country are destroying the infrastructure. That’s why this country and every other country on the face of the earth have immigration policies. But, it’s only the Unites States that’s expected to trash its policies and allow anyone at anytime to come here.
I was Listening to Glenn Beck yesterday and he was talking about how Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were in their old age and writing letters to each other. He told of how the letters were saying that the American People would stray so far from them, almost to the brink of destruction, but before it could happen We would then turn around and save ourselves and it will be so right it will be “God’s Law”. I hope he is right.
Frau Vader came here from West Germany LEGALLY. What part of the word ‘ILLEGAL’ confuses US?
Mao Tse Tung and Comrade Stalin were right for we will fall from within…
I see it everyday when I read the hometown news, the crime is intolerable and the ‘infrastructure’ is crumbling, what used to be a clean and upwardly progressively growing community now is a sprawling slum. The balance of Agriculture to Industrial jobs are gone, as are all the industrial jobs and most of the agricultural jobs, replaced by government service jobs. 20 years ago there were times you could visit and there were very few people on the street, ask why and the reply was, INS, today they don’t even bother.
Lynn, all you said I agree with. You said it better then I could.
Tom, you right, the bad economy so far is the only thing that is cutting down on border crossings.
Bob F., exactly it is the illegals and what got me was how the article titled itself WRONG and started off wrong like it is immigrants.
JohnE PFC U.S. Army, thanks for osharing that, I hope he is right too. Thanks for osharing that about what was said on Glenn Beck’s show.
I hope they show that mini series again on HBO. It was called ” John Adams” and it was sooooo good.
Darth, yes and I always loved how wrong they were….. till now. Over the last how ever many years I do see how it does come from within. I think right after Reagan I began to see this happening but I thought our party could stop it in it’s tracks. I sure was wrong. oh so very wrong.
Jack, thank you so much for sharing about that. You are so right, when the left settles in it brings everything down. They cater to the illegals, and some Republicans like McCain do too. I hate calling him that he really needs to leave office. grrrrrrr
Something worth checking out.
